Mccainoops

What we are witnessing right now is what a McCain presidency would be like -- herky jerky, bouncing from crisis to crisis, overreacting at every step.

It's taken him exactly ten days to go from the economy is strong to we're heading into the Great Depression and must stop the campaign.

But nothing has changed other than the polls, and that's why it's impossible to take this gamble seriously.

McCain can see that he cannot win the presidency unless the campaign narrative changes dramatically, so he's decided to roll the dice.

After all his talk of bipartisanship, John McCain has decided to make an intensely political move. He does not have a plan, but he's willing to drag the country through his personal drama, no matter the cost, just so that he might win the presidency.

McCain wants to demonstrate his leadership skills, but instead he's demonstrating beyond any doubt that he is temperamentally unfit to be president.

After this campaign, and all its idiocy, and assuming he is elected (ever larger doubtful), how does McCain expect to actually govern???

But McCain had time to meet with Lady von de ver Rothschild der Elite!
He also found time to do an interview and tell a few lies to Katie Couric.
I thought he had to rush off and save the day in Washington?

Does anyone see the resemblance in McCain trying to postpone the debates and his trying to put off the GOP convention?

Looks like someone is not prepared.

the right wing seems to consist entirely of drama queens. how else do you explain all that "phony outrage" that obama was talking about last week?

TO madozbo - and others - Yes, the President can suspend the elections as far as I know - BUT if you want to read something scary about the power that this President Bush holds - go into (I think it is the National Archives) and many other places

- and read ALL OF THE EXECUTIVE ORDERS THAT HAVE BEEN INSTITUTED SINCE BUSH CAME INTO OFFICE - HE HAS UN-PRECEDENTED POWER TO TAKE OVER EVERYTHING IN THIS COUNTRY, INSTITUTE MARTIAL LAW, CONFISCATE OUR GUNS, CONTROL ALL TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNICATIONS AND IT GOES ON AND ON AND ON -

One of the first things that needs to be done when Obama is President - is to go in and review andvoid all Executive Orders issued by Bush that infringe on our Contstitutional RIghts....

Like I said, go and read them, and pray McCain (in reference to above ) doesn't get elected.

This appears to be a cover. I hope its a cover for him being a bit underprepared for the debate rather than for something more dire--like a personal meltdown. He's an old man, with an uneven temperament in the best of times who has been through a gruelling election process. Can he even speak coherently for his share of 90 minutes? The scary thing is that we'll never know until the tell all books come out after the fact.

Don't you know that tell all book would be a best seller on the first day out!

Congratulations Jed. As one who proverbially "putts from the rough" I whole heartedly agree. We gay boys know drama queens when we seem them!

I think the biggest irony from my standpoint is that he has not shared with the voters a clear and coherent perspective on his own proposal. He has declined as Senator Obama has done, to state his view on the bail out. Senator Obama has said that he opposes making this bill partisan, and has chided those in his own party to refrain from linking bankruptcy reform and economic stimulus proposals to the bill. On the other hand, her majesty has not even indicated whether he supports the concept, instead making a few snarky remarks about policies which brought it about, policies, which incidentally, he and his advisors authored. This came about due to abdication of the traditional regulatory role of the government. Who knows what Queen McCain stands for, since despite his pride in being "above politics", he seems to argue with himself one day to the next. Well, what do you expect from figure heads. We need a president, not an old queen.

Yet another stop on the flip-flop express.
Mr. Experience magically overnight tried to turn himself into Mr. Change with his convention speech.
Now he's trying to flip-flop from "I don't undertand how the economy works", to "I'm such an expert on the economy, this economic crisis can't be solved without my intervention". His desperate constant attempts to flip-flop on his stands on the issues and his image are beyond pathetic.
He's like an on-steroids version of the flailing-about and image-changing Al Gore from 2000. Let's hope he loses - and by a larger margin - like Gore did too.

Here's what will happen. The GOP in congress is huddled in the corner, mostly against "the bill", basically to make the dems take the heat. Now big John comes in to town, the one and only who can unite congress, and and lo and behold, the seas part! the sun shines down! and all the GOP sees reason and joins in, as Obama debates nolo contendre.

Gaming the most serious vote of our time for political theatre. We're all just rubes in their cynical cynical eyes.

Great point about herky-jerky style and temperament. We need a calm leader.
