Frank

One would think that some of John McCain's Republican colleagues might actually want to help him become president of these United States, but no: given the opportunity to ensure that the presidential candidate might be able to make a substantive contribution to bailout measure negotiations, McCain's friends in the Republican Party put their noses to the grindstone and worked out a deal without any Maverick input. Clearly Republican leaders are totally in the tank for Obama.

How painful was the thought of working alongside McCain? Over at Politico, they report that Barney Frank minced few words, saying: "Nobody mentioned him. The man's irrelevant to the whole process. No Republican mentioned his name. I'm the only one who raised his name. They winced when I did." Frank also compared McCain to a cartoon superhero:

"He's been irrelevant to the process. He remains to be," said Frank. "I was afraid that his dropping in here, like Andy Kaufman's Mighty Mouse -- 'here I am to save the day' -- I thought that would slow things down. I didn't see any sign of our Republican colleagues paying any attention to him whatsoever."

I don't think Barney Frank should insult a great hero like Might Mouse by comparing him to Mr. Evil

you are so right. i loved mighty mouse and when he was on his way the bad guys really got it. comparing that evil old man to a great hero is a disservice. mighty mouse was good and pure, certainly not a liar like mccain. i wonder how many other americans can see the folly of mccain inserting himself into these delicate negotiations. its almost funny. how desperate though.

Gee, you tellin' me ole' Barney is still there? I thought he and Dodd would be in the pokey by now. Aren't they the ones thst were in charge of making sure something like this wouldn't happen. Now Barney is in there trying to fix his screw up. You watch, when it's done he'll be out there taking credit for fixing it, just wait and see. You can be sure he and Dodd are catching alot of hell behind closed doors.

They should know the most about it . . . they helped break it and are taking boat loads of cash from the companies were bailing out.

Off the topic but I was horrified to see comments on AOL in response to lynching of cardboard cutout of Barack Obama on Christian college campus. The college responded appropriately but the comments from the peanut gallery were outrageous. http://news.aol.com/article/obama-effigy-hung-from-college-tree/187003. How about coming back at some of these vile bigots.

McCain behaves like a man who's cajones are held in a death grip by someone we don't know about yet. It's the way a man acts when he's taken money, or favors of the worst, most embarrassing kind. He will then do whatever his corruptors desire, because if he doesn't, it will be jail or worse.

Let's hope Obama kicks his @ss.

Part of human psychology is that when one reaches a certain advanced age, one stops caring about a great many things, as one's own mortality is staring one straight in the face. This means one simply doesn't care about the opinions of others, and does whatever one wants at that moment. One lives from moment to moment.

In a person with a healthy mind and few regrets from their life, this can be endearing to say the least, like an eccentric elderly aunt who always speaks her mind, and couldn't care less who is in earshot. However, this can be a vicious two-edged sword if the person has much to regret, a misspent life full of acts of cruelty and selfishness.

IMHO John McCain is the later sort of person, an old man staring his own mortality in the face, and who copes with this reality by acting in the most selfish, arrogant, and cavalier fashion, consequences to others - and the whole country- be damned.

On this alone McCain is utterly unfit for the office of President, and no sane, reasonable person should vote for such a creature if they truly love our country.

said Frank. "I was afraid that his dropping in here, like Andy Kaufman's Mighty Mouse -- 'here I am to save the day'

The suspension of belief that comes along with the not-really-happened suspension of McCain's campaign has not rolled like a wave across the aisles of Congress but has clearly suspended all faith on the part of the GOP leadership in McCain as a viable Presidential aspirant! With all the goo-cooing about McCain's war record contrasted with the flip flopping on issues and events, it's hard to reconcile this McCain with the one in 2000.
Clearly something more has deteriorated in the man than just integrity and honesty ... or just perhaps, it was never there in the first place ... has it all been smoke and mirrors?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:17 PM on 09/25/2008

I think so. If you actually look at his record in even cursory detail without the misty halo surrounding him due to his experiences as a prisoner of war. He was maligned and humiliated by George Bush in 2000 and yet he supported him wholeheartedly for the next eight years. He has been a "maveric" when, and only when, it suited him.
This latest stunt points out the desperation of a campaign that has been running by the seat of its pants from the beginning. I don't miss the "old John McCain", he was just as opportunistic and shallow as the "new...old John McCain".

I love Barney. He gets it right all the time. I know some folks who volunteer every time to get things done. Only problem?? They always show up after the project is completed and take credit for getting it down. All of a sudden its "we and I". Humm...wondering if McCane know who these folks are?

"He gets it right all the time"

LOL, open your eyes . . .

In 2003 when the R's wanted to reign in Fannie & Freddie:

“These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. “The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Rick Davis
Lobbyist for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
Campaign Manager of McCain (Sen.- Deregulationville)
Still on Board of Directors of Lobby Firm with his name at the top
Company paid a retainer of 15k/mo by FM and FM until last month
Why do you think that is?
Do they just like pissing money into the wind?

His whole campaign is run by and for lobbyists.

MMM - Mighty Mouse McCain. That's cute Barney. Now - how about that Mac and Barney Bill that we all want NOW. No bail out for the big cats or the little cats. We buy it - We get to own it. Like we bought Alaska - we can buy our financial institutions. Then like in Alaska - we can give ourselves one big check, once a year at least, for every citizen. If it works in Alaska - why can't it work in the lower states?

McCain just listened, and only when he stopped by two seconds till the end. That's like someone pulling a cake out of the oven after someone else made the entire thing and said "look what i made!?!" how selfish. How cruel and how cowardly.

Well John McCain did exactly as I thought he would today. Talks broke down! If things are as dire economically as we’ve been told, he is risking the future of the USA with his political ploy. He can’t go along with President Bush and win the election. He also can’t go along with a bailout plan and win the election. I expect he’ll announce the John McCain plan soon (tomorrow maybe so he can have that and go to the debate). My guess, it will be something sharing risk by involving private companies with the government.

Maybe others see this coming too and will be spending all night coming up with another alternative. The last thing America needs is another CONservative scheme. Perhaps a plan which directs all economic support to the people and small businesses in trouble and not going through Wall Street at all. A plan for improving America’s economic foundation.

Today, I’ve heard CONservatives talking about how Democrats are more ready to spend tax dollars than they are. I rather expect this rhetoric to pick up. Hopefully, they will be reminded President Bush asked for the money, sent people to explain how dire the situation is, McCain agreed the situation is dire and the Democrats have worked in good faith from day 1.

The Republicans in congress are afraid a tremendous backlash of the past 8 years of failure by the Bush administration. Things are so bad that the whole existence of the party is at stake. McCain is not running as a Republican. In fact, he barely even mentions the name of his party affiliation or its current leader Mr. Bush. That is why Republicans in congress do not pay any attention to him. Everyone is out to save their own neck. Can you name one high ranking Republican that was asked to campaign for McCain? I can't.

Please do not insult Mighty Mouse OR Wile E. Coyote.

We need to shout from the rooftops what a LIE and a SHAM McCain's campaign "suspension" was...canceled Letterman, but ran to interview with Katie Couric. Offices remained open, surrogates kept yapping. Maybe he just wanted to save on a day's worth of advertising.

The man is increasingly showing himself to be an opportunistic fraud.

The main photo says it all. Obama on one end of the table looking perturbed, McCain on the other grinning foolishly.

McCain was smiling like he'd won a prize while the crisis on Wall Street continues. Could it be that Boehner cooled the deal so his buddy John might get out of having to stand next to Obama at the debate tomorrow? Boy, they'll do anything to delay that photo op! But, uh oh, the media and the voters are ticked off at the idea that the debate won't happen. And his silly strategy to "reschedule" it just happened to postpone Sarah's drubbing also fell flat. Maybe McCain wasn't smiling so much as hysterical.

Way to throw the dice with the economy grampa. Can't wait to see the market tomorrow. You just keep playing games and . . . nope, that's it. You just keep playing games, while we all watch your poll numbers free fall.

BINGO!! You got it here was my post earlier on that:

http://www.politicalbase.com/profile/jnail/blog/&blogId=4300

A debate tomorrow nite will be like Custers Last Stand and allowing Palin anywhere near a real serious set of questions and an opponent is a game ender.

The real key is OHIO - Boehner delaying things to give McCain cover is McCains' last hope to regroup. Without OHIO he has ZERO path to the White House.

At first I was scratching my head that a bipartisan Congress seemed to be working this thing out, then McMighty Mouse showed up, got his photo op ascending the Capitol steps to save the day, and now Republicans are saying NO DEAL to what appeared to be a done deal. Could it be that the Republicans are giving cover to McCain so that he won't have to debate Friday night? McCain wants to change the debate until the evening of the veep debate. If he gets away with not debating Friday night, he will then try to scrub the veep debate as well as we all know that lightweight Sarah will humiliate the Republican ticket if she tries to debate. Depending on what his poll numbers do, next he'll be wanting to postpone the election too.

McCain's mantra "America First" is lame, laughable and an out and out lie. I live in Arizona, in the very same district where McCain got his start. Believe me, McCain's mantra has always been "McCain First".
