Frank

One would think that some of John McCain's Republican colleagues might actually want to help him become president of these United States, but no: given the opportunity to ensure that the presidential candidate might be able to make a substantive contribution to bailout measure negotiations, McCain's friends in the Republican Party put their noses to the grindstone and worked out a deal without any Maverick input. Clearly Republican leaders are totally in the tank for Obama.

How painful was the thought of working alongside McCain? Over at Politico, they report that Barney Frank minced few words, saying: "Nobody mentioned him. The man's irrelevant to the whole process. No Republican mentioned his name. I'm the only one who raised his name. They winced when I did." Frank also compared McCain to a cartoon superhero:

"He's been irrelevant to the process. He remains to be," said Frank. "I was afraid that his dropping in here, like Andy Kaufman's Mighty Mouse -- 'here I am to save the day' -- I thought that would slow things down. I didn't see any sign of our Republican colleagues paying any attention to him whatsoever."

Barney nailed it. I had exactly the same thought when McCain announced this silliness and started singing "Here I come to save the day!" to my wife's amusement.

Today, McCain is an unmighty mouse, scampering about to get attention.

My theory is that this is what McCain wants so he can step in and vote NO, then claim he opposed bush and bash the plan as not being what he recommended.

I wouldn't be surprised if many republicans bail on it as well and leave it passing with mostly D votes so they can have political cover and blame the democrats for what looks like it will be a largely unpopular bill.

Even Mighty Mouse could handle the economy and a debate

This latest trick by McCain is an act of desperation. I wouldn't want to follow a man leading me in the military who acts out of desperation. And I certainly will not follow a man like McCain who wants to be president so bad that he will do and say anything out of desperation. He is making a mockery of this election. And HE is supposed to be the one with experience? Obviously experience without good judgment is the most dangerous. Look at the mess the so-called "experienced" ones in the Bush administration have made. Unlike McCain, who said he never loved this country until he was held captive, I have always loved this country. I can't do much, but I won't just keep quiet while McCain tears this country apart.

John McCain's whole image is that of a decisive thinker, a man who puts country above personal ambition, a fighter pilot who must make instant and correct decisions. So sad really to see his whole political career come to such theater. John always wanted to be an actor and has an overblown self-image of his impact in history. This is a man born into a traditional Navy family, father and grandfather were 4 Star Admirals. He always sought attention as a boy, as a young Navy pilot, and a man. He always had to have a beautiful Babe by his side, he wrecked what 4 or 5 airplanes as a Navy pilot, commited adultery and abandoned his first wife and kids for a young heiress. Sad that he put what he had left, political integrity, on the betting table.

He should be embarrassed when he shows up for the debate tomorrow.

He could not possibly stay away.

What an embarrassment.

I love Barney, he doesn't mince words. He has the gift of mixing seriousness with the truth and you

still end up laughing knowing he was spot on.

Even in the hereafter, Kaufman still has the world laughing. That was too funny.

It has been pointed out here numerous times - Mac is not on the committee - he can't be in the room so what is he going to accomplish? Will he stand outside the chamber and swear at everyone who goes in and comes out? Good thing the members of the committee are, for once, in a non partisan fashion, doing their jobs and ignoring him. It's just a ruse and another lie. His campaign hasn't "suspended" its activities, regardless of how he lies about it.

He also said, "The White House isn’t show and tell. We’re going to the White House because the president asked us to go. Nobody thinks at this point that anything useful’s going to happen. But we now have to get things drafted and worked on. The White House meeting is just an interruption in our schedule."

The GOP in Congress know that Obama's election is their only chance in hell to recapture a majority in the next decade and have some personal dignity inside the Beltway.

Not that I approve, but America does have a much longer history of divided government than of one party governance.

Well, other than the fact that Obama will be stuck digging out of the mess created by Bush/Cheney and the Republican Majority (thru 2005) and the veto proof minority (2007-8), I don't see that the Repugnants will have much chance of gaining any ground during the next eight years. Of course, "wishful thinking" is free.

Yeah, it will be definitely a case of making the black guy shovel out the Republicans stinking mess.

From 2003 when Bush pushed to reform F & F . . .

“These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. “The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

McCain is "absolutely" sure that Palin is ready to be President. His colleagues are equally "absolutely sure that he is irrelevant.
This man is no war hero. See what other POWs say about him on YouTube.
He is a Fraud driven by naked ambition.
When he loses he will have no standing and forever will be tied to his low road, desperate campaign tactics.
