Biden Visits Indiana In Efforts To Turn State Blue

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. -- At the 'Campaign For Change' headquarters in downtown Jeffersonville, volunteers called supporters, while others painted brightly colored signs. Nearby at Warder Park, crews assembled the stage on which Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden will speak Wednesday afternoon.

"We definitely need change," said Clark County Democratic Party Chairman, Rod Pate. "We can't go on this way."

Pate said Biden's stump will energize the Democratic base in Southern Indiana in a race that's still very much up for grabs.

I especially liked it when he said this:

"Part of what being a leader does is to instill confidence, is to demonstrate what he or she knows what they are talking about and to communicating to people ... this is how we can fix this," Biden said.

In the next sentence he said this:

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,'" Barack Obama's running mate recently told the CBS Evening News.

Via Politico, another brilliant Biden quote from his interview with Katie Couric:


"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

As Reason's Jesse Walker footnotes it: "And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, 'Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?'"


I can imagine the Democrats' reaction if Sarah Palin had made this gaffe.

It was inconsequential. The point he made was not. The problem is not that Sarah mispeaks, it's that nearly evrything out of her mouth is either a flat out lie or a non-sequiteur. Yes Biden makes the occasional gaffe but he's also long on substance and genuine experience. Palin is ALL gaffe.
