Craig Ferguson Knocks John McCain For Suspending Campaign, Compares Him To Castro, Napoleon, Caesar

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Newly minted US citizen Craig Ferguson is outraged that John McCain would attempt to suspend the democratic process in the face of an economic crisis. In his monologue Wednesday night, Ferguson railed against McCain, saying:

"You can't suspend the democratic process because we're facing problems. At what point do you think, maybe we should suspend the election? We'll have the elections later. Some people have done that before: Castro did it, Napoleon did it, Julius Caesar did it. You can't do that. If you like it or not, the campaign is part of the democratic process....You wanna take your time off, that's fine, but you don't say we're suspending the campaign. You can't say that. It's the democratic process. We didn't suspend it for 9/11, we didn't suspend it for Pearl Harbor, we didn't suspend it for the Nazis, we didn't suspend it for the damn British. We don't do that in America!"

The night before, I guess, Ferguson talked about the bailout. He said the top 50 CEO's involved should give 40% of their wealth-- they'd never miss it with the multimillions/billions they have.... and 50 people could complete the bailout vs. $3200/per person taxpayers (I'm not sure where he got that figure as I tuned in late). But I loved that!

Those CEO's should be happy with that ...... they're lucky they're not in jail, where they belong.

This makes me wish I could've signed Ferguson's immigration paperwork as a reference. Good for him; we need more guys like him here if we're gonna make it a nation - at least, resembling anything like what was originally intended, that is.

Where we went to a land, slaughtered the indigenous people, took and used slaves...

Sorry to sound like an ultra-leftie. But for the revisionism both sides partake in, some history books are comparatively unfettered as to why the US came into existence in the first place. Of course, that's very 18th century and this is the early 21st, not to mention the Constitution also being intended as a "living document"...

Firstly, there is no "we" that came over here. It was a diverse movement of people from all across Europe and other parts of the world, Protestants, Catholics, Quakers.... these groups are not interchangeable. Slavery existed in many societies, and in many it was more deadly than in the United States. There was a debate then about what the "original intentions" of the Revolution were, and the debate continues today and will continue for generations to come.

This sounds like ultra-lefty revisionism. As a student of history, I know that no history books are "unfettered."

We do not want this crazed man to win the White House. He will bring our country down just like G. W. Bush has done in the last 8 years only even more.

How can we trust him for what his campaign is showing us day by day, week by week, month by month. This man is very dangerous and must be stopped by voting for Obama.

McCain didn't mean suspend as in stop his campaign temporarily. He meant that he wanted to suspend his campaign as in keep it from continuing its freefall. How dare Obama twist his words like that? This is just one more sign that Obama hates America.

If you are being sarcastic..good for you! If you mean what you say, you're even dumber than McCain/Palin.

Are we really going to let a nutcase like McCain near the White House? People wake up. The guy is a manipulative creep who should be kept as far away as possible from the reigns of government.

The way this evil president has run the country, I think "reigns" is spot on.

The notion of skipping the debates is an open admission that McCain is afraid he isn't up to the task of debating the issues. Then it must follow as day follows night, he isn't up to the task of leading the nation in time of war and economic crisis. I bet McCain can't walk and chew gum at the same time either.

The Republicans have been destroying the constitution bit by bit for the past 8 years....McCain forgot that Bush/Cheney didn't establish a complete dictatorship yet.... he just spoke a bit too soon...if McCain Palin wins...they will complete the job...

Putin is a far more effective leader. And he isn't a poser. Have you ever taken a close look at this man? He's an animal. I'd put good money on him at the UFC. You know, there was a time, that to avoid unnecessary bloodshed, they'd elect to just let champions fight each other for the victory. George W. Bush vs. Vladmir Putin... with maces and morning stars. No impeachment necessary.

I love watching this guy. As a relatively new citizen (since Jan, I think), he takes our democracy very seriously and good for him. He's spot on. Love his humor, love his comments. He's the best we have on late night. Hope they move him earlier so more people can enjoy his humor AND his great perspective.

I second that! I'm so glad he's become a citizen! He is hilarious!

I love Craig too. He's the funniest late night host. He's the only late show that I watch regularly. His humor is off the wall sometimes but spot on other times.

I love his accent. He could read the phone book and I would be entranced for hours!!

His obvious love for his new country is inspiring. Not many native-born americans are so passionate about our country.

It is funny how he suspended his campaign, but is still accepting donations, and running his ads.
