Craig Ferguson Knocks John McCain For Suspending Campaign, Compares Him To Castro, Napoleon, Caesar

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Newly minted US citizen Craig Ferguson is outraged that John McCain would attempt to suspend the democratic process in the face of an economic crisis. In his monologue Wednesday night, Ferguson railed against McCain, saying:

"You can't suspend the democratic process because we're facing problems. At what point do you think, maybe we should suspend the election? We'll have the elections later. Some people have done that before: Castro did it, Napoleon did it, Julius Caesar did it. You can't do that. If you like it or not, the campaign is part of the democratic process....You wanna take your time off, that's fine, but you don't say we're suspending the campaign. You can't say that. It's the democratic process. We didn't suspend it for 9/11, we didn't suspend it for Pearl Harbor, we didn't suspend it for the Nazis, we didn't suspend it for the damn British. We don't do that in America!"

Does this mean that McCain will add CBS to his growing list of media outlets he wont deal with- MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CNN,

All the pundits and so called anchors on CBS, ABC, NBS, CNN, MSNBC, FIX, etc. could learn a thing or two from this brand new citizen named Craig Ferguson. They clearly need him to remind them of the fundamentals of democracy

(i.e. YOU CAN"T SUSPEND THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS...EVER!)

And, oh......I bet some of our soldiers would like to suspend the IRAQ war for a while so they can handle their own personal crises created by multiple deployments.

MCAIN ARE YOU LISTENING?

Sorry, I realized just after I posted that you didn't forget Keith and Rachel; I promptly let out a Colbert-esque "Nooooooooo!"

The rest of my post remains.

Why are videos on huffpost always no longer available by the time I get here? Why are they kept in the post after they no longer work?

I think we should suspend our various campaigns and head to Wash. pronto. "All hands on deck", says this "old navy pilot".

Gawd-he's like my uncle Edward. It's always Vietnam this or "damn the torpedoes" that. It's amusing because Uncle Eddy has been retired for years and harms no one with living in the past. But McCain........ Terrifying!

It takes a newly minted American to express the righteous indignation about McCain that we SHOULD be hearing from the MSM.
I bet Sarah Palin couldn't pass the citizenship test that Ferguson had to pass.

I took the test and it is not easy... I bet most Americans would not pass it either.

I got a gander of the test and was embarrassed that I couldn't pass it now. When I was in the 8th grade I could do better. Time makes fools of us all.

There are probably a lot of people who could not pass the citizenship test.
We were born here but should STILL know about the democratic process and how our government is suppose to work. If we did know these things, just maybe some would have not been so gullible as to believe the bull pocky that the current administration has feed us for the last 8 yrs.

That's funny. When I grew up in Texas in the 50s and 60s, we studied only Texas history. When my family moved to Illinois when I was 10, I didn't know what Illinois was. Sarah is probably the same. Does she know that alaska isn't a country? (her husband doesn't)

I think I really get this now. It truly IS the use of the word "suspend".

How WOULD we all be reacting if Dick Cheney did think this crisis is bad enough to "suspend" the Election!? Isn't that Martial Law?

Is this and Bush's fright speech last night to get us somehow USED to the idea of this crisis possibly suspending Democracy?

Didn't Ross Perot try this same kind of "I'm out" and "now I'm back in" campaign in the mid 90's? It pretty much ended his chances at being elected IIRC. I've already made my decision this time around, but I have to say if I were leaning toward McCain before I'd seriously consider voting for the other guy at this point. Craig has it exactly right, Democracy must go on and the fact that McCain has to campaign on Bush's cratering legacy this month is a poor excuse for quitting.

The numbers on that poll are great. McCain's suspension at 42%, Obama's don't suspend at 56%, which is basically what all the polls are showing now, but with the undecided voters taking Obama's position to hold the debate. That should frighten McCain. Somebody go wake him up and tell him.

There nothing so beautiful as a NEW American. Letterman did fine job putting the flame to McCain's feet, but, recently nationalized Scottish-American Craig Ferguson put the issue in it's proper ethical and cultural context.

In his Scottish brogue, "You don't do that" with his finger wagging into the camera puts McCain's stunt in league with diddling the kids, or, farting at the table... it's simply not done.

Perhaps it's that McCain has a Scottish name that set him off.

I wish I could find the entire monologue on youtube, because Craig went on to make some really great points about the "BAILOUT FOR BILLIONAIRES" being urgent, but there's never any urgent bailout for kids without healthcare. (it was close to a Howard Beal scene from "Network")

Mad as hell...

My father emigrated from Ireland, and you'd never meet a an American citizen who was a more fervent patriot, nor one more committed to democratic principles and protection of civil liberties.

The Scots, like the Irish, have very long memories, and they recall full well what it's like to be crushed by the heel of imperialism.

Kudos, Mr. Ferguson!

We're proud to have you in the patriot column, instead of the "sheep" column like much of America.

Interesting that a new citizen, welcome Craig, understands freedom and democracy better than John McCain. Freedom isn't free; we sometimes have to wring it away from the Republicans who really prefer aristocracy.
