Craig Ferguson Knocks John McCain For Suspending Campaign, Compares Him To Castro, Napoleon, Caesar

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Newly minted US citizen Craig Ferguson is outraged that John McCain would attempt to suspend the democratic process in the face of an economic crisis. In his monologue Wednesday night, Ferguson railed against McCain, saying:

"You can't suspend the democratic process because we're facing problems. At what point do you think, maybe we should suspend the election? We'll have the elections later. Some people have done that before: Castro did it, Napoleon did it, Julius Caesar did it. You can't do that. If you like it or not, the campaign is part of the democratic process....You wanna take your time off, that's fine, but you don't say we're suspending the campaign. You can't say that. It's the democratic process. We didn't suspend it for 9/11, we didn't suspend it for Pearl Harbor, we didn't suspend it for the Nazis, we didn't suspend it for the damn British. We don't do that in America!"

Another bite will be taken out of our "democratic process" on October first when our troops just back from Iraq begin to patrol our streets right here at home.

Since we are all, apparently, entitled to keep our own arsenals it really won't be necessary, but thanks so much anyway. Feel free to let democracy proceed.

We can only hope a few of them still have a conscience. Their weapons are far more effective. Not to say I won't come to the dance...

On 9/11, out of respect, both of the McCain and Obama camps suspended campaigning for the day. If McCain and Obama had both agreed to suspend the campaign until the bill is passed, that would have been fine (although, technically they would have had no need to make a big speech about it, simply going to DC would have sufficed), but McCain grandstanded this issue and his way of being bi-partisan was stabbing Obama in the back instead of requesting a private meeting first to discuss it.
Anyway, since yesterday he made a big self-promoting speech "suspending" his campaign, he then went on CBS news followed by the Clinton fest. His suspension means going into overdrive I guess.
I look forward to the advertisement, labelled a Public service announcement, about how he won't be running any advertisements.

since when is a campaign actually a part of the "democratic" process. I thought that was voting and serving in government (like a senator that actually does senate work-not just campaign for two or more years)?

The repugnicans always say the opposite of what they mean so if John McCain says "suspend campaign" he means "continute" campaigning. It's a weird language, but we've had 8 long years to learn it.

It's like "no child left behind" or "the surge is working." Beware of doublespeak on the no straight talk express.

They did not suspend their campains on 9/11 they simply both went to Gound Zero both on 9/11. Plus McCain hasn't suspended his campaign because he is still showing negative ads in Florida. I'm sure if I go out and read other newspapers in battleground states, it will show that McCain is running negative ads in those states also.

"he won't be running any advertisements"

... because he's out of money. No one supports McCain/Palin.

Although the debate commission says, "yes the debates will go on as scheduled," write or call and let your voice be heard.

ALL OF THE ABOVE

Gaius Julius, Napoleon, and Fidel courted the proletariat, were superb orators, and delivered on their promises which were not to the satisfaction of the ruling classes in their society – nor would they be acceptable to Wall Street bankers, the reactionary christian republicans, or Cindy McCain and her husband.

Meanwhile

"The president helped McCain out last night by inviting both candidates to Washington today to put their imprimatur on a deal that seemed near completion."

(Harold Meyerson, Washington Post Thursday, September 25, 2008; Page A19)

I disagree, Prez Bush made McCain's gesture irrelevant because THE PRESIDENT extended the invitation because he explained the crisis in words of one syllable and because Bush was so placid it made McCain look hysterical.

And finally.

"McCain is ill. His eyes and face show some disturbing signs of medical trouble. He is postponing the debate so the cameras do not focus on his face. Just check out any of the videos of him ... ."

Yes,I had assumed that was his natural look without make-up. These days a healthy 72 year old should look almost unchanged from age 64. Cf. Jack LaLane and any good doctor or martial arts master.

McCain has the best doctors in the world, but it seems he has not listened to their advice -- of course dealing with the reactionary wing of the republican party would age anyone.

XXXOOO

Funny how new citizens (naturalized) have a better understanding of what democracy is and in many ways respect the values of the constition more.

McCain - NO TIME OUTS....NO BREAKS, THE DEBATES MUST HAPPEN AS SCHEDULED

New citizens just had to learn what our system is supposed to be about. The rest of us had our list Civics class in junior high school. (Do they still teach Civics?)

What's with the audience? They seemed very hesitant in backing up what was said. Have we become so cowed the we'll sit idly by while the rug is pulled from under us?

WRONG! I watched it. They were in awe that he would go so far out on a limb because he's normally very careful not to. They/we cheered wildly when he was done. I think Craig should let his inner democrat run free. We need passion right now, not more pablum for the tarded.

Palin wants to suspend her debate too. Keep us in the dark. No press, no questions. Sounds UN-AMERICAN to me Something is seriously wrong. Whatever happened to John McCain/

Ferguson has the passionate point of view of America that comes with naturalized citizens who love their country in a way that's different than those of us who were born on U.S. soil. (John McCain is exempt from this passionate patriotism because he's McCain and he can do whatever the eff he wants).

Unfair references comparing McCain to Castro, Caesar and Napoleon. McCain was below the bottom 1% of his class when he graduated -- graduating only because of his dad's influence. Caesar, Castro and Napoleon were all brilliant.
