Newsweek:

Rick Davis, John McCain's campaign manager, has remained the treasurer and a corporate director of his lobbying firm this year, despite repeated statements by campaign officials that he had ended his relationship with the firm in 2006, according to corporate records.

The McCain campaign this week criticized news stories disclosing that, since 2006, Davis's firm has been paid a $15,000-a-month consulting fee from Freddie Mac, the troubled mortgage giant recently put under federal conservatorship. The stories, published Tuesday by NEWSWEEK, The New York Times and Roll Call, reported that the consulting fees continued until last month even though, according to two sources familiar with the arrangement, neither Davis nor anybody else at his firm did any substantial work for the payments.

]he Democratic National Committee, using publicly available records, has identified 177 lobbyists working for the McCain campaign as either aides, policy advisers, or fundraisers.

Of those 177 lobbyists, according to a Mother Jones review of Senate and House records, at least 83 have in recent years lobbied for the financial industry McCain now attacks. These are high-paid influence-peddlers who have been working the corridors of the nation's capital to win favors and special treatment for investment banks, securities firms, hedge funds, accounting outfits, and insurance companies. Their clients have included AIG, the newest symbol of corporate excess; Lehman Brothers, which filed for bankruptcy on Monday sending the stock market into a tailspin; Merrill Lynch, which was bought out by Bank of America this week; and Washington Mutual, the banking giant that could be the next to fall. Among these 83 lobbyists are McCain's chief political adviser, Charlie Black (JP Morgan, Washington Mutual Bank, Freddie Mac, Mortgage Bankers Association of America); McCain's national finance co-chairman, Wayne Berman (AIG, Blackstone, Credit Suisse, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac); the campaign's congressional liaison, John Green (Carlyle Group, Citigroup, Icahn Associates, Fannie Mae); McCain's veep vetter, Arthur Culvahouse (Fannie Mae); and McCain's transition planning chief, William Timmons Sr. (Citigroup, Freddie Mac, Vanguard Group).

So appropriately, for many reasons, this is McCain's new theme song:
_________
Now everybody have you heard
If you're in the game, then the stroke's the word
Don't take no rhythm, don't take no style
Got a thirst for killin', grab your vile...

You put your right hand out give a firm hand-shake
Talk to me about that one big break...
Spread your ear-pollution both far and wide...
Keep your contributions by your side and stroke me,
stroke me
Could be a winner boy, you move quite well...
You got your number down...
Say you're a winner but man you're just a sinner now

You put your left foot out keep it all in place...
Work your way right into my case
First you try to bed me you make my backbone slide
But when you found you bled me-- skip on by...
keep on---stroke me, stroke me
Give me the business all night long...
You're so together boy...
Say you're a winner but man you're just a sinner now

Better listen now (said) it ain't no joke
Let your conscience fail ya, just do the stroke
Don'tcha take no chances keep your eye on top
Do your fancy dances you can't stop you just stroke me,
stroke me

Since McCain has convieniently got this story bumped down from the top news - I suggest we all agree to keep mentioning it and emailing the MSM so they don't forget to pick this up where it left off.

McCain is in "suspended animation" trying to play CYA for he and Davis' dubiuos campaign contributions and alliances with Freddie Mac. He's seeking immunity under the bailout guidelines where there would be no prosecution or oversight,as proposed by Paulsen. Don't forget the Abramoff Indian hearings McCain chaired, and the concealment he did there for his lobby buddies, including Haley Barbour.

You are right this is Keating 5 Redux.
Except this time it is Davis 7
because of the top 7 lobbyists advising his campaign.

The Double Talk Express has finally been crashed.

McCain didn't learn a thing from his Keating 5 experience. He still doesn't get it. You can't take money for lobbying, consulting, friendship (or what ever you want to call it) and still consider yourself independent. Davis is still a partner in Manafort, the official company filings prove it. Even if he is not currently drawing a salary, the dollar value of his share in the business is increasing. Consequently he is not Independent. Once again McCain is caught in a lie.

It seems, McCain owes the NYT's an apology.

Ever notice how much Rick Davis and Jeffrey Dahmer look alike? Coincidense? I don't think so.

That could be construed as an insult to Dahmer.

Have you noticed how Palin and "Ernestine" (Lily Tomlin's character) sound alike? "One ringy dingy..."

So much for the "straight talk" express. Too bad some people can't see through this. The GOP should be disbanded and outlawed.

Still treasure and corporate director...wow.

Considering there's no financial arrangement in my company the financial officers are unaware of, I'd say this is pretty damning. Like Palin and the charging vicitims for rape kits thing, either he knew and signed off on it, or he is completely inept.

That the bucket full of lobbyists running McCain's campaign is clear and obvious while McCain denies it is confirmation that McCain believes the majority of Americans are as stupid as he acts like we are. Insulting to think but stranger to believe that many American's are proving their level of "Stupid is as stupid does" by their continuing to believe the lies the McCain camp is spreading like cow manure, thick and stinky. That Davis is playing the street on both sides and getting paid massive amouns of money for his "influence" with McCain and those who support McCain not being absolutely offended by it says the supporters like how Bush has done business these past 8 years and they want it to continue. Bush and his cronies have cost us the money we had in the bank when he took over. He has cost us the respect of the world and it's leaders. He has made war and tortured human beings that is totally againest all agreements ever made in support of the Geneva accord and the humane treatment of other humans. These things are what McCain has fully supported and has been a cheerleader for so he has the not changed from that postion we all saw when he hugged Bush like Bush was his life line. It all makes me sick as it should all Americans.
