I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Mccain

When John McCain announced yesterday that he was suspending his campaign to help everyone solve the economy, and inviting Barack Obama to do the same, I must admit -- at first, I tried to think unconventionally, and I allowed myself to consider whether McCain's gesture, while almost certainly quixotic, might be sincere. Of course, soon after, I peeped the tick-tock, and learned that it originated with Obama encouraging a joint statement on the matter. For his trouble, Obama and his campaign basically got blindsided by this "suspension" maneuver. This is apparent on its face, and really should quash any suspicion that McCain's decision to suspend his campaign and inject himself into the bailout proceedings was some sort of "Country First," non-political gesture.

Of course, another clear sign that this campaign suspension is pure bunk is the fact that no suspending of the campaign has actually occurred! As documented on last night's Late Show With David Letterman, McCain's hasty exit didn't find the candidate beating a path to the halls of power, to lay hands on the nation's economy. His next stop was to sit down with Katie Couric, after which, he went...nowhere? You know, despite all the danger the country was in. Today, his surrogates have been out on teevee, in clear contravention of the suspension order. Nicolle Wallace and Tucker Bounds both appeared on MSNBC, sandwiching themselves around a campaign appearance McCain made himself at the Clinton Global Initiative. Meanwhile, at 10:00 am this morning, the actual leaders on this matter began their actual work on the bailout package. It's fair to say that they've already outpaced all of McCain's contributions on the bailout matter, even if we include the lovely set of talking points his campaign drew up for campaign volunteers to use in discussion -- you know, the campaign volunteers whose activities are supposed to have been, uhm...suspended.

But McCain is an honorable man, after all, and he is, at some point, coming to Washington, at President Bush's behest, not in pursuit of personal ambition, but of Solutions for America, right? Right? At AMERICAblog, Joe Sudbay notes that today's schedule of events casts doubt on this contention:

At 4:00 p.m., (ABC News reported via email) George Bush, whose approval rating on the economy is at 16% with a 76% disapproval, will be hosting the White House photo-op (that's what Barney Frank is calling it). John McCain will be there for that session.

Let's be clear: McCain will miss the meeting about substance. But, McCain will be there for the grandstanding.

Where, exactly, is this suspension of campaigning?

"Mcbush stands up to Letterman".
Wasn't McCain the one who couldn't seem to stand up to Letterman or a debate with Obama
We need to look at what and who McCain is Now.
It does not look "Presidential".

McSame knows he has no chance in a debate against Obama and was hoping that by saying he was going to suspend his campaining and put off the debate that Obama would also agree and McSame would be saved the embarrassment when Obama whipes the floor with him. Too bad that blew up in his face.

Up here in Minnesota, I was greeted this morning by a McCain ad, and another just ran (10:30 pm, or so). Has anyone offered a McCain definition for "suspend"?

I just saw one here in Michigan at around midnight. I think McCain just meant he was gonna start wearing suspenders.

its just like anything else in his campaign, just lie about it...just spout falsehoods, and some buzz hungry 24 hour news show will give it headline attention...

Suspend for most people means to put on hold, not to actively pursue an objective...to McCain it means to say you are putting something on hold, but not actually acting according to the thing you said you were going to do...the guy is a lying old sack, who sold his soul...too bad it looks like a large portion of the country are buying...

Holy cow! I have just spent the last 1 1/2 hours fact checking the video posted below. It explains much better than any economist could, how we got into this economic meltdown.

Frankly, I think the whole McCain/Palin and Republican campaign drama is a sick joke. IMO, Republicans in general have been a band of phony, greedy, corrupt liars and low lifes. I do hope that while President Obama serves his terms in office, that the Republicans will work on recruiting some Americans with integrity and honor by the time they next run a campaign, They sure need to do a complete overhaul of their party..

I wish the election were held today, because I hate sitting on pins and needles waiting to see what McCain and Bush and his band of thieves cook up next. I will breathe a deep sigh of relief on November 5th, and particularly after Obama is sworn in during January.

The debates will not be cancelled. If McCain and Palin don't show up, the country will see that they don't know what they are doing. I believe McCain's campaign came up against a tougher candidate than they expected in Obama. They probably thought he would take their lies, deceit and magic tricks sitting down; and now that he has shown his mettle, they are McChicken and McMoose burger. If they had started an honest campaign rather than come out of the gate punching and pulling magic tricks, things could have been a lot different. But now, McCain has lost his integrity, has shown that he is the last person we need as a leader to help our country back to decency. I almost get the feeling that McCain is regretting his run in this race and his selection of Palin. He knows he will lose and is trying to find a way out that will not make him look as bad as he does right now.

And as far as BUsh, it is very clear that the emperor is wearing no clothes. Problem is he is unpredictable at this point, and perhaps it's not too late to impeach before he pulls some diabolical trick on us.

In the world of Steve Schmidt, John McCain, and Rick Davis, a campaign that continues is suspended, up is down, and black is white. The "Straight Talk Express" is upside down in a ditch on the side of the road.

McCain ads slamming Obama were aired today in Wisconsin. Please reply to this message with the state you saw similar ads. I'm curious if there will be 49 replies.

FLASHBACK TO FEBRUARY 2000 -
McCaiin withdraws from Debate with Republican Primary candidate George Bush in California. McCain campaign officials tried desperately yesterday to put the best face on their withdrawal, even as a new Field Poll showed Bush far ahead among likely Republican voters in the winner-take-all race for the state's 162 GOP delegates.
Can't teach an old dog new tricks....

What a crock! There was no suspension of the campaign. In Eastern NC McCain's t v ad was playing today at about 12:40. Watch how McCain will turn this around. I hope absolutely NO ONE lets him get away with it. He has lied, and all of this posturing has been for show. The suspension of the campaign was a hoax. Now, McCain will show up in Mississippi for the debate, acting as if he has done something great. I hope Obama stands up to him; forget that "with all due respect" line.

McCain proves once again there is nothing he is not willing to lie about....

From the slogan "Country First", which is his first lie. Anyone who puts their nation first would NEVER attempt to inflict sarah palin upon us as a possible choice for VP. Especially a VP to a sickly 72 year old cancer patient, no other VP in recent history has a better chance to ascend to the presidency as Caribou Barbie would.

And, McBush's latest lie about putting his campaign on hold......

He is doing NOTHING different except trying to control the dialog on this crisis. He offers no real solutions, instead he craps all over the hard work of others in a sick attempt to make himself look "presidential". Instead, he is looking like an opportunist of the worst kind.

McSame is starting to look like a traitor instead of a hero.
