I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Mccain

When John McCain announced yesterday that he was suspending his campaign to help everyone solve the economy, and inviting Barack Obama to do the same, I must admit -- at first, I tried to think unconventionally, and I allowed myself to consider whether McCain's gesture, while almost certainly quixotic, might be sincere. Of course, soon after, I peeped the tick-tock, and learned that it originated with Obama encouraging a joint statement on the matter. For his trouble, Obama and his campaign basically got blindsided by this "suspension" maneuver. This is apparent on its face, and really should quash any suspicion that McCain's decision to suspend his campaign and inject himself into the bailout proceedings was some sort of "Country First," non-political gesture.

Of course, another clear sign that this campaign suspension is pure bunk is the fact that no suspending of the campaign has actually occurred! As documented on last night's Late Show With David Letterman, McCain's hasty exit didn't find the candidate beating a path to the halls of power, to lay hands on the nation's economy. His next stop was to sit down with Katie Couric, after which, he went...nowhere? You know, despite all the danger the country was in. Today, his surrogates have been out on teevee, in clear contravention of the suspension order. Nicolle Wallace and Tucker Bounds both appeared on MSNBC, sandwiching themselves around a campaign appearance McCain made himself at the Clinton Global Initiative. Meanwhile, at 10:00 am this morning, the actual leaders on this matter began their actual work on the bailout package. It's fair to say that they've already outpaced all of McCain's contributions on the bailout matter, even if we include the lovely set of talking points his campaign drew up for campaign volunteers to use in discussion -- you know, the campaign volunteers whose activities are supposed to have been, uhm...suspended.

But McCain is an honorable man, after all, and he is, at some point, coming to Washington, at President Bush's behest, not in pursuit of personal ambition, but of Solutions for America, right? Right? At AMERICAblog, Joe Sudbay notes that today's schedule of events casts doubt on this contention:

At 4:00 p.m., (ABC News reported via email) George Bush, whose approval rating on the economy is at 16% with a 76% disapproval, will be hosting the White House photo-op (that's what Barney Frank is calling it). John McCain will be there for that session.

Let's be clear: McCain will miss the meeting about substance. But, McCain will be there for the grandstanding.

Where, exactly, is this suspension of campaigning?

Grandstanding? Or gumming up the works?

Several reports that an impasse has been reached.

And now some Wall Streeter is attempting to up the ante:

The banking system needs ANOTHER $500 billion to survive beyond the $700 billion rescue plan being contemplated by Congress, said Pimco founder Bill Gross. (caps added for emphasis)

It's a TRAP for Obama:

McCain will drag this out; get Obama to debate alone, and then close the deal while Obama is away.

McCain can't close the deal because he is not involved in negotiations. He is not on the Senate Banking Committee and obviously not the House Financial Services Committee. It was already reported yesterday by Frank that the Democrats are almost finished negotiating. I think it is wise of Obama to go on TV, especially with the moderator chosen. Moreover, he will be invited to a townhall, if I understand correctly, as the decision to continue in that format will not be his but that of the committee overseeing the debates. I'm hopeful that this will work to Obama's favour.

The heads at Ole Miss have been planning this for two years, invested money into this debate. The Head of Ole Miss said if Mccain does not show...it will be a 90 minute town hall for Obama......TAKE THAT MCCAIN.....MISSISSIPPI - WILL GO OBAMA.....

And we should care why?

Obama gets ninety minutes in prime time by himself if that happens. That is a lot better than any spin coming out of the McHoover campaign.

Does this now mean that the American Economy will have a "heart attack" - and we will all suffer the dire consequences of which President Bush warned last night? What Paulson and Bernanke have been working on with congress to avoid the heart attack is now useless?

On ABC news tonight, McCain called the $700 Billion an "expenditure" - not an ASSET, which the American people are being told it is - we tax payers are not only supposed to get the money back, but actually make a profit.

Is this President Bush's idea of "Leadership" or Sen. McCains?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:12 PM on 09/25/2008

That is what I understood, it the end, from the top economist, that the taxpayer, in the end would get more money back and make a profit ..... Obviously since McCain didn't think about it (does he think about anything)...that this bailout, which will be ferreted out and not the entire 700,000 billion. We are losing jobs all over the country, businesses are closing and you can thank Mr. Bush and Mr. Mccain since he voted with Bush 90% of the time.

Too bad that McCain wants to "CUT AND RUN" from the debate.

The BS about caring about the economy, which he had admitted a lack of knowledge in favor of his sword-rattling "war on terror", seems to be a smokescreen to divert attention from his economic blunders (both now and links to Keating 5). Afraid the other side will bring it up, John?

It's comforting that McCain's publicity stunt to "act like a leader" blew up in his face today. The general public is not going to believe everything that comes out of his mouth, since he's lied so often in this campaign.

If a McCain live in the Hanoi Hilton for 5 years, 90 minutes talking to Senator Obama should be a piece of cake

I was very amused by the David Letterman Show's choice of Keith Olbermann to replace John McSame after he cancelled on Letterman last night. After the crushing news of late a little comic relief is welcome, especially when it's at McSame's expense! Great jobs Dave and Keith! McSame is pathological, he believes his own lies. Instead of going straight to Washington as he claimed to Letterman, he was interviewing with Katie Couric (what? he didn't "suspend" his campaign?) Love watching him getting called out on his lies at every opportunity.

This is even scarier in a way, but what if he *meant* to tell Dave it was for a 'news' interview, but got caught up in his posturing and just *forgot* that part? Yep, telling the truth means there's less one has to keep track of . . .

It's time for Obama to quit playing. McCain is an unapologetic weasel and a liar. He will shamelessly and cynically manipulate this crisis for the worst kind of political gain. Obama must not let McCain pull this Maverick The Saves The Day stunt. McLoophole is desparate and he is gambling. Obama needs to hedge against the low info voter and the compliant MSM.

I heard Obama's press conference after the meeting today. He seems to talk in cliches and generalities like his typical stump speech. If it was the Clintons you would hear some facts and figures. Some depth of knowledge beyond the obvious. He really does talk down to his supporters and they pretend they are the well-educated, highly informed ones. "Hope" and "Change" appeals to their higher intellect. Yeah. Right.

You really should grow up. If you think that the Clintons are so high and mighty why don't you explain that to the hundreds of thousands of Rwandan's that died as a result of Clintons grandstanding and do nothing-ness. Oh and by the way, it isn't as though Clinton didn't support this continuation of Reagan's deregulation and pro-business government agenda.

Gee. You Obama kids are funny. Obama, his-self, was aknowledging Clinton's presidency the other day after dismissing it during the primaries. So, do y'all disagree with Obama's favorable description of the Clinton years. It must be hard keeping up with the shifting rhetoric out of the Obama campaign.

"Wall Street. Main Street. Corruption. Yada, yada, yada" - Barack Obama

Did he say anything you didn't already know? You probably could have written his speech.

Lets get real. Today 25 Sept 08 is not 24 Sept 08. Therefore, I can provide you figures too, but does it make it a fact for the short or long term in dealing with the stock markets that go up and down every second. I can provide you the cost of gasoline at one pump, but in the same city, in the same state, the cost at each pump is different.

What you are use to in the Clinton's politics, if you look around, their NAFTA with all those facts and figures didn't turn out to great for the American workers with 25 millions jobs moved out of country. has not worked just as they said it would.

I don't understand how someone can speak without depth and yet talk down to people. Is something like writing without depth on a subject that exceeds you?

McCain will now be trying to take credit for the proposal package that has been worked out for the financial crisis, even though he got there to Wash. after it had largely been hammered out.
He is a phony, who likes to "blow his own trumpet" most of the time.
