Eye

AmericaBlog:

Joe and Rob both mentioned this to me in the past week, and now several readers have brought it up. I also just noticed that Atrios picked up on this too today. Something wrong, changed, droopy or puffy with McCain's left eye. Anybody else notice anything? I just searched Google a bit more and found references to his eye being droopy in April and May of this year as well. But whatever it is, it seems to be intermittent. (McCain has had 4 bouts of melanoma, and did in 2002 have a benign growth removed from under his left eye.)

I decided to take a look at McCain's Herbert Hoover Speech, as Rob calls the economic speech McCain gave last Friday in Wisconsin, and tried to see what it was that Rob was noticing wrong with McCain's left eye. It was only a 15 second video, so I pulled it up in my iMovie movie editor and checked out each frame (see a selection of still shots above). What you see is apparently McCain's left eye more closed than this right, and/or when he blinks, his left eye is lazier, or blinks slightly out of phase with his right. Either way, it does look like something's up. Perhaps McCain has always had a bad left eye, though it's odd that so many people just noticed this week.

today was the first day I noticed it as well. His health really is an issue considering his age and the potential veep.

I have noticed not just the eye as it has seemed just odd enough to not be able to pin it down. It is the side of his face that isn't the same. Kind of more of a promounced lump that appears like he has a infected tooth but he doesn't that kind of lump. I know he has pronounced disfigured scars on that side so it has become as if "normal" to see him with those scars so who knows?

I noticed that too today. I think he's losing his mind.

the use of eye drops containing steriods often times for conditions like glucoma can cause your eye to droop

He is having spasms in that eye and excessive eye blinking.
It could be Parkinson's disease or a stroke or a nervous system disorder.
Someone better call for a full medical checkup and his medical records released BEFORE the election!

You bet that MSNBC will bring this up. Even Begala just shook his head at the tactic that McCain took today of suspending his campaign, then McCain went, not to Washington but to New York for an interview with Coric, and will speak tomorrow at the Clinton International corporation in NYC while meeting with the President either before or after.

Does not sound as if he is going to DC to roll up his sleeves and work on a bill. Its got me shaking my head and wondering about the guys health. He looks sick.

Poor guy.
That's how it gets when you're well past 50, and you're body's exhausted, man.

He's so tired, it makes me tired to look at him sometimes. His schedule must be grueling at times. Why in the world would he want to even bother with being president?

Sometimes I bet he hopes he doesn't win, after all, so all this can just be over with.

Which is why he's dangerous! He doesn't listen -- to himself, to rational thought. He drives forward recklessly and impulsively. NOT what we want in a POTUS.

Must be his constant blinking which makes people think that it happens whenever he lies.

Unless he is lying, of course.

OMG! I was wondering the same thing today!

Mini-strokes can cause this sort of thing. My wife pointed this out to me today and she was saying that it looks like the entire side of his face is off, not just the eye. Maybe that is why he is crying no-mas about the debate. Could also explain the erratic behavior.

I'm no doctor but this seems odd to me.

The left eye problem is all a part of the on going issue of McCain's medical condition and the need for a thorough review of his medical records. It is apparent that the McCain campaign wants to obfuscate the medical record, and now, with the new makeover, obfuscate something about his increasingly ghostly demeanor. I have noted that he moves very stiffly and that his face is increasingly mask-like. I have wondered if he has Parkinson's disease. Then there is the issue of dementia. The medical community needs to make a major push on this. I would like to see a full page add signed by a few thousand prominent physicians run the WSJ, NYT and Wash. Post. asking for full disclosure. Make it an issue McCain and his campaign can't duck any longer.

The stuff starts happening in your fifties. On top of that, this guy has had a rough ride. I go with stroke.

I am amazed at you mentioning this. My wife and I were only a few minutes ago discussing the very same thing - and something else too. The blink has been there some time, but it has deteriorated lately - it is, as you say, out of phase, but it has also become more rapid lately. It comes in volleys and then dies down. The something else is his nose. Look at any piece of film from the past few days, and you'll see that the left hand side of his nose is heavily made up, and matted heavily to diminish what seems to be a swelling. I hope McCain is soundly beaten in this campaign, but I wish him good health so that he will be able to shake Barack Obama's hand when the time comes for him to admit defeat.

I guess, but my first impression was stroke.

McCain's eye has been bothering him for a while now. He is constantly rubbing it and blinking. The other day when he did the press conference, it looked discolored, kinda like he has a cataract (sp?). My dad's eye looks like that and that is his problem along with Glycoma.
