I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Palin

Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, admitting that until recently she was a vocal supporter of Sarah Palin, now says the vice presidential nominee should bow out:

Some of the passionately feminist critics of Palin who attacked her personally deserved some of the backlash they received. But circumstances have changed since Palin was introduced as just a hockey mom with lipstick -- what a difference a financial crisis makes -- and a more complicated picture has emerged.

As we've seen and heard more from John McCain's running mate, it is increasingly clear that Palin is a problem. Quick study or not, she doesn't know enough about economics and foreign policy to make Americans comfortable with a President Palin should conditions warrant her promotion.

Parker says her turnaround came from watching Palin in interview. Like other critics, she wasn't impressed:

Palin's recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I've been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I've also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there's not much content there.

It's so bad, Parker says, that Palin should quit the race:

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Read the whole thing.

McCain's campaign needed a transfusion but, in Palin, he opted for a reflexive shot gun fix which, like his
impulsive behavior in other arenas, will probably cost him the election. Were Palin to bow out now, perhaps Mitt Romney as VP could salvage some credibility in the McCain campaign.

Some people think Sarah Palin has been sent from God to save our nation. So we now have a savior straight from God via the Alkan highway. I suppose we should all say a solemn prayer thanking Him for our deliverance from evil. Surely Sarah's goodness and mercy will help lead us not into temptation. I expect she will also provide plenty of moose burgers, caribou steaks and fried mountain oysters for the needy and the homeless, and contraception advice for our teenage daughters. Perhaps she might even advise our city and county administrators as to which books should be removed from the shelves of libraries all over the US of A.

The phrase "A heartbeat away" is a scary thought indeed.

Why is nobody saying what is so obvious (or maybe someone did and I missed it)? Rove put Palin on the ticket to bring in the evangelical votes but the plan is to dump her somewhere between Nov 4 and INauguration Day! She was never intended to serve as VP for one second. They figure they can stall and keep her in a bubble and maybe cheat their way through the VP debate and hang on until the election (god forbid the Rethugs win) , and then she gets sent home to Alaska (resigning for personal reasons haveing to do with Trig's needs or some manufactured crisis with one of her kids) with some lovely parting gifts and a lot of cash/pork/sweetheart deals etc etc. The evangelicals are being played for suckers.

So true!! I agree this was the plan all along. And the so called christian right seems to be just fine with the idea too.

I've always thought this was the perfect 'razzle dazzle' move the McCain campaign would play. But how could he explain away the judgement issue- that is that he/his party had the horrible judgement to throw her in the ring in the first place?

But then who will they choose? Pawley said he feels like McCain used him. Romney was never in the VP run.

The more she talks, the more Obama/Biden pulls ahead. Biden is going to CRUSH her in the debate. In fact, I hope that they are working with him to help him show some restraint. No need to make her look like a victim of an evil, bigoted (albeit infinitely more qualified) man. I'm absolutely tickled by the girl from Wasilla!

I can't believe a Republican finally admitted to what the rest of us are seeing!!!! Someone needs to let Elizabeth Hasslebeck in on it too. Today she said it was "who hates Palin" on the View. WTH??

a concession from Parker, the right wing writer, should give McCain an opportunity to think about what he has done to America--you can't change the constitution if something happened to McCain and there she is!!!!!

The Palin choice was/is politically cynical. McCain needs her to shore up the base, maybe get some women. Is it possible that he drop her after getting elected? I don't think McCain would have much use for her after the election. Then he'd go for Lieberman or Pawlenty as VP replacement. A shame that him and Hagel fell out.

This was exactly my take on the day he picked her. I saw such a plan as typically "Rove-ian" in its cynicism and motivation. Now, I hope McCain holds on to her. She's definitely pulling him down. I know! It's hard to believe, isn't it? I think that if she's forced to bow out, it will be in the week or two before the election. Replacing her would almost certainly give McCain a bump in the polls.

I doubt Palin will bail. Pappy McSame is too stubborn. A change in course just may doom pappy though.

Obama is the one who should have picked Hillary. Biden has made more mistakes in the last several weeks and he is a "seasoned Senator"!

Biden has done some brilliant stumping among blue collar folks who could care less about a few slips. His analysis and responce after the debate was on the mark and believeable. Palin is so bad they could not have her do the McCain resonse and had to use Toothy Rudy who is so full of himself he can hardly contain it.

Biden is the REAL deal though. An honest , hard working man who will do what's best for the people. I lived in DE once and needed his office's assistance. It was done the next day!!!

Have you seen how Bill Clinton can barely get Obama off his tongue? Even said on the View he's no longer in politics; he's into his charity. I don't know if it's a combination of seething over his wife's loss or Obama's soring popularity. That's why Hillary was not chosen. She's a great woman and all but the baggage called Bill Clinton, comes with her. No thanks. Obama would've been getting two instead of one.

Maybe it was Sarah without lipstick... I couldn't tell... if it was a woman, it sure was one ugly woman... kind of looked like Rudy Giuliani !
