Late Night

Late night jokes took center stage this week, with David Letterman going all out against John McCain and Craig Ferguson railing against McCain for suspending the democratic process.

But there was still more to enjoy. Both Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno joked about McCain — Kimmel hits him on his age, Leno on his sinking poll numbers, while Stephen Colbert, Conan O'Brien, and Jon Stewart all laughed at Sarah Palin (Colbert about hunting, Conan about Alaska's minority population, and Stewart on her New York trip and her kids' names). That, and more Great Moments in Presidential Speeches from David Letterman, below:

McCain and Palin are masquerading as The Lone Ranger and his parrot. This duo has to be one of the saddest Presidential tickets in American history. McCain can't remember how many houses he owns and keeps promoting the idea that bayonets are better than negotiating. He admits he knows little about economics while proclaiming he can solving the economic mess which he claims was caused by greed. Somebody should remind him that the capitalistic system is based on greed.

And Palin, what can you say about her that hasn't already come through her own lipstick? She has implied that the only difference between a pit bull and herself is lipstick. Does that mean she has the I.Q. of a pit bull? She is clueless, uninformed, dishonest, and inarticulate, but still claims she is qualified to be President if McCain drops over. Be careful, she is really Richard Nixon in a skirt. Talk about taking a jump into the unknown!!!

Don't insult the poor misunderstood Pit Bull breed they are much smarter than Palin... they are also loving, loyal, and non judgemental, something the witch hunter from the north is not..

Don't insult Richard Nixon that way either. If nothing else he was smart and articulate when he needed to be. He was also more liberal than her.

What an insult to Richard Nixon! Nixon was FAR smarter and articulate than her, opened up China (both good and bad thing - mostly good, I think), founded the Environmental Protection Agency, enacted (both pushed for and signed) both the Clean Air act and the Clean Water act... Sarah Palin is no Nixon!

Plus after about 2 years of deep Soul searching, Former President Nixon said he was wrong to have believed because He Loved his Nation, that made right what he did... I admire his deep pondering and acknowledgement of his doing wrong... That actually takes a strong person to do so... Especially to one's Nation...

I doubt G W Bush will ever "get that" and likely, quite unlike Nixon, will ever even ponder that concept... Palin, obviously, like Bush/ McCain believes She will only ever do "Right" and "God's Will" for our Nation...

Well he was a paranoid, racist liar who was pretty non-discriminant about all the folks he hated. Kind of funny he maintained an enemy list and was finally taken down by his own paranoid coverup. In that regard he has some characteristics in common with Sarah Plain and Small Minded.

That said I just could never imagine her doing any of the things he actually accomplished as president. Not one. He wasn't a stupid person, which she is.

Look, I was alive when Nixon was President and I used to think he was the worst President possible. But after Bush I find myself waxing nostalgic about him. He did, after all, create the EPA. Palin would be worse than Bush and Nixon put together. Today, Nixon couldn't get elected because he would be too liberal for the Republican Party.

----------
Palin - only two letters different than Stalin! and she lives near Russia! Coincidence?

I,too, have often said that I used to think Nixon was the worst, most power-mad,most paranoid president I could possibly see in my lifetime.Now---there's Shrub and Darth---those two make Nixon-Agnew look like servants of the people. How is it that W cannot get out of his own way,and yet he has been allowed to do so much damage to all the systems that make us Americans and not a third-world-country?He succeeded at NOTHING during his life, except gathering all the power from the other branches of our "democratic" system. I'm beginning to think that the damage he and the neocons have done cannot be overcome.

I have to agree that Nixon had far more intelligence than her. Watergate was a very stupid mistake but most of his other doings had great affects for the long term state of the world, particularly relations with China. He was more dishonest, wheras her "dishonesty" comes from her having to be a conservative hack and trying to look like she knows what she is talking about when it is obvious she does not. Even Kathleen Parker the conservative columnist from the Orlando Sentinel has now called for Palin to step down.

To correctly translate Obama's infamous statement that the GOP blew way out of proportion, Palin is the lipstick on the pig that is the McCain campaign. And as one of the signs from the Anchorage anti-Palin rally read, "Don't Insult My Pitbull."

What people should be blogging about is not Sara Palin's incompetence but about her being abused by John McCain and the GOP.

The religious wakcos like Dobson and Perkins are probably even more guilty than McCain as they were the moving force behind McCain's choice. But then again people like Dobson and Perkins have made a career out of exploiting people so foisting Sara upon the public is just common practise for these two agents of intorlerance.

As far as jokes go the comedy shows have their material written on a daily basis through GOP lies and distortion so all they have to do is play video clips of McCain/Bush as the material is ready made.

But yeah Johs Stewart does just what you say: Play Repub. clips, THEN and NOW..... Couldn't be funnier.

Jokes are not made about Obama becasue he is taking all this seriously unlike McCain who just wants the presidency as another notch on his belt.....in the same way he wants Palin as another notch on his belt....you see....McCain makes it too easy to make jokes. Sad thing is that Obama probably has a much beter sense of humor than McCain.

Let's ALL agree that John McPalin has NO sense of humor at all - whoops - UNLESS you want to count his RAUNCHY remarks that he tries to pass-off as jokes and - let us ALL remember The-Great-Women's-Liberator-McSexist calling his current wife: "a C**T"! Now THAT'S really funny - isn't it?

"HILARIOUS CONSERVATIVE MAVERICK" . . . whoops again . . . oxymoron just uttered . . .

there is nothing funny about what is going on in the US, which Obama is taking seriously and has serious plans to start getting us out of it...I think in another article someone, I think a writer for Letterman, said that it's hard to make jokes about Obama because there is nothing "buffoonish" about him...the GOP is full of buffoons so the jokes pretty much write themselves.

Letterman may be partial to Obama but he is not in the tank for anyone. Comedians go where the jokes are, and uh, in this election, not too much doubt about where that is.
In the last election, Leno ridiculed Kerry every night and went really easy on Bush. Now even Leno sees McCain Palin as providing material just too good to pass on.
Personally, I think jokes are ok and yes, we all need to laugh, but the reality is, McCain could win and then die, and Palin would be president. That is no laughing metter. How could McCain make such a horrific choice? What does it say about his judgment?

If you had told me that there was a politician that would make George Bush sound like Mark Tawain, Ronald Regan, or Bill Clinton I would have called you a liar (amongst other things). Enter Sarah Palin. It actually hurt my head trying to figure out what lie she was trying to get out. I was like she just put together a whole lot of unrelated talking points.

Q. Why does living in Alaska give you international experiance

A: "Take the war to them" "Thousand Points of Light" "Shinning City on the Hill" "No Child left Behind".

The worst part is that they could never make a roudup of jokes about Obama. I watched Letterman last night and there was not one single joke about Obama. Is Dave in the tank for Obama or is he too scared to poke fun at a black man?
