Sarah Palin

As the New York Times reported before Friday night's debate, Sarah Palin would not be providing post-debate spin for John McCain on the major TV networks:

After Barack Obama and John McCain stop talking on the debate stage Friday night, their surrogates will start spinning. But one high-profile supporter of Mr. McCain will be missing: his running mate Sarah Palin.[...]

Ms. Palin is scheduled to be at a debate-viewing event in Philadelphia, covered by a limited group of reporters, and she is not listed by any networks as a post-debate guest. On NBC and CBS, the former Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani will be commenting on the debate performances.

As The New Republic's Michael Crowley noted during the post-debate coverage, Palin's absence looked particularly awkward given the fact that Joe Biden was appearing all over the place:

Amusing moment on CNN just now. Wolf Blitzer, coming out of a commercial:

"We've been getting some emails from views out there wondering why we spent some time interviewing Joe Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee and not Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee. We would have loved to interview--we'd still love to interview Sarah Palin. Unfortunately we asked, we didn't get that interview...We're hoping that Sarah Palin will join us at some point down the road."

I'm told that Biden appeared on every major network tonight except ABC (which only turned him down because Palin wasn't available, on an equal-time sort of basis).

It's pretty strange when a candidate can't trust his own running mate to be out there spinning on his behalf.

Y'know, Joe Biden may make his share of gaffes, but at least he's out there, making himself available to just about anybody with a question.

Does Palin think she can "run out the clock" on this election, hide like a chicken and not face any sort of scrutiny? Does she honestly think that Margaret Thatcher, Angela Merkel, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Elizabeth Dole, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Clair McCaskel, Patty Murray and Hillary Clinton (and the thousands of other successful women in politics worldwide) got where they are (or were) by avoiding the press and refusing to answer questions (even stupid irrelevant ones) EVERY CHANCE THEY WERE GIVEN?

In a democracy the people have a right to ask legitimate questions concerning policy, temperament, judgment, preparedness. And we have every right to expect honest answers. Nobody should be willing to gamble on what's behind Door #?.

And, not to sound sexist or anything, but wasn't is Hillary Clinton who said "if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen?"

tHAT IS WHAT I CALL SEXISM...NOT PAYING WOMEN THE PAY SHE DESERVE AND NOT ALLOWING HER TO BE HER OWN SELF...THIS SHOWS THE KIND OF JUDGMENT MCCAIN WILL BE MAKING IN THE NEXT 4 YEARS IF HE BECOMES THE PRESIDENT!

NOT TO MENTION HE MAY NOT MAKE IT THE FULL TERM AND BE REPLACED BY PALIN WHO WE DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT AS SHE HAS BEEN SEQUESTERED.

It's just weird. Where is the transparency? The accessibility? Palin is like McCain's dirty little secret.

I agree, let her talk MORE, as she is too ignorant for words. If this is the kind of decisions McCain makes, he need to go home and sit in his rocking chair, where he belongs............................................

The muzzle is on Palin because she is out of the race.

By thursday of this next week, she'll announce that family commitments are more important. This will happen, you read it here first.

There is no way McCain will allow her to make a fool of herself in front of 200 million people attempting to spar with seasoned Joe Biden.

You cannot make-up experience in 3 weeks to compare with Bidens 25+ years. McCain will loose the race immediately. She is now a liability to his campaign... that's the reason for the muzzle.

The delay last week was to allow McCain to quickly search and vet and prepare a new VP.

I hope very much its his buddy, Joe Lieberman. He will loose for sure with that ticket.

"The delay last week was to allow McCain to quickly search and vet and prepare a new VP"

Curious: as a point of Republican Party by-laws, can the VP be replaced without convening another convention? Doesn't their rank-and-file deserve a chance to select and/or approve?

Anyone know the answer?

We're talking Republicans here - they'll cheat. If I'm Biden, I want Palin frisked for a wire before that debate. They'll do whatever they have to do to keep her from having to form so much as a single sentence on her own. Afterwards, they'll lock her up and throw away the key until after the election.

Admiral Stockdale's family is so very excited about Sarah Palin and the VP debate.
Finally, the Vice Admiral will be off the hook for the worst ever, ever, ever, I know you are but what am I, infinity, he's looking at me, worse VP selection in history!!
She'll make Perot's poor old running mate look brilliantly prepared to be one heartbeat away!

Maybe we should all email Gwen Ifill with questions for Palin and strongly suggest that they check her for wires or listening devices before the debate. Does anyone have an email address for Ifill? Please post it if you do.

McCain cannot think that experience is important if he chose Sarah Palin to take his place if God forbid, he cannot finish his term.

Or

He does not care what happens to the USA.

McCain was not thinking country first. Plain and simple. It is more than lack of experience. She is an incoherent airhead.
Give her a prepared speech and she is fine (I don't agree with any of her politics or anything, but many people said she was fine at the convention. I even know some democrats who were impressed with her - women because they appreciated having a woman on the ticket and men because she is good-looking). But ask her questions and she just spouts drivel. Incoherent drivel.
McCain selected her because he could not get his way (LIEberman or Ridge because they are pro-choice) so he was hoping to get the disenchanted Hillary supporters (which is a joke because anyone who voted for her on the issues cannot vote for this piece of crap) and then there was the neo-con base that this airhead represents.
This airhead who had her priest laying hands on her 3 years ago praying that God make her governor. This same priest who was hunting witches in Kenya. Why isn't this all over the media?
She is a joke. But she is a scary joke, because this country voted Bushit in TWICE. Sure, the elections were stolen but they NEVER should have been close enough to be stolen.

Everyone make sure you are registered to vote. I am hearing horror stories of people who had thought they were registered and finding out they are not.

Vote Obama/Biden - put country first!
