Heather Locklear Arrested For DUI In Montecito

MONTECITO, Calif. — Heather Locklear was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance in the upscale Santa Barbara area, authorities said Sunday.

Locklear, 47, was pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer Saturday afternoon after a resident reported seeing the actress leaving a parking lot and "driving erratically," patrol spokesman Tom Marshall said.

The officer noticed Locklear's car parked on a state highway and blocking a lane in Montecito, a wealthy community about 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles. She was believed to be alone in the car, Marshall said.

"In talking with her, (the officer) determines that she seems to be under the influence of something," Marshall said.

Locklear was taken to the police station, where she was tested for alcohol and drugs. She was booked at 7 p.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication. She was later released from custody.

Calls to Locklear's publicists were not immediately returned.

Locklear's TV credits include "T.J. Hooker," "Dynasty," "Melrose Place" and "Spin City," and her film roles include "The Perfect Man" and "Uptown Girls."

Locklear checked into a medical clinic in June to seek treatment for anxiety and depression.

Last year, she got a divorce from Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora after 11 years of marriage. They have a daughter, Ava Elizabeth.

Clearly she has a problem and I hope for her daughter's sake and her own she gets help. I don't drink alcohol but my choice is due to the fact I've lost 5 friends to drunk drivers over the years. My women friends who drink alcohol on a regular basis look older than their same age counterparts (wrinkles, puffy skin). Some of them are alcoholics. A few are dealing with it (AA) and some are in denial. The difference in looks became noticeable in their 40s. In some shots of Ms. Locklear she's exhibiting the same physical symptoms. Whether she's an alcoholic or not, I don't know, but I hope this DUI serves as a wake up call to her and isn't the start of a pattern of alcohol abuse. Having grown up with 2 alcoholic stepfathers, I can tell you firsthand it's no fun for the children involved with them. My thoughts and prayers go out to the daughter.

Sh'es one year younger than me...she's recently divorced, treated recently for depression and anxiety, probably menopausal and it's sunday...h­mm, wonder why she was alone. When you have depression, it doesn't go away overnight. The doctor(s) probably gave her some pills and she could have had a bad reaction to them. Not all happy pills make you happy, just more depressed and unable to think clearly. Too bad, she choose to drive, but maybe she had no other choice or the reaction struck her too quickly. Wasn't she parked on the side of the road. Obviously, she had some wits about herself. Just because she's 'rich', doesn't mean that someone will be there for her 24/7. Show some compassion people. Depression is an illness and obviously, she's not coping. Getting arrested and released was probably more tramatic than a divorce to her. Heather, hang in there. It will get better.

Thanks, it is through reading comments here that I find hope in a world with plenty of signs of hopelessness.

If I were to analyze what (I think) she is going through I would say divorce can be life altering, self-esteem shattering, and present a long and winding road to recovery, especially in cases where there was genuine love versus the "if it does not work out we can always get divorced" kind of love.

"We all still love you" -- yes, but she needs to love and find herself and that eclipses celebrity, money, and everything else. That is the fierce urgency of her now.
