Barney Frank Mocks GOP: "Because Somebody Hurt Their Feelings, They Decide To Punish The Country"

I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Barney Frank

So the Republicans are saying they lost the vote because Nancy Pelosi gave a speech that offended twelve of their members.

Well Barney Frank has an offer for them:

Give me those twelve people's names, and I will go talk uncharacteristically nicely to them, and tell them what wonderful people they are, and maybe they'll think about the country.

Here's video of the Republicans whining about Pelosi, and of Frank telling them to grow up:

No Barney Frank - the American people who were not falling for this corporate welfare scheme are why the plan failed. They pressured their elected reps. Plenty of economists would like to see a far more thoughtful and measured approach. But the Bush admin does not do thoughtful- and now neither do the Dems who follow the Bush regime.

Why do republicans hate Americans?

Hmm . . . take the medicine now or take it later . . . considering this bill is supported by only like 10% of the people that out these people in office, it's about time DC listens.

Sure, the politicians should just sign all the citizens on to a corporate welfare scheme to assume up to 700 billion dollars in bad loans. That really would show the taxpayers a lot of love;) You have a warped definition of hate.

May I ask why we are still listening to the Dodds and Franks of the Congress? These guys have been supporting Fannie & Freddie as their "affordable housing" tool for years.

Well said Mr. Frank! Well, we could have done it, but Nancy upset us. Oh man, the pubs are the biggest babies in the world.

They get there because people vote for them. It astonishes me how people seem to forget that these "public servants" are given the job by the voting public. Perhaps this whole debaucle will convince more people to take their civic responsibility seriously and get out there and VOTE!!!!!

“I’m very disappointed,” House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., said in a statement after the vote. “The Republicans killed this.”

No Daffy Duck...90 Democrats voted wisely and rejected this Wall Street buyout and these Democrats were joined by a group of gutsy Republicans who voted with the wishes of Main Street, not of the Special Interests in Wall Street that fund a lot of these senators year to year.

It is time to let the market correct the past few years of fluff that Repubs and Democrats have allowed to go on while their own stocks grew and their contributions grew.

Those who are against this bill clearly do not understand economics in this country. Yes, this is the last thing anyone wants to do. However, we are at a point where something has to be done. The regular people will be potentially radically affected by this not passing, here's why:
Your money is not sitting in a vault somewhere, it is mobile. Your bank uses it to back other investments, which in turn uses it to back their investments, etc. The bad loans and over-borrowing by banks to cover them have caused a slow down in credit from one bank to another, in other words, they are no longer lending to each other. This halts the mobility of your money. When your money isn't running around the system, you cannot access all of it. Most individuals have some spare cash on hand, but businesses don't. Once they run out of free cash, they cannot make payroll and cannot pay their employees, who are then laid off. It's like that Visa commercial where everything is moving right along smoothly and efficiently until the guy tries to use cash and the whole things stops. And make no mistake, the rich CEO's will be fine either way. As usual, it will be the "little guy", or the retiree, or the parents getting ready to send a kid to college, who will be affected.

A great quote that is ringing true:

"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."

- Benjamin Franklin

Ben left out business but he hit the nail on the head, once people/businesses find out they can vote themselves money, we are screwed.

McCain supported the bill also,he not only supported the bill,he put his reputation on the line as a bi-partisan maverick to get it passed even at the cost of the suspension of his campaign.

Well, while Republicans are whining, my meager retirement account is disappearing. And, several representatives from both parties voted the bill down because they were afraid of losing an election. I thought the mantra going around was country first. Don't know the inside facts, but it appears that John McCain started the whole negative, partisan feeling by the big show of suspending his campaign. Total dismay and financial insecurity are my feelings.

You tell 'em, Barney!!

That being said, I do think that maybe this bill should be reworked a little - step back, tweak here and there (I don't want to sound "Palinish", but I don't want to go on too long on this post) - i.e., more FBI involvement/investigation, etc. I feel that some form of the bill will pass soon.

HOWEVER, this "OUR feelings were hurt" is so childish, it's beyond belief. Don't these Repubs have the ba**s to come out and say why they REALLY didn't vote for it? NPR interviewed a R-Rep from Illinois this afternoon, and she gave her reasons why she voted against the bill. I may, or may not, disagree with her, but at least she had the honesty to state her reasons why.

These 12 or so hurt-feelings Reps should have their names in print, and should be either voted out of office, or run out of office. If this rendition happens to not be a true one, the Reps who statedf this on this video should be voted/run out of office.

yeah...so the republicans killed the bailout because of nancy pelosi's speech FOR the bailout which only mentioned the republicans once TO THANK THEM??? I'm sure it had nothing to do with the 100's of speeches today from both republicans and democrats AGAINST the bailout...do you think maybe that had more influence on any undecided republicans...huh...huh??? or maybe it was the fact that the republican's didn't want it to pass in the first place.

but republicans come up with this ridiculous spin that it was pelosi's speech that killed what...what bald-faced liars they are...

spin spin spin...

On one hand, we have a bunch of supposedly knowledgeable lawmakers telling us we'll find ourselves in the worst economic situation in our history if the bill doesn't get passed. But I have yet to hear in detail what exactly do they mean. Will all companies go bankrupt and we'll all be out of a job? I don't know. On the other hand, we have a bunch of petty, childish Republican "leaders" who resorted to this deplorable behavior instead of detailing what exactly they would have liked to see in the bill. Either way, the ever-diminishing middle class are the losers.

injected over $600 billion into the market... That's right just today... And how much did that help the market... So almost $1 trillion given the the finacial markets in just the last week...

And $600 billion over the weekend was allocated just to keep the US Government running for about 8 months. The huge bill passed quietly over the weekend.

Count up the costs! The Bailout is a smoke screen. Cash is not the issue.

If you haven't already, you MUST learn about the root cause to the financial crisis we are facing... By doing a search of - derivative collapse and credit default swaps...
Search these terms on the internet, do the research and understand what is happening and how we have been sold out by the bush admin and wall street.

Get ready for your life to drastically change.

I do think that the bill should not have passed in its present form.
That money came from the wages of working Americans and should go back into their pockets to reinvest in the real economy, goods and services.

I don't think the Repocons have any such intention, but at least any bill now passed will hopefully be less Paulson/Bush Shock and Awe and a more fairly applied measure.

The bill today however failed becasue the Bush Repocons couldn't muster their own members. That 's not Pelosi's failure. Her failure is in betraying the interests of the taxpayers.
