Barney Frank Mocks GOP: "Because Somebody Hurt Their Feelings, They Decide To Punish The Country"

Barney Frank

So the Republicans are saying they lost the vote because Nancy Pelosi gave a speech that offended twelve of their members.

Well Barney Frank has an offer for them:

Give me those twelve people's names, and I will go talk uncharacteristically nicely to them, and tell them what wonderful people they are, and maybe they'll think about the country.

Here's video of the Republicans whining about Pelosi, and of Frank telling them to grow up:

So, this is a huge opportunity for Dems in Congress. Write the bill YOU want, relief for middle class taxpayers and mortgage holders, 95% retroactive tax rate on wall street CEOs, restoration of controls and transparency regulations on wall street and banks. Go for it. Make the repubs look really stupid and actually do something positive for the country. Go ahead and let bush veto and it'll be the end of the republican party.

I agree don't take the deal as is. The repubs have unwittingly given them cover to start over.

Roosevelt -

Anything that happens in politics was not an accident. If it happens, it was intended.

BTW, I called the crash last night.

I haven't heard the entire Pelosi speech, but from what I did hear, she was merely assigning the blame for the current crisis to Republican policies. Can there be any real doubt that this is true?

Republicans don't deal with reality, only with what they WISH would be the case. Put them in charge, and look what happens. They're not so high and mighty, are they?

Yea it is clear they just wanted to make dems look bad and were "playing politics" instead of doing their jobs.

Though, I suppose it is possible repubs are just THAT childish.

I read the transcript, and I agree with that assessment, knighthowl. Other than specifically assigning the 'final failure' to the Bu$h Administration (rightfully so, IMO), there was NO attack on the 'Publican't Party - it seems more a convenient excuse to attempt further extortion of Americans by the Neo-Cons..! ;) ...

note to Barney Frank - wall street is not the country! wall street is not the country. wall street is not the country.
The govnerment could take half that amount and do some great stuff for a lot more poeple by building houses and creating jobs and going into a green economy - Instead of rewarding the fat cats of wall street who, frankly, ran a very risky operation. Consequences. You run a risk and you lose. you loose. This has been stupidity and greed run amuck.
Lets use our brains and spend that money so it helps real folks.

It was obviously an intended political speech by Pelosi, so to cry about backlash is funny. Why didn't she save that speech for AFTER the vote? Did she think it was a rallying call? This was nothing but a very transparent political manuever. Problem for her is that she is handcuffed to this bill, and it's failure has her face all over it.
Now all FOX news (the #1 rated news show by far) will have to do is tell it's millions of viewers how Pelosi "poisoned" the deal. Doesn't have to be true, to stick, eh? Just say it enough times...
While Barney Frank races to the drama with his panties in a twist, maybe he should stop and actually listen to the citizens that got him elected.

yeah, you know there is never any finger pointing or bad mouthing involved in politics, it was completely unforeseeable that Pelosi would do such a thing. Poor babies, their ego crushed and they can't go on anymore.

Yeah but Fox news is only preaching to the choir. Just like talk radio. The fox ratings are bigger because every right-winger in the country with cable watches the same programming. Everyone else is split between ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, & MSNBC, Seems as though McCain jumped in Friday with a big dose of his own poison first. Yes Pelosi is tied to the bill, She's the Leader of the House. If she did not put forth legislation your pink thong would be twisted around your Prada neckwrap. When a bill passes, will you give her credit?

A$$gash,
politics are supposed to be about making the OTHER guy look bad, I'm afraid. That's what it's degenerated to. She decided to play the game at that crucial juncture. It's a little late for her to try and squeeze her wrinkled neck from the noose, don't you think?
If she passes a good bill, she'll get credit...but only history will tell. Forgive me of being skeptical for any resolution this bunch will come with.

does it matter?

What does all that have to do with voting on the Bill. Lets say Polosi spoke out of turn and insulted the republicans, what does that have to do with the legislation that both parties agreed to. What does that have top do with solving the financial crisis? What does it have to do with anything in regards to the every day American who this bill is attempting to protect from financial ruin?

If it's a good bill vote for it, if it's a bad bill don't vote for it but for Gods sake don't vote against a bill because the other guys hurt your feelings. This is congress not kindergarten!

I propose a bailout for the Republicans' self esteem so that they can get back to negotiating for that other bailout, you know the one that does not matter much to the Reps.

Well, more Republicans voted "No" on this than 'Yes' -- are they punishing Americans like how Barney likes to think, or is it because the Republicans don't want to "bail out the wealthy"?

NO, they don't want to help Americans. They want to bankrupt this country so "entitlements" will no longer be an issue. Then they don't have to use 'ugly' democracy to change things fairly. The neo-cons and MANY Failure Party members are ANTI-AMERICAN, plain and simple.

Seems simple enough. It was Bush's bill (and Paulsen's, and Bernanke's, etc.). They should have been able to deliver at least 50% of their constituents in the House!

Blame Nancy and Barney...they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Nancy's speech before the vote was inane....insult the people you expect to support you. How sad the first woman speaker had to be her.

While it might not have been the real reason the vote lost, Pelosi showed NO leadership, no skills, no intelligence with her absurd and inappropriate speech.

Gee, all she needed was 10 more votes from the Obama Party.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:29 PM on 09/29/2008

Oh grow up. The repubs are trying to assign blame for the failure to pass a bill that they themselves wouldn't vote for? Because someone said (CORRECTLY) that their party couldn't run a church bake sale without financial scandal and incompetence? If you didn't want to vote for the bill, just say so - stop whining about the fact that someone called you names!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:38 PM on 09/29/2008

If the Reps want to bring in McCain to negotiate with the 12 and then - abracadabra! - have a settlement so that McCain can play the hero, I'll puke.
