Still Lying: Top McCain Aide Claims McCain Urged Firing Rumsfeld

Sunday morning on Meet The Press, McCain chief strategist Steve Schmidt trotted out one of John McCain's tired old lies, the false claim that McCain had urged President Bush to fire Donald Rumsfeld.

The truth is that John McCain never urged Bush to fire Rumsfeld, nor did he call for his resignation.

Earlier this year, McCain aide Brian Rogers told the Washington Post:

"He did not call for his resignation," said the campaign's Brian Rogers. "He always said that's the president's prerogative."

Although McCain did distance himself from Rumsfeld towards the end of Rumsfeld's tenure, McCain has also heaped praise on him, saying that Rumsfeld and Cheney formed "the strongest" national security team in American history.

Here's video of Schmidt's lie, and of McCain standing by Rumsfeld:

"McCain has also heaped praise on him, saying that Rumsfeld and Cheney formed "the strongest" national security team in American history."
What a crock. All they have succeeded in doing is increasing the threat, with their 'John Wayne' mentality.
Both should be held accountable for their actions.

Heh! If John McCain ever dreamed of firing Rumsfeld he would have awoke and apologised!

What I get tired of is this band of McCain surrogates going on every TV program, every day and spouting one lie after another and the media never calling them on the lies. The on and off button on my TV is worn out because when they come on, I turn them off.

As Barack said of McCain: He only wants to talk about the surge and he forgets, or hopes we forget, that McCain was out in front of the neocons calling for the Iraq War in 2003. Just as he wants to bomb Iran and confront Russia. Fool that he is !

Just as the merry band of Bushies will keep lying until old W becomes a frigging SAINT like Reagan, the McCain supporters will keep on lying to retain power and wealth.

AND THE DAMN MEDIA will do nothing except what their corporate owners tell them to do.

This is the GOP's familial decease that leads to the abhorrence of truth.
As for the patriotism, GOP's main concern is offshore accounts. Multinational corporations are the GOP's masters. After Decider's machinations, the US is in a pockets of China, Emirates, and - surprise! - Russia.

Isn't Schmidt the guy Olbermann said he wouldn't have on anymore, and was audibly saying "get rid of him" when another MSNBC host had him on during one of the conventions? Right again, Keith O.

Are you guys genuinely surprised to learn this?! Cm'on!

John McCain, however Maverick he likes to call himself, is an obedient sheep in the GOP herd. He would *never* dare to voice any concerns against any guy who's got big boss's favors. When McCain demands somebody's head, it's only because the guy's already been killed.

He howls with the wolves and sings with the choir.

I thought I had heard McCain himself say he had recommended the firing of Rumsfield.

I keep thinking that this video would be so effective if you could just get people to see it.
The contrast between Schmidts lying statement and McCains actual words is pretty dramatic.

I dub thee the new McPinnokio Campaign. I swear, the lies that come from this camp is sick. If our children behaved in such a manner we would hopefully take everything away from them, ground them, and restrict them to their rooms.
This is the worst I have ever seen. Every day, there seems to be a minimum of at least two to three out right lies coming from the McCain Camp. These guys have no moral value or ethics, a true example of everything we do not want from our children and most of all from a politician. I am extreemly hopeful our children will not see this and decide that if a presidential candidate can get away with it, they should be able to do the same.

Sarah Palin would be an excellent choice for VP compared to that arrogant Rumsfield who single handedly overroad the U.S. military advice on the post-war Iraq policy of which there was effectively none. Rumsfield and Cheney were the chief architects of the Iraq War national disaster and McCain wanted him as VP? The voting public should be reminded of McCain's first VP choice on adds throughout the States.
