AP Reported this morning on the damage the failed bailout bill has done to John McCain's campaign:
Republican John McCain has maneuvered himself into a political dead end and has five weeks to find his way out.

Last Wednesday, McCain suspended his presidential campaign to insert himself into a $700 billion effort to rescue America's crumbling financial structure. In so doing, he tied himself far more tightly to the bill than did his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama.

See below for the "Real Time Electoral Vote Predictor" that shows how badly the recent economic news is affecting John McCain's campaign. Click here to link to the map and the electoral vote predictor.

How about this headline---Obama Votes Yes For $700 Billion Taxpayer Bailout of Wall Street, Says Good Bye To His Agenda.

He did say he would look it over AFTER he becomes prez. Yo, Obama, it aint going to miraculously change once you are in office! Also, once the deal is done, it is done. You would look the fool should you try to undo it---the stock market will take a tumble and Congress will say NO.

Either Obama is completely clueless as to what this $700 billion bailout will do to his middle class tax cuts, investment in infrastructure, expanded health care initiatives or he is in on the game and is just pulling the wool over our eyes. Since tons of people say he is intelligent, then "con artist" looks like the label that fits him.

The Bush/Dem bailout bill is poised to pass in the Senate. Not only does it rely on taxpayers' trillion (for now), but doesn't address the real problem. Time to save Obama by calling them politicians and tell them to vote NO!

Relax ok...try to catch your breath....your rambling. I am sure Obama knows what this will do to his plan...he addressed that in the debate. He said that he would have to take certain things from other projects that he has. I mean good lord you were not worrying about having your health care when Bush decided to take us to war and spend 10 billion dollars a month on a war...instead of on America. I mean there is money out there....it is not being spent where it should.

It is a bit frustrating when people make these type of comments because all these years no one has been asking Bush about all the taxpayer money that he has been spending so recklessly over the last 8 years. Either you are completely clueless or you have been living under a rock for the last 8 years. Do not put this weight on Barak Obama...it is the failed Bush policies that will push our health care back a little bit...it's this stupid bailout that is necessary to keep the economy running....It will be Barak Obama that has to go in and clean up after this administration...you need to place the blame where it should be. Barak Obama has nothing to do with this mess.

I agree, Ofactor & Softnsweet. Sometimes I think I'm living in some twilight land & only I notice these things, because the Repubs & talk radio & fox & WSJ don't seem to. Bush came into a surplus and that didn't last long. The war in Iraq is almost $1 Trillion and FOR NO REASON AT ALL (well, oil. Expensive oil). He's expanded the government & its powers faster than any other president. Dept. of Homeland security, that does nothing but spread paranoia, eavesdrop on citizens, take 5 days to get water to New Orleans, and a "make work" program for Bush's friends, is $40 billion a year. Our total debt under Bush has risen from $5 Trillion to 9 Trillion. And about 4,000 pointless American deaths in a country that was not actively engaged in hostilities against America, and is once again falling apart. This is a small part of the Bush legacy.

Yes, let's have a president who takes a little time and thinks a bit, instead of relying on the word of an ex-Merril Lynch executive to give him $700 billion & he'll figure out the rest. I am agreeing more and more with Bill Maher -- Americans are too stupid to govern themselves.

Well Bush has been dismantling the Constituion for 8 years and its been around a lot longer than this bailout bill.....so once President Obama steps into office he will do as he sits fit....that scares me a lot less than "McCain-I-don't -understand- the- economy- and- i- dont- know- how- many- houses- i- have "

Thanks to Mcain -Bush Americans now don't have any houses to count...period.

McCain has less influence with the Senate than people realize--he has pulled the carpet from under many colleagues feet with his erratic behavior---the really sad picture is the useless President who has no influence in his own party--only the far right wing neo-cons stay with him--sad to end his Presidency so uninvolved and unpopular!

Very possible. McCain has found that now he is the spotlight...as he wanted...and has not handled well at all. His tangent reaches make him appear less stable than some of the more qualified candidates. The Neo Cons backed the wrong horse.

Right on. He has demonstrated that he can't lead his own party in Congress. They paid no more attention to McCain than they did to W. He must be even more bitter now.

Yes!!! Mccain, even backing Bush doesn't buy him any political capital with the Republicans.

Yes, the Republicans have s-h-i-t-t-e-d an fell back in it. The Party is backing a candidate for president that the Republican constituency doesn't want. Republicans are trying to hold their noses to pull the lever for McCain. If he can't convince the Republican House to vote bipartisan for the bailout, he most likely won't be able to convince them to do the same for any legislation that comes up. So much for being a maverick.

Glad that we don't have an Independent Party in reality. Independents seem to be so dumb that they would consider voting for McCain rather than vote for an African American.

The Democrats have the majority and control the US Senate and Congress. They easily pass this bill if they wanted to.

It seems as if Democrats are voting for political gains at the expense of the US economy and Americans. Many people in congress are up for elections come November. And, probably since President Bush proposed this rescue plan they do not want to support it.

The Democrat controlled congress has the lowest approval rating in US history, less than 9%. And, their support of the Community Reinvestment Act just encourages lenders to give low interest mortgages to unqualified people.

It seems as if Republicans in congress voted for ideological reasons and Democrats voted for Political gains.

Democrats, with the help of the media, has seem to successfully blamed this whole financial crisis on the rejection of the tax payer 'bail out' by the Republicans.

Democrats are playing politics. This is obvious with the polls spike in their favor. Do you concur?

Why should the Democrats who control the US congress be re-elected when their approval rating is currently less than 9%, the lowest in US History?

What have they done in the past couple of years that has actually helped Americans and our economy?

Does putting too many provisions on this rescue plan reduce the effectiveness of this whole initiative?

NO... If the Democrats pass the Bill with a majority vote (as desired by the Repub's) and it were to fail then they will never hear the end of it.

The whole event was orchestrated.

The problem is that now the Dem will tag on even more restrictions and oversight in a bill that the Republicans will have to vote through.

Clever

A typical Republican whine. Your party has no solutions, over promised and under delivered, and all you suckers have is to attack the other side like a bunch of sour grapes losers. You and your ilk have no solutions so I guess attacking the other side is all you have left. What a sorry group collectively your side is.

Though some of you have called us Independents "dumb", let me remind you that the election will swing either way on OUR votes. As a gun owner I find both candidates appalling and would rather have had Bill Richardson... but such is life! That aside, though the Democrats did pass a minimum wage bill, it was less than expected, certainly does not cover the minimum cost of living, and is not fully in effect. They did not, however do several things they were elected TO DO! They did not end the war in Iraq, they did not impeach Bush or Cheney, they did not leave us gun owners alone, and they did most assuredly NOT re institute oversight of the things that Congress is supposed to oversee... including the financial institutions. And where are the anti-trust laws when you need 'em? If an institution is so big you cannot let it fail, it should have been broken up! So yes, I'm and Independent. I am sick to death of being required to vote for either party with the dire consequences of having them immediately violate one or another of my civil rights. Did you like FISA being passed? How about the Patriot Act? Do you think EITHER party represents the kind of governance you can be proud of? Or are you daily shocked by the proposals brought up in Congress, and the failure to act on enforcement of laws they have already passed? Signing statements anyone?

That is why Republican heroes like Randy Cunnigham and Jack Abramoff are sitting in jail, and many others like Ted Stevens, Rep. Foley, Senator Larry Craig, Tom De Lay, Newt, and Alberto Gonzales may still get there. Hey pal, yours is the party of the corrupt.

Go read up what this Congress has achieved before spewing nonsense - increased minimum wage, improved benefits for veterans, passed the Economy stimulus package, etc. More in two years than the Republican corrupt congress from 1998-2006.

Do you think that Bush's handlers are going to have him do his "the sky is falling" routine everyday until they get their money from us? As the days, and perhaps weeks go by, and the market fluctuates, will Bush come out with his chicken-little plea to bailout his rich friends? Day after day we see him now, telling us of the imminent danger to us (sound familiar?) as he tries to extort money from us with his scare tactics. Will he continue to do this routine until the next president takes over in January? They could at least give him a better costume for his performance.
