Letterman

David Letterman Monday continued to demonstrate to John McCain that lying to the late night host is never a good idea.

In his monologue, Letterman used a joke about the bailout to hit McCain for canceling last week, saying, "Senator John McCain is in favor of the bailout. He loves bailouts — he bailed out on me."

Later, in an interview with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Letterman continued going after McCain, mentioning that not only did McCain not get on a plane to Washington when he told Letterman he was, but he also stayed the night in New York to speak to the UN the following morning.

"The information I was dealing with apparently was not true," Letterman said.

"Well I don't care for that at all," Louis-Dreyfus said. "I think that that was very rude, very bad manners, and so in an effort to show my support for you and to set the universe straight, I also scheduled an interview for exactly this time right now — and I'm not showing up for it."

Louis-Dreyfus explained that the interview she was skipping was one with Katie Couric on the "CBS Evening News" — the same show McCain ditched Letterman to appear on — which allowed Letterman to show the internal CBS news feed with Couric alone at her desk, a move that surely won't make him any more friends at the network.

Letterman will vote for McCain, or Barr. No doubt.

He sure won't be voting for Obama.

Yeah, I've noticed the tr0lls haven't had any new talking points since McCain air dropped in to save the economy. What's up with that?

McCain can dish it out - sure can't take it. Whaaa, Whaaaa, Whaaaa!
Guess what, I'll bet Dave votes for Obama and would eat sh*t and die before he'd vote for McCain & his moronic little Ah-Palin. Didn't you watch when Obama came on - earlier?
Dave is smart, and he is a philanthropist too, so he knows the country needs smarts not a blustering blubbering old man like McCain.

AKAchip: Or tell him the next time:

The sun may kiss the birds on high
The moon may kiss the butterfly
The sparkling dew may kiss the grass
And you John McCain may go back to the senate.

McCain has nowhere to go now but down. He can run away from President Bush, but he can't run away from the Republican Party. The Republicans will be regarded from now on as "the party that wrecked America." Over the weeks ahead, as carnage in the economy and the financial markets ramps up, it will become increasingly clear. It is important that this meme be spread through the internet. I urge all commentators to adopt and spread the idea that the Republicans are "the party that wrecked America." It will work because it is the truth. Use it freely. Just spread the word.

McCain pulled a stunt against the republican party when he didn't get his way with the nominee. They've seen what damage he's done and are not pleased. McCain is finished. If he doesn't pull it out of the hat for the republicans and ditch SP gracefully shortly thereafter, he will be politically dead to the republicans.

The article said: "The bar is even lower now for Thursday night. Palin's interviews with Katie Couric on CBS broke through the wall-to-wall bailout coverage simply because it's so cringe-inducing."
I wonder is she and McCain are sinister enough to have actually staged the Couric performance, specifically to lower the bar. He had to know that going against Joe Biden wasn't going to be easy and the best way to do it is to lower the bar so that she can only score points, not loose any.
We'll see on Thursday just how dumb, or smart, she is.

I would say the republicans might be going for the sympathy vote - but please remember this is the vice president of the United States of America we're talking about and ability SHOULD be paramount. Sympathy simply should not EVER have to come into consideration.

Letterman's ongoing razzing of McCain is great, but even better last night, was his tribute to Paul Newman. I remember the first "Late Show" on CBS, when Newman put in a surprise appearance and asked, "Where the hell are the singing cats?" One of the funniest things I've seen on the show, and I was glad that was included in the tribute.

By the way, FirstShirt needs to get a life, or more money from the Swift Boaters!

Hey Robi,

Funny when I heard of his passing I remembered back to watching that first Late Show and that cameo! Just watched the tribute and it brought a tear to my eye.

He was a class act

Letterman was the first to go back on late night tv following 9/11. He signaled a slow return to normalcy. He is an American icon and I hope he bashes McCain til Nov 3.

he will... the worst mistake McBush has made in this campaign was pissing off Letterman. He is powerful enough in this country that nobody will eff with him over what he says or does. More than that, (and it's the reason I've loved his comedy since his early late, late days, is he just doesn't care if he upsets somebody.

I still contend that NBC blew it by taking Leno instead of Letterman. I mean, look who's next after Leno: Conan? Ferguson is funnier, a better interviewer, no comparison.

Dave doesn't care about this, not really. He just wants to keep grinding the truth to people about what a lying opportunist McCain is. He's doing it brilliantly.

McCain's phoney move on the economy....what a laugh. Everyone is giving this one a big ol' horse laugh.

Thanks Dave!

Actually, I think he does care. McCain announced his candidacy on Letterman. That's an enormous, even emotional, historic moment. And McCain's idiotic stunt soiled it. I think Dave was furious.
