Letterman

David Letterman Monday continued to demonstrate to John McCain that lying to the late night host is never a good idea.

In his monologue, Letterman used a joke about the bailout to hit McCain for canceling last week, saying, "Senator John McCain is in favor of the bailout. He loves bailouts — he bailed out on me."

Later, in an interview with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Letterman continued going after McCain, mentioning that not only did McCain not get on a plane to Washington when he told Letterman he was, but he also stayed the night in New York to speak to the UN the following morning.

"The information I was dealing with apparently was not true," Letterman said.

"Well I don't care for that at all," Louis-Dreyfus said. "I think that that was very rude, very bad manners, and so in an effort to show my support for you and to set the universe straight, I also scheduled an interview for exactly this time right now — and I'm not showing up for it."

Louis-Dreyfus explained that the interview she was skipping was one with Katie Couric on the "CBS Evening News" — the same show McCain ditched Letterman to appear on — which allowed Letterman to show the internal CBS news feed with Couric alone at her desk, a move that surely won't make him any more friends at the network.

You'll have to ramp that up to 10000 lies. McBush lies 100 time a day.

Priceless stuff. The internal feed cut to Couric is the icing on the cake. Gotta hand it to him, Letterman's still got it!

Get a job Dave. You contribute nothing to society. It must be frustrating to be over 60 and still be laughed at for a living. When you get serious, no one wants to watch anymore.

Speak for yourself - CBS has the best late night lineup of this type - he puts the other two to shame.

You have every right to dislike Letterman and his schtick, that's your choice.

But "get a job"? He HAS a job---a very lucrative job, the same extraordinarly succcessful one he's enjoyed for a really long time.

Sour grapes much?

Yeah, poor Dave. He should "get serious." That's what comedians should do. "Get serious." Comedians HATE it when people laugh, as you've so brilliantly pointed out, and I'm sure Dave will take your advice to heart.
And you are so right. He should "get a job." Just walk away from that multi-million dollar a year street corner he's been sleeping on the last 27 years, and go to work.
Man, Republicans offer the most sound advice in the universe. No wonder they've driven the country into the dirt.
Speaking of being "laughed at," it's almost time for Palin's debate debut. She IS a comedian, right?

Your opinion only FirstShirt. If it were Limbaugh doing it to Obama you'd be applauding him. You're just another whiny Republic who throws a hissy fit when someone has the cojones to point out the truth and laugh at your candidate. Letterman contributes more to society in one opening monologue than you have in your miserable existence.

He makes fun of Regis because he LIKES him. In fact, the day after the McBush lie to Letterman, he paid Olbermann the highest complement, Dave-style, he harassed him about the size of his head.

The first time KO was on, Dave said he was a great guy or something like that - meant he admired his work. The jabs about his cebasa size means Dane likes him.

This seems silly or even superficial on Letterman's part, but it shows that McCain was putting his campaign first with his FAUX campaign suspension. It also shows how bad McCain's judgement is, and why he'd be a poor leader. He doesn't understand how to create public support for his own campaign, how good would he be at getting the nation to back him in any progressive reform he would try to make?

McCain bailed out on his own priciples with everything he's done in this campaign. Elizabeth Drew (who wrote the book endorsing McCain back in 2000) explains it best:

McCain didn't show up personally last week, but delivered a boat load of material for Letterman. Another pea-brained gamble by McCain with disastrous results.

John McCain is the most experienced person in Washington when it comes to Bail outs.

How many navy planes did he crash? 5? 6?

As for the live feed on Katy Couric, you gotta believe she was in on the joke. Payback for being set up with Palin.

How many have you flown, hero?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:55 PM on 09/30/2008

Well, I've got about 1000 hrs in USAF aircraft, albeit as a G.I.B. (Guy In Back). I'm no hero, but I can comment from a position of experience.

McCain lost 5 Naval Aircraft. Although, to fair, it should be noted that one loss was when his plane on the Forrestal was hit by an accidentally launched rocket from another plane on the carrier, and the fifth was when he was shot down in combat over Vietnam.

Bad bailout jokes aside, McCain's military career and "his accomplishments" are painful to relive. If he hadn't been in the service at the same time as his father the admiral, he'd have been grounded, easy.

I am pretty sure there are plenty of pilots in the armed forces who haven't crashed any. Not having been trained as a pilot, I can't say I have flown any myself. Defend away O' thin-skinned lover of corporate tax breaks, war and political meandering.

He would have been better off to tell the truth. Not showing up doing comedy because of the economic situation is more respectable than lying.

Dave is right to be angry, but to those people who are under the impression that Dave lives in a state of perpetual rage over this snub, you couldn't be more wrong. What, you think McSame was the first guest to cancel? Think again. Not even the first guest to cancel for bogus reasons. The reason Dave is harping on this is because it's still an issue (McCain's character) and because (duh) it's funny.

And if you find yourself formulating the answer "McCain's character shouldn't be an issue anymore," then you're basically claiming that Dave should be stumping for McCain, suspending his own agenda (being funny, hosting a show that says something about the world in which we live) for McCain's. Or yours.

And THAT'S what bias looks like. Not merely refusing to echo your every thought on every issue, but for bending over backwards to support someone for superficial reasons.
