Letterman

David Letterman Monday continued to demonstrate to John McCain that lying to the late night host is never a good idea.

In his monologue, Letterman used a joke about the bailout to hit McCain for canceling last week, saying, "Senator John McCain is in favor of the bailout. He loves bailouts — he bailed out on me."

Later, in an interview with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Letterman continued going after McCain, mentioning that not only did McCain not get on a plane to Washington when he told Letterman he was, but he also stayed the night in New York to speak to the UN the following morning.

"The information I was dealing with apparently was not true," Letterman said.

"Well I don't care for that at all," Louis-Dreyfus said. "I think that that was very rude, very bad manners, and so in an effort to show my support for you and to set the universe straight, I also scheduled an interview for exactly this time right now — and I'm not showing up for it."

Louis-Dreyfus explained that the interview she was skipping was one with Katie Couric on the "CBS Evening News" — the same show McCain ditched Letterman to appear on — which allowed Letterman to show the internal CBS news feed with Couric alone at her desk, a move that surely won't make him any more friends at the network.

YES McC is now the "BAILOUT CHAMPION" - DAVE is a RIOT and he is RIGHT!

McC announces "HE WON THE BAILOUT" and then "IT WENT DOWN IN SMOKE." Very Effective!

McC and Bush "HAVE ZERO CONTROL OF THE HOUSE REPUBS."

"NEW SLATE IN 2008!"

If AMERICA were NOT IN CRISIS the McC campaign would be FUNNY!

So you think it's OK for McCain to LIE. But it's not OK for Letterman to hold McCain ACCOUNTABLE. I haven't heard McCain do what a MAN is supposed to do: APOLOGIZE.

Accountable? He is a stand up former weatherman who does stupid jokes. Get real. Who cares what he thinks. He is over the hill.

What does he contribute to society compared to McCain? Nothing.

Seems to me that he's getting plenty of laughable mileage out of it at McCain's expense. The crowd loves it when Dave has a feud.

Seems to me that it is YOU that has to "get over it"!

Guests cancel on shows all the time, that isn't Letterman's issue. The sticking point, which he should keep mining for all its worth, is that the presidential candidate LIED. He manufactured a stunt; I can't do the show I have to shut down my campaign and get back to Washington to fix the crisis. When the world then saw him being interviewed on the same network, campaigning non-stop, and returning to Washington eventually. It's comedy gold. You can't ask for an easier target.

Letterman has wounded McCain badly by calling him out as a liar and political stuntman on the bailout. McCain really miscalculated - he's being blasted by both supporters and opponents of the bailout.

Does Letterman think he is some kind of political analyst for his ire against McCain? I think David has a huge ego and that is why he is so upset McCain cancelled. Get over it, Dave. I'm not even voting for McCain.

While I'm at it, quit the jokes about peoples' looks-you wouldn't want your mother made fun of-
(Rosie O'Donnell, Nancy Pelosi, Joan Rivers=all women please note.

I think you need to realize asap, that whether its Letterman or Kouric or Brokaw - its all entertainment and propaganda, dont delude yourself into thinking any of it is journalism. These are corporate owned entities that only exist if they can sell advertising and generate shareholder dividends. The closest thing in MSM to actual journalism right now is parody news ala Jon Stewart and Colbert.

Letterman isn't supposed to be journalism. It's comedy. He can make fun of whomever he wants.

Aren't you ignoring the real problem? It's John McCain's ego. He lied! Not only to cancel the Letterman Show, but McCain's claiming credit for solving the economic crisis. Except he didn't show up on Capitol Hill until after noon the next day, after a deal was announced! Seriously, does it take more than a day to fly from NYC to DC? Or even drive?

Man-up, McCain!

If McCain is in the pilot seat, it could take weeks to get from NYC to DC. If you get there at all.

While I agree on not voting for McCain and making fun of people's looks - I think McCain should NOT have LIED. Letterman is right to be angry. Letterman had a conversation with McCain and he told a bold face lie to Letterman.

Adorable.

Julia would make a better choice as a VP and much more entertaining wouldn't you say?

I support Dave as well and what goes around comes around Senator McCain.

Go Obama/Biden

While Julia was Elaine, I never realized what a wonderful person she is. Then I got to know her through Old Christine, and the real Julia shines through there. She's pretty damned special.

And this was damned funny.
