Famed conservative columnist George Will told a gathering of Senate aides on Monday that Gov. Sarah Palin is "obviously" not prepared to assume the presidency if necessary, two event attendees told the Huffington Post.

Appearing at a Senate Press Secretaries Association reception at the Cornerstone Government Affairs office, Will offered a harsh assessment of John McCain's running mate.

Palin is "obviously not qualified to be President," he remarked, describing her interview on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric as a "disaster."

Will did state, according to a second source, that Palin has received rough treatment from the media; arguing that the Alaska Governor would have been "skewered" by the press if she had made some of the same gaffes as Sen. Joe Biden has in recent weeks. But his sympathies only extended so far.

Will has already been critical of the other half of the Republican ticket, calling McCain's handling of the financial crisis "un-presidential" just one week ago. And in offering his take on Palin, the longtime Washington scribe becomes the latest in a list of respected conservative figures who have now soured on the Palin pick.

Last week, Kathleen Parker of the National Review penned a column calling on the Alaska Governor to be dropped from the ticket. New York Time's columnist David Brooks and former Bush speechwriter David Frum have also expressed their doubts about Palin's capacity for the vice presidential post.

Will, who could not be reached for comment., had also been previously critical of McCain's choice of Palin, writing a week after it was announced: "The man who would be the oldest to embark on a first presidential term has chosen as his possible successor a person of negligible experience." One week ago, meanwhile, Will penned a blistering op-ed about McCain, accusing him of practicing "fact-free slander," holding a "Manichaean worldview," and "characteristically substituting vehemence for coherence."

Both George Will and Newt Gingrich referred to Palin as a huge avoidable gamble.

Watch Gingrich and Will criticize Palin

It has now entered the lexicon of American expressions!

My niece says in her class, to "do a Sarah Palin" means "to act goofy" or "to say something moronic"!

On NPR, McCain just called Will and others like him who have thankfully been honest about Palin "Georgetown conservatives" who really aren't conservatives. Oh ok, that is a new one on me. I think McCain is losing it. At this point he would gain more votes, if Palin went home to Alaska where she belongs and he made up some reason and he replaced her. It is sickening that she is on the ticket and he is losing because of it.

McCain saying that Will isn't a conservative is like Ray Kroc saying Julia Child isn't a real cook.

Remember: Will and McCain both worked for Reagan around the same time. Will always thought McCain was an ignoramus, and McCain always thought Will was all talk and no action.

8 years of Bush and I have seen my 401K implode, do you think I really care if I pay a thousand more in taxes if it means Health Insurance for millions uninsured, decent schools, decent roads, and end to a trillion dollar fiasco in Iraq (borrowed money from China). If McCain wins, we face the really real chance of a much broader war in Iran as well. Let's just say, we will be dying if McCain wins. Top that.

Bet you thought that was clever. NOT! Lies are dumb, no matter how artfully worded.

Why? Would we be better off entrusting America's future to the dynamic duo of Palin and McCain? We can come out plainly and say it's because of Obama's race that most seem to be locked onto McCain and Palin. Anyone with half a brain in search of truth can assess the reality here.

Can you give us an example? One?

(Gov. Palin, is that you?)

Sarah Palin is not fit to be Vice President of the United States! I don't care if she is a hockey mom or not - she doesn't know anything!! Scary to think she could be President of the United States. She couldn't even tell Katie Couric what newspapers she reads because she apparently doesn't read any! Go Obama!

I'm sure she watches Faux News, though—she might even turn the volume up every now and again!

How could she not be qualified? She reads EVERYTHING put in front of her...just doesn't know the naes of the papers...she must have them confused with the Supreme Court cases! yeah, that's the ticket....

EVERYONE!

Please go to this link and hear McCain say right out of his mouth ..."IF I WERE DICTATOR, AS I HAVE ASPIRED TO BE..."

I hope Sarah Palin can DEBATE this and explain away McCain's own words.

ANY MORE QUESTIONS AS TO HIS INTENT?

Does not blinking equate with not thinking these days? Isn't the American public stunned that this woman cannot name the title of one book she's read (in say...the past year or two), nor one Supreme Court decision made in her lifetime other than Roe vs. Wade? Good golly, miss molly - my sixth grade grandson is laughing at her ignorance!!
