Sarah Palin said she does not support the morning after pill as a form of contraception, strongly implied that homosexuality was a choice, and could not name a single source of news that she turns to for information, in yet another installment of her interview series with Katie Couric.

Appearing on CBS Evening News, the Alaska Governor seemed calmer than she had been in previous sit downs. But while she only occasionally provided the type of befuddled responses that had even conservatives scratching their heads, her interview was nevertheless shaky.

Asked what newspapers and magazines she reads, Palin - a journalism major in college - could not name one publication.

"I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media," she said at first. Couric responded, "What, specifically?"

"Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years."

"Can you name a few?"

"I have a vast variety of source where we get our news," Palin said. "Alaska isn't a foreign country, where it's kind of suggested, 'wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

Later, when pressed on a variety of cultural issues, Palin provided red meat for religious conservatives. But her answers seemed to fall on the far edge of mainstream political thought. She said she was "unapologetically" pro-life when asked if she opposed abortion even for a 15-year-old raped by her father.

"[I would] counsel that person to choose life despite the horrific, horrific circumstances," she said, before moderating her position a bit: "If you're asking, though, kind of foundationally here, should anyone end up in jail for having an ... abortion, absolutely not. That's nothing I would ever support."

Asked whether she believed that the morning after pill should be outlawed, Palin did not directly address the question, saying only: "Personally, and this isn't a McCain-Palin policy, I would not choose to participate in that kind of contraception."

And quizzed about her position on gay-rights, Palin cited a homosexual friend whom she is close with before noting that she "made a choice" about her sexuality.

"I have," she said, "one of my absolute best friends for the last 30 years who happens to be gay and I love her dearly. And she is not my gay friend. She is one of my best friends who happens to have made a choice that isn't a choice that I would have made."

These positions may, in the long run, endear Palin even more to her conservative following. But combined with her failure to name a source of news she turns to, they are also bound to have people buzzing up through Thursday night's vice presidential debate.

It doesn't matter where she gets her news from, or what she reads, or that she can't name one supreme court case - other than roe v. wade. All that doesn't matter, I tell you.

SHE CAN SEE RUSSIA FROM HER HOUSE.

Wow, Katie Couric is looking really bad these days. Yes, I'm sure Sarah Palin doesnt read any newspapers. She also can't tell time and has to have someone tie her shoes for her. I think it is so funny that the liberals hate Palin so much they dont know what to do with themselves.

Some brilliant comic suggested that Ms. Palin probably thinks Roe vs. Wade were the two choices as to how to escape the flooding in New Orleans after Katrina. LMAO!

Best post I've seen all day. That should be an obama ad, with footage of eating cake with shrub. Top if off with the famous fishing picture of the bush family.

Sarah's friend made a choice to be gay? I'm gay. I don't recall making a choice. I only have two words to say: Anita Bryant.

I was thinking the same thing. If she actually had a gay friend, I am sure that person would tell her he/she never made a choice. I'd like to know if Sarah made the "choice" to be heterosexual.

I really do have gay friends, and none of them would make a choice to be discriminated against. It just goes to show you that these right-wing wackos never ever listen to facts to make decisions. They are truly brain washed by their conservative rhetoric.

The article is misleading and therefore unfair to Palin. You see, she does read to the point of memorization---her bosses' talking points. In addition, a sin is a sin and you know what happens to sinners, but she won't stop you from sinning 'cuz in the end, you get what you deserve. Palin will convince you, sooner or later. A lot of folks like her talk to God, and quite a few dems and repubs agree to having God's ear.

A father rapes his daughter (impregnates her) and Palin would choose to "counsel" the daughter to have the baby? And NO on the morning after pill????? Oh my God. This is frightening.

Homosexuality is a choice? Gays?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:32 PM on 10/02/2008

It is a choice ... just like choosing whether or not you are born male or female.

I wonder if her friend of '30 yrs' will still be her friend after that condescending remark.

There is an overlooked scripture in the New Testament that I found rather surprising. It is Matthew 19:12. Then google the term "eunuch" and see what you find out. Wikipedia gives a broader definition of that term. It was a real eye opener, very different from most people's perception of what the Bible says about homosexuality. As far as I can tell from exhaustive reading of scriptures, the only thing the Bible objects to is for persons of the same gender to "lay with each other." From the sources I have cited, it does not appear to me that the Bible condemns the existence of homosexuals per se, only sexual activity between them. The scripture I cited above hints that it is not a choice, but do find it and read it in the translation of your choice and see what you think.

Sorry to differ. "Eunuchs" were those who had been castrated. Their specialty was tending harems belonging to Eastern potentates. It's pretty obvious why they couldn't be trusted with the job if their jewels were intact. Just go to the Book of Esther and read how King Ahasueras had a hissy fit when he discovered Haman (who was not a enuch) pleading for mercy on Esther's bed (when she was in it). Eunuchs figure rather prominently in that particular biblical tale, and their role is clear.

Yeah, just like heterosexuality is a choice. I never made a conscious decision to be heterosexual. Why would people believe that gays make a conscious decision to be homosexual? This mentality is truly backward!

A 'Feminist' that can't name, or give an opinion of the Supreme Court's decision on Ledbetter v. Goodyear is NO FEMINIST. She's not even an intelligent woman.

Not that I ever believed she was a Feminist in the first place.

Palin is an idiot and doesnt know any Supreme Court Cases that she can site other than Roe v Wade.

However, she is speaking in code with her emphasis on "states rights" and her ability to follow laws on the books but can overturn and change them if she is priviledged to be VP basically means that she is for overturning Civil Rights amendments such as desegration cases, and putting it back to the states to make up their mind based on their constituents... It's just not politically correct for her to say it directly... however, that was the secret code that she was speaking.... Her and McCain are for "states rights" aka.. r@cists.....

"States Rights" has always been thinly-veiled code. The Republicans have a lot of damn gall to pretend that they stand on principle when they talk about it.

Where was the Republicans' respect for states rights when it came to overturning the Florida Supreme Court in order to install W in the White House back in 2000?

That actual term would be "states rats." The rats are the ones that eat away at the whole pie while the rest of us are sleeping.

Funny. Isn't being oblivious to facts and news the same way good ol' W told FEMA they were doing an excellent job in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster?

Besides, Palin can read. She read everything she was told to say at the Republican National Convention right from the teleprompter.

All in all, Palin is a mix of Dan Quayle and George W. in drag. On one hand, she's a Bible thumping redneck who is oblivious to facts (i.e.: Supreme Court cases other than Roe v Wade; homosexuality is a "choice"; "The Surge is working."; any name of any publication she has read other than her bank statement or instructions to her hunting gear, etc.)...On the other hand, she's an inexperienced twit that has America saying in the off chance McCain stuffs the ballot boxes and wins, "Good gravy. Keep that old man alive! We can't let that goober VP get promoted!" Political insurance and job security for McCain at its best. ...As for job security for anyone earning less than $200K per year if McCain wins? Not so much.
