Couric Palin

During their interview Monday, Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers and magazines she read to inform her worldview before being tapped as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate. And Tuesday on the "CBS Evening News," Palin's answer was revealed: "most of them," "all of 'em," and "any of 'em."

Palin would not, or could not, name a specific news source, saying only, "I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

Watch (discussion of media sources begins approximately 3:45 in):

TRANSCRIPT:

Katie Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious: what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
Sarah Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
KC: But, like, what ones specifically? I'm curious.
SP: All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years.
KC: Can you name a few?
SP: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

She reads the Bible! Come on, did Couric really think this woman read ANYTHING? She has a complete lack of curiosity when it comes to global issues as evidenced by her regurgitation of Bushspeak "gotta fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here" "they hate our way of life, our freedoms" This woman, IF she can read, likely gets her information from TV guide or whatever newsletter the NRA probably puts out.

Great to see the Repubs' little attempt to recreate Eva Perón is going down in flames...

Where is her babysitter? I found it odd that McCain sat in on her interview and blocked questions. Biden will eat her for lunch. Hope he brings some mouthwash to get the yuck out when he is done.

For a sadly, comical commentary, you may want to read the blog article about Palin at:

I watched the collection of her worst interview moments on Countdown tonight, and it occurred to me that it's not even funny any more. She is so obviously of limited capacity, out of her league, and clueless about it all, I felt like I was expected to laugh at someone in a wheelchair falling off a curb. There's nothing funny about it. I don't feel sorry for her, she's doing this to herself, but I find the whole scene now just repugnant disturbing.

If you think it is disturbing now, wait till you see the debate. It will be like pushing two people in wheelchairs off the curb into a oncoming bus. Shaking her cute little butt isn't going to make it for VP. Palin is "Legally Blond".

Please tell VP Biden to be prepared. I hear that Palin might where her hair down to hide the spy ear piece in her ear. Inorder for someone on their team to tell her the answers. That way she could answer intelligently and provide her own comments on top of the correct answer!

How awesome would it be if her "magic ear" device was picked up by the microphone system and broadcast on national television? Or, if by some technical issue squealed in her ear the entire time forcing her to walk offstage to take it out?

That said, I don't think that we need to count on faulty technology to bring uproarious laughter, shame and anxiety into the millions of homes of people watching the debate.

Just think....24 hours from now we will all know what we have suspected all along. She is not qualified and it will become painfully apparent to the republicans. I truly think this debate will be the last straw. Lowered bar or not....no person can pretend to be that ignorant for 4 weeks to set up a debate. I think she is genuninely who she has portrayed herself to be. Clueless and not qualified to run for veep.

They still have tonight and tomorrow to come up with an excuse to back her out and avoid the debate. Have the ballots been printed? Is that a legal hitch? What about the early voting states? It just might be too late. Oh well. Palin took this challenge knowing her shortcomings, so I have no sympathy for her. As For McCain, I have nothing but contempt for him for assuming people would vote for him for his shallow and sexist (yeah...I said sexist) pick. What an insult to the intelligence of the American public and especially to women. Did he think women would vote for him because he picked her? Pulleeze! I'm sure the base is clueless on this and that is what worries me. History will judge this whole thing. I can't wait for the inevitable tell all book soon to be out. LOL!

Palin has only one task in this debate: appear capable of being "presidential." She doesn't need to know anything. She just needs to appear very conservative, solid and unflappable, aggressive, and strong in her beliefs. It won't win over Obama supporters, it may not persuade many undecideds, but it will hold the base. That is all she can really hope for, and it is within her reach, I believe.

I'm sure that Sarah regularly reads all the newspapers and magazines she can find by the checkout at her neighborhood grocery store.

This stuff has gone from being entertaining and laughable to just utterly painful to watch. What truly offends me (and I never admit to being offended) is that this woman has the gall to assert that she is ready to assume the presidency. How many of us, the posters here, would ever accept the premise that we could handle the job of VP?? I'm assuming most of us would believe we are not adequately qualified, even though many of us have held some office. But Sarah Palin? No such humility for her. Her ego is as big as the Alaskan frontier.
John McCain putting country first? Hardly. He should be ashamed, but he isn't. Shame seems to be in short supply among Republicans. Arrogance, however, is at an all-time high.

I think Elizabeth Hasselbeck said the same thing about Alaska being a microcosm - which just goes to show she spits out ALL the kool-aid she drinks in.
