Couric Palin

During their interview Monday, Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers and magazines she read to inform her worldview before being tapped as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate. And Tuesday on the "CBS Evening News," Palin's answer was revealed: "most of them," "all of 'em," and "any of 'em."

Palin would not, or could not, name a specific news source, saying only, "I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

Watch (discussion of media sources begins approximately 3:45 in):

TRANSCRIPT:

Katie Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious: what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
Sarah Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
KC: But, like, what ones specifically? I'm curious.
SP: All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years.
KC: Can you name a few?
SP: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

I can't wait for the tell all book that will surely come out within a year about all the things going on inside the McCain campaign. All the juicy scoop on what the insiders are really thinking and saying and their true opinions of this woefully unqualified and painfully uninformed woman. OMG. She cannot even answer the question.

Sara should have just answered she reads every magazine she doesn't want banned along with those offensive books. Maybe she even agrees with that wacky evangelical who blamed Sponge Bob Square Pants for encouraging homosexuality. Very scary people these wackos.

She does not have to answer stupid questions like this?? Now, if were, "What is your favorite book?" No, No, No, that is what she would have asked Barack. His reply would have to be, "Rules for Radicals."

Why is it a stupid question? Palin previously said her worldview was informed not by traveling but by reading. So it makes sense to ask about her reading, especially since she majored in journalism.

Susan, how dare you think Katie should use Palins own words to load a question like asking her to share with us what those publications are

It is becoming more and more obvious that Palin majored in journalism so that she could become a celebrity or public figure. She is all about the manipulation of opinion. She doesn't do even basic research, preferring to govern and give speeches entirely from her gut.

There actually is a part of the body called the mind-gut. It has neurological tissue and is probably linked to the endocrine system in that part of the body. So there is a scientific basis for the term "gut intuition." I am willing to bet that McCain and Palin are lacking the neurological tissue required for having the mind-gut and make decisions entirely from their bowels.

When she says "sweat is my sanity" so she goes running. That's Bush. He ran while thousands were being killed. He said it helped him keep his mind clear. Sadly, that didn't take much work, plus he seemed to be making it clear from thoughts like how to end the war, help the economy or put the victims of Katrina back in homes.

No wonder Newt Gingrich and George will are calling Palin a huge, avoidable gamble

I think the reason she did not answer the question might be that it is very much a loaded question. Right wing conservative groups have very strict guidelines about what is acceptable reading material.

Personally, I didn't attack you, I just spoke to you. I'm still wondering why you said asking what Palin reads is a stupid question, when she said her reading is what shapes her world view.

Look, if you subscribe to, and read the Washington Post, or the New York Times, you are not going to be at a loss to answer this question. Face it, she's incurious, and doesn't read. The perfect replacement for Bush whose last book read was 'My Pet Goat'. (Albeit left unfinished....)

Palin is the reason America should spend more money on education!

Katie should have asked her what was the last book she read. Perhaps Westbrook Pegler?

Palin is like someone BS-ing through a job interview who is stumped when asked for specifics.
She made it clear early on that she was unaware of a myriad of things (e.g. Iraq and what a VP does all day) and clearly is not intellectually curious.

PATHETIC! And SCARY!

Sarah P says, she's "the new energy, the new face, the new ideas". I am wondering what that really means. I guess a battery has a lot of energy too, a fresh face isn't a priority for VP, and "the new ideas" is anybody's guess.

Can't wait to see Tina Fey do this one. And as far as being stu.pid enough to think of Alaska as a foreign coutry, we are not, Ms.Palin. I do not wonder how people in Alaksa can know what's going on in Washington, D.C. You see, when you have traveled in the world and have a global perspective, Alaska doesn't seem all that remote or removed. This woman is totally provincial and it's disturbing that she could not name one newspaper that she reads. The role of the Vice President has become important as an advisory position. Is John McCain planning to take advice from this woman? I should certainly hope not. And how exactly is Alaska a "microcosm" of America? Do you have nail-biting hurricane seasons? Terrorsit attacks? Large immigrant populations? Do your farmlands go underwater? Do you have a drought? How's your inner-city looking? Has the decline in the automotive industry cost you thousands of jobs and decimated your economy, too?

I realize this isn't a deal breaker, but who in the world can't name a newspaper or periodical they read?

If someone asked me that question I could rattle off at least five newspapers and three periodicals I read on a regular basis.

This is a woman who is completely out of her element when off script.

And, as for her vast debate experience: Sure, in small town debates where she can throw out damn near anything she wants and has lived in the area for years on end...but the debate Thursday will reveal her for what she is...an empty suit.

Geez, Loueez.....I can name several I *DON'T* read, that would at least have given the impression that I am aware of the printed word. In Alaska do they get news by word of mouth or by smoke signals....perhaps by beating on animal skins stretched over dead logs? [My sincere apologies and sympathy to the intelligent people of Alaska (the ones who do not support Palin). Mea culpa. You deserve better.]

The word for today is "Microcosm"!! Both the ditz on the view and Palin discribed Alaska in those terms.
Talk about transparency, these two are such light weights they are almost invisible.
