Couric Palin

During their interview Monday, Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers and magazines she read to inform her worldview before being tapped as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate. And Tuesday on the "CBS Evening News," Palin's answer was revealed: "most of them," "all of 'em," and "any of 'em."

Palin would not, or could not, name a specific news source, saying only, "I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

Watch (discussion of media sources begins approximately 3:45 in):

TRANSCRIPT:

Katie Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious: what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
Sarah Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
KC: But, like, what ones specifically? I'm curious.
SP: All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years.
KC: Can you name a few?
SP: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi paid her husband's real estate and investment firm nearly $100,000 from her political action committee over the past decade, a practice that she voted to ban last year and that her party condemned as part of the "culture of corruption" when Republicans did it.

Good thing she's not voting for vice president. Hopefully this will give Cindy Sheehan more ammo for her campaign. Thanks.

What does that have to do with what newspapers Palin reads?

Get a life.

Fair and Great question Katie.

I rarely laugh out loud. However when Palin was unable to name any newspapers our magazines; I started laughing and almost dropped my cooking knife while I was preparing dinner. She couldn't even lie and say the basics: "of course all the daily Alaskan newspapers because I am governor, Katie my staff highlights must read articles on local issues. Since I am a busy woman running the state and my family I have little time for leisure reading. However I stay in touch through my media adviser who collects articles for me from the major publications; off the top of my head The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal - magazines Time and NewsWeek of course and other political periodicals on both sides of the political spectrum because I like to stay informed as to how my opposition thinks..."

But instead I saw sheer panic because she knows she only reads "Vast Variety of beauty and celebrity gossip magazines they have at the Wasilla Beauty Shop wher I get caught up on all the latest gossip - my hair takes a long time to color and it is so relaxin while i get a pedicure"

Why does no one comment that this woman has the speech patterns(when not pre-scripted) of a teen-ager hanging out at the mall? Nearly every sentence contains the much-overused "like" that all teen-agers are able to work in...so banal,so trite,so like Miss SCarolina trying to answer a geography question in the finals of the beauty contest! Is it that only I hear this? Why do others "forgive" her for it,and think that they will not go stark raving mad listening to her "likes" and high-pitched alarm siren of a voice, for 4-8 years? How can they possible consider voting for this train wreck of a Rethuglican ticket? I just don't get it.

So Lieberman is her teacher? Well does her media performance reflect poorly on her teacher or,,, maybe..., Lieberman had a sudden change of heart and decided to help the Democratic ticket by dumbing her down and betraying the Republicans.
Well, a little farfetched. Maybe the most simple explanation is that she is just way out of her league.. CLUELESS.

This woman simply cannot speak without lying or exxagerating. How many of us can truly say that we read "MOST' of the newspaper and magazines out there? But if you've read MOST ... surely you can remember one source to name. She is a pathological liar, from big things to little things, she can't help it.... the truth doesn't exist to her.

The idiocy of Palin is unprecedented in American political history in the modern era, which is saying quite a lot for a nation which elected the ignoramuses Reagan and Bush TWICE each. Her stupidity is stupifying.

I agree with you completely jeanrenoir! The true dumbing-down of the electorate did begin when that actor was elected in 1980---expectations(and performance) have gone down steadily since then. And I,too, thought we could descend no lower than Shrub. Then the Rethuglicans pulled it off with a one-two punch of Mr. Decrepit and Mrs. Know-Nothing....I find it difficult to believe that ANYONE would vote for these two,but it must be true---all around me here in Old South people are jostling for position to drink the Rethuglican KoolAid AGAIN.

I see her point. It's sparsely populated, there are vast swaths of natural forests, many forms of native wildlife, and a huge native american population. I have to agree: Alaska is a microcosm of the United States... 200 YEARS AGO!!!!

Senator McCain sits down with the editorial board of the Des Moines Register and gets stumped by one of the best questions I’ve heard asked of him so far this campaign.

“Throughout your adult life, am I right, as a veteran and a member of Congress and now someone over sixty five, throughout your adult life have you been covered by a taxpayer-financed health care plan?

Think of the brilliance of this question: McCain has received “government-run” health care his entire life, and I’m sure he’s never had a single complaint. If “government-run” health care is so inefficient and wasteful, how has it served him so effectively for over thirty years? If it’s good enough for him, why isn’t it good enough for the 40 million Americans who desperately need it and are forced to live without it? I’m always amazed at how successful the Republicans are at convincing voters they don’t want something that clearly works well, and something that they themselves have no problem taking advantage of.

I thought that was brilliant.. McCain still spouts his truth that he doesn't want to interfere with individual choice....meaning choice between healthcare and rent. He gets free medical and $58,000 military disability on top of his senate salary. He has never had to choose.

You're right, This was brilliant. What was his answer?

His answer finally boiled down to -- seriously -- that there was a time in Hanoi when he didn't have any healthcare.

Actually, being the son of a Naval Officer, he has been covered by taxpayer financed health care for his ENTIRE LIFE. Except when he became a P.O.W. rather than a casualty.

McCain is now Cheney.

Palin is now Bush.

America loves its idiots. Can't seem to get enough.

Sarah Palin might be a nice politician but Sarah Palin as VP (or possibly President) at any time? She can't express herself in a coherent way, at least not yet. Her "mystical executive" experience is in a State that is not even as large as the second largest city in Illinois. I can't imagine her discussing policy with world leaders. She can't remember what she's been reading. (And) her lipstcik on a pit bull commemt was the most offensive of all the statements because she directed it, not just at herself but at other women) All of this does not make much sense at all. When are we going to solve the health care problem, the low wage problems, the bankruptcy problem that "main street" is facing. When are we going to stop electing people who not only lie but can't seem to tell the truth. We've heard from dogs (Palin's comment was about lipstick on a "pit bull"), pigs (Bush, McCain, Obama comparing policies) and Mooses (are fat free Moose burgers going to be the next craze?) But I recall that in the Bible (Old Testament), God used a donkey to get a message across to some of His people. Can we stop listening to the animals and listen for the voice of God?

As we used to say in the turbulent 60's, keep the faith, baby!

[Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."]

The things this woman says just makes me hate her... gallllllllll.

Alaska is as far from being a microcosm of america as the Hawaiian islands are.

No, we dont live in ice and snow for 9 months of the year having to shut down many roads due to avalanches.
No, we dont have a state with the largest land area and nearly smallest population.
No, we dont all get 11 times as much money per person population from the Treasury as your state's people do, due to your corrupt practices.
No, we all dont go moosehunting and brag about seeing Russia from our backdoor as our foriegn policy experience when that itself isnt even true.
No, California alone does more foreign trade discussion and meetings and travel in a month than your state does all year.
No, we all dont backbite, scourge our neighbors, and scheme and committ immoral crimes for our own personal benefit and lie about it like you do either.

The rape/incest question made her squirm. In Alaska the question is "If Mom and Dad get a divorce, are they still brother and sister?"

nice one. in fact, its entirely possible she is related to any number of her husband's family before marrying him. In fact, Bristol's baby daddy is pry related to her already.

You really have to feel a little bit sorry for her. She really does not get how stupid she sounds. Someone needs to clue her in.

Our next vp appears sort of vague, vapid, vacillating, vacuous and voluable, when she verifies she is a voracious viewer of a "vast variety" of vicarious, veritas containing news venues, like, "The Wasilla Whines Weekly," that provide vivid, vocal vision to our valiant, yet vacant, varmit hunting, putatively potential, next president. :)

In that tape of Palin discussing the treatment of Hillary Clinton, she said that a female candidate should do no less.

So I'm going to raise the bar to the level that she set it at.

Palin may even be a very able governor for her state, but, if the recent interviews that the McCain campaign has allowed her to do are any indicator, she is ill-informed, inexperienced in life outside Alaska, foreign affairs, and the national economy.

GOD HELP OUR COUNTRY! She is not the needed choice to turn our country around.
