Couric Palin

During their interview Monday, Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers and magazines she read to inform her worldview before being tapped as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate. And Tuesday on the "CBS Evening News," Palin's answer was revealed: "most of them," "all of 'em," and "any of 'em."

Palin would not, or could not, name a specific news source, saying only, "I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

Watch (discussion of media sources begins approximately 3:45 in):

TRANSCRIPT:

Katie Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious: what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
Sarah Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
KC: But, like, what ones specifically? I'm curious.
SP: All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years.
KC: Can you name a few?
SP: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

It goes to the core of the problem with Palin. She doesn't have a nimble mind. She was able to charm the few hundred thousand residents of Alaska and I'm sure she didn't have to do more than read back campaign slogans to get elected. But on the world stage she is going to have to show more than a test prep knowledge of subjects, she can't do it.

I'm sure she'll be able to give enough of a performance at the debate that her coterie of handlers will scream victory but it doesn't hide the fact that this person is simply unschooled in the issues that a president will face. ALready McCain is taking supplements to keep his energy up and we have seen how being president can absolutely age people. What is going to happen when this guy breaks down physically in office and Palin has to step in?

Her neocon handlers will take over the government much the way they did with Bush and we now see how disastrous that has been. How many people know the names Addington, Yoo, Feith? These guys are responsible for the selling of the Iraq war and the justification of the United States to engage in torture, rendition and the operating of black sites in countries that torture. They took over the the government from an incurious, unworldly, president. Now we are are supposed to put a person who is incurious, unworldy a heartbeat from the office. Are we insane?

This is a portion of the transcript from CBS:

(start)
Couric: What's your position on global warming? Do you believe it's man-made or not?

Palin: Well, we're the only Arctic state, of course, Alaska. So we feel the impacts more than any other state, up there with the changes in climates. And certainly, it is apparent. We have erosion issues. And we have melting sea ice, of course. So, what I've done up there is form a sub-cabinet to focus solely on climate change. Understanding that it is real. And …

Couric: Is it man-made, though in your view?

Palin: You know there are - there are man's activities that can be contributed to the issues that we're dealing with now, these impacts. I'm not going to solely blame all of man's activities on changes in climate. Because the world's weather patterns are cyclical. And over history we have seen change there. But kind of doesn't matter at this point, as we debate what caused it. The point is: it's real; we need to do something about it.
(end)

So let me get this straight -- Palin thinks some of man's activities are caused by climate change?

And don't forget she said, "But it kind of doesn't matter at this point, as we debate what caused it. The point is: it's real; we need to do something about it".

How in the hell can you fix something if you don't know the cause?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:57 AM on 10/01/2008

Simple. All we have to do is to de-cyclicalize the world's weather patterns. I read on some of 'em newspapers and all 'em magazines that it can be done.

EXACTLY!!!

And I'm howling about man's activities being caused by climate change -- in my dropped-jaw dumbfounded awe of her complete lack of comprehension on any of this, that particular goody flew right past me.

Excellent. Thanks so much for pointing it out. :-)

Have to keep laughing...otherwise I get so angry that this person is even a part of a national political conversation that my head is going to explode.

I think when she said "microcosm of America", she was referring to Alaska's Meth, Violence, and Rape problems.

(There is A Rumor that Palin "Did not actually graduate",,, I'm being told, if you look at her college record she transfered numerous times to different schools, if you know anything about college, some credits don't transfer. So I'm wondering if someone took a peak at Sarah Palin's transcripts, would they uncover the reason why she is so clueless...)

-------LISTED BELOW IS WIKIPEDIA's - SARAH PALIN COLLEGE TIMELINE---------

In 1982, Palin enrolled at Hawaii Pacific University but left after her first semester.

From there she transferred to North Idaho College, where she spent two semesters as a general studies major.

From there, she then transferred to the University of Idaho for two semesters.[11][12] During this time Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant beauty contest,[13][14] then finished third (second runner-up) in the Miss Alaska pageant,[15][16] at which she won a college scholarship and the "Miss Congeniality" award.[17]

She then left the University of Idaho and attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska for one term.
The next year she returned to the University of Idaho where she spent three semesters completing her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism, graduating in 1987.[11][12]

First, the use of the word "maverick" should be banned for the remainder of 08 and all of 09.
Secondly, Peg Bundy is not qualified to be VP. Finally, you dis your VP counterpart on his age when your running mate is one of the humans you claim ran with the dinosaurs.

Microcosm of America...without minorities, urban housing, inner-city schools, complex infrastructure, and intricate economies. Other than that, they are identical.

Well, yeah, except for maybe one crystal meth lab for every 149.5 residents of Wasilla.

(population of Wasilla - 7,028, divided by 47 meth labs)

EVERYONE!

Please go to this link and hear McCain say right out of his mouth ..."IF I WERE DICTATOR, AS I HAVE ASPIRED TO BE..."

I hope Sarah Palin can explain away McCain's words here.

ANY MORE QUESTIONS AS TO HIS INTENT?

Firstly, I doubt most Americans would understand the meaning of the word "dictator".
Secondly, if they did, they would probably not be against it. Americans want a leader who is decisive, unlike the sham for a Congress we now have. Our culture is definitely ripe for a dictatorial coup and there would not be a damn thing we could do about it until it's too late.

Be careful about the October surprise.
