The Boss and the Piano Man are officially hitting the campaign trail.

On Tuesday, Obama donors were informed that Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel will join the Democratic nominee for his "last event in the Tri-State region before the election," at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Please join us the evening of Thursday, October 16th for a very special concert with Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and other exciting guests! This is the first time that Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen will play the same concert!

Even in an election year with some historic "firsts," that's pretty notable. And pretty expensive: balcony tickets go for $500, "premiere" seats cost $2,500 per person, and lounge tickets go for $10,000.

UPDATE: Turns out the Obama release was wrong, Springsteen and Joel have played together at least once before:

I was always of the belief that Joel was a filthy republican...

Don't think so... Billy has always kept his politics to himself. As far as I know this is his first concert in support of a candidate-- and it probably took a bit of fast talking by Springsteen. But Goodnight Saigon, Allentown, No Man's Land... hardly GOP material.

I'm going to this one:

I guess jazz fans have less money, or our heroes are unable to make the scratch they deserve.

Nonetheless, thanks to the Boss and Billy Joel for donating their talents.

We want the Dixie Chicks!!!!!!!

The Dead/ Allman Brothers concert for Obama excites me more. Plus it won't cost an arm and a leg to see.

Man, that is cool. I had not heard about that. I would go to that one.

Love this bottom up brianstorming...the type of entrepeneurism Repubicans love to tout, but then legislate against in favor of trickle down economics. Hopefully, someone in the Obama campaign
has either thought of this idea or will see it here.

The Boss is awesome, just don't let Joel drive to the event it may cost us some voters.

the boss is awesome. However, Mr. Joel has written some great songs and is a great musician and performer.

I agree. We saw Billy at JazzFest in New Orleans in a driving rain storm, and the man was rockin! He hasn't lost a lick. And Bruce ... I LOVE the man.

And speaking of men I love, too bad Paul Newman won't be able to make the concert. He was (and is) a national treasure.

I don't know if the Long Island or the Jersey Shore can afford those prices. Sheesh.
I always said I'd support Obama cause he had better music. Did you see Stevie Wonder at the convention?

Don't know if the L.I. or Jersey Shore can afford those prices ? ? ?

Ever hear of The Hamptons or The Great Gatsby ?

And, I know for a fact that Tony Soprano couldn't afford a house on the Jersey shore ! ! !

First I thought: great move -- this is a wonderful way for Obama to reach the Boss' and Joel's fan bases. Then I saw the price tag, and realized that this is nothing more than a common, high-priced fundraiser. It's a shame. They really could've done something great with this by performing all their proletariat songs and professing the need to vote for Obama to a large audience.

I know that this seems like a lot of money for a concert, but I think you are all missing the point here. This is not just a couple of artists coming out in support of their candidate and in the process being able to charge a lot of money. This is a FUNDRAISER. A way to raise the most amount of money possible in a short amount of time to get this guy elected! They can charge whatever they want and people who can afford it will pay the big bucks to not only see a great concert, but also to raise money for a very important cause. Keep in mind - there are only 35 days left to raise as much money as possible and I applaude them for doing their part.

At these prices, I would expect only rich, greedy, compassionless Republicans to attend.

Afaik Black is only slightly to the left of Genghis Khan -- Merle Haggard would be a good bet.

she usually is?
