Letterman

Tuesday night, David Letterman kept his war with John McCain raging strong, weaving another McCain joke into his monologue (that's 4 shows in a row, not counting the Friday show which was seemingly pre-taped earlier in the week).

"Yesterday the stock market...suffered its biggest one-day drop in history....And I'm telling you, boy, it's a good thing John McCain blew me off to go save the economy. Thank god is all I can say!"

Keep it up, until he agrees to come on the show-then beat the crap out of him. Do a whole skit on 'manners' and teaching little kids not to lie. Sponser 'save the elephant' fund for a commercial. Or better yet, when he comes on-just tell him you'll be there-and then tape the show somewhere else.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it going Dave. Why let it go? You are the bigger man. That lying John McCain gets what he deserves..

Letterman has his share of 'effyou' bux, and puts it to use when he sees the need.

The worst part for McCain is that he cannot fix this.

If he tries going on the Letterman show, he knows he is going to get chewed up one side and down the other by Dave, so McCain will continue to look like a fool.

If he doesn't try to weasel himself back on the show, he loses the chance to be seen by millions of viewers who might not pay attention to him otherwise. No matter what, this is a lose/lose situation for McCain. What a twerp.

As for Dave, have at it. And know that no thinking politican willl ever snub you again!

Nice! It is so sweet when comedy and doing the right thing are cosmically aligned.

Way to go Letterman! Expose this underachiever for what he is.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:57 AM on 10/01/2008

Now, now. "Underachiever" implies that if he tried to he could do better, and I doubt that, I doubt it very much.

Great for Dave and I support his doing this BUT...

This was NOT the largest drop in stock-market history - it was only 7%. The largest drop was 20%...

It's not about absolute numbers, it's about percentage - as the market grows in size, each "point" represents a smaller part of the total. A 25 point drop when the market is at 100 is a 25% drop, and with a market at 1000, it's only two and a half percent, etc.
.

It depends how you measure it, in % points or absolute dollars. Like all numbers, you can spin it multiple ways. neither is wrong. that is why you have to pay attention

Failed at math or excelled at rhetoric in English? Has to be one or the other here...

NO, the statement "largest drop," unless further qualified, by definition means percentage.

If McCain/Palin can lie about numbers that matter, then David Letterman can use peotic license that is not really incorrect.

Yes, in percentage terms, 777 points was merely the third largest drop. Would you have preferred more......

Back in 1929 few people owned stock, but the $1 trillion loss on Monday will be seen by the more than 50% who now own stock.

Most points in a day. Percentagewise -no.
But it makes a great message, dont you think?

No, I don't, because I don't want people panicked. Panic causes people to make BAD decisions, like going for the bailout.

Dear PT6 -- take your meds, write a draft, check your spelling, and then hit "send." I think I'd really like to hear what you're saying, but, dude, two words --- caps lock.... forget it.

Ironic isn't it? That after all of the serious trials and tribulations John McCain has had to endure in his life, the one that may be his ultimate undoing was completely self-inflicted.

Get used to it: President Obama, how sweet it is!

Trickle-down, deregulated economic policies that have been pushed by Republicans has failed.

The plan being discussed, and likely to pass with some new measures, still includes government buying assets from financial institutions. Government is not the problem, it is the only solution.

Republicans are in denial because their way was nothing short of failure.
