Elisabeth Hasselbeck

"The View" heated up over politics again Wednesday morning, specifically around the subject of Sarah Palin's readiness to be President.

"She doesn't know anything about it!" Whoopi Goldberg said, which set off co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

"In terms of experience, she's actually been leading a microcosm of the United States of America," Elisabeth responded.

Things heated up even more after Elisabeth took a swipe at Joe Biden, prompting Barbara Walters to say, "Every single day you never ever say, maybe there's another point, so this is your chance....Tell us now why you think that Sarah Palin would make a very good President."

Elisabeth's response? "Tell me why Barack Obama is qualified to be President."

Watch as Elisabeth eventually puts together a list which includes "she has been in charge of the National Guard during a time of war":

From ABC, 10/1

How does Whoopi stand it? I can only assume she's socking the money away for her retirement. This Hasselbeck person is nearly as flat line as Palin. Why couldn't she have remained within her area of expertise--assistant game show hostess, cat food commercials, etc., etc.

I think it is about time that EH thinks before she talks and at least be able to back herself up. We all cannot be wrong here; there is no discussion about Palin, she has proved that to us. She is not VP material from get go. I would be mortified if she was our VP. She does not want to answer the questions, she just say what , I think, is prepared for her to say. It does not work that way!
EH, leave the show, you bring it down a notch everytime you state one of your dumb opinions. You never say, "let me think about that". (BW is right about that)
Maybe you should learn from Palin and call in a lifeline or say "I'll get back to ya"!

Elizabeth seems a believer first and a rational person second, upset if her views are questioned because they're based on feelings of loyalty rather than anything else. It's the way one likes the home team v. the away team. If being mayor of a city of 6,000 is running the country in miniature, then she doesn't have any idea of this vast country and its urban centers. People running for mayor in a small town would think that they are making their first step in becoming president. Perhaps in Palin's ambitious way, she did.

Palin she thinks she can circumvent the questions of a debate by stating she will talk to the American people. It was a debate, not a personal appearance making speeches. She's like someone who has read the chapter after the test. If asking whatt the VP actually does was a joke, as she claims, the tapes of her asking it show an awfully dead pan comedienne. From lwinks and grimaces, that doesn't appear to be her style. And now she wants to expand the VP powers!

She is most dangerous because she doesn't know what it is she doesn't know--what there is to know--and so therefore thinks she knows everything.

She thinks posing and using phrases and affected speech (she doesn't talk the way she did in last night's debate--watch the Alaskan debates) can pander to "Joe Six Pack," a condescension if I've ever heard one.

Q: Tell me why Sarah Palin would be a good president?

A: Tell me why Barack Obama would be a good president.

That doesn't really answer the question, and you know that first response from Hasselbeck is the most honest, because she knows and the GOP knows that Palin hasn't got any business being up there...in their hearts...oh yea, they know it.

Apparently you don't hear so good.

Go back and use those "Independent" ears. And pay attention to the answer this time.

When will she get fired? Barbara will have to up her ante to revamp her show. I think right now Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg and holding up the show. Hasselback is taking the show down.....Wake up Barbara.

I am so tired of the Rethugs saying that Obama has no experience to be POTUS! Let me ask these conservatives this question? With all the "experience" that Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld, et. al had, could someone please tell me how did that work out so well for the country?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:58 PM on 10/03/2008

So, you're saying that experience isn't really an issue, and maybe even a good thing? Then why is it ok that Obama doesn't have much experience to be Prez, but it's not ok for Palin as VP.

I like these gals, I do. But this show keeps proving that a round-table discussion by women devolves into an emotional display of shrieking and babbling without any specific INFORMATION being presented. Do all of us American women really have to be this stupid? Can we not retain some concrete dates and examples of legislation and accurate quotes? If we can't, I say it is not because of our nature but because we have so few women on TV to inspire us to try harder. Is it only Katie Couric and Rachel Maddow who can name specific instances and quote reliable sources?

Obama's presidency will be a continuation of his life's work which includes advocating for the disenfrachised as a community organizer. He has studied and taught law. He has traveled extensively and he has been an extremely motivated and active member of the senate. He understands people and understands nuance. His answers and knowledge during debates speak volumes.

Sarah Palin is obviously without any ability to think on her feet. She appears to spout her party lines when it comes to economics and foreign policy. She has consistently shown a weak, or nonexistent knowledge base. After eight years of deregulation and a failed economy she still believes in the trickle down theory.

Don't begin to tell me that Obama is not experienced but he is not a typical Washington insider. I love how the GOP suddenly cares about experience, now that they are the Washington insiders. A true maverick, Obama, is trying to become president and they are scared.

That was very interesting. Could you now site some examples of his true maverick behavior in the senate or examples of him not just following the party line and democratic speaking points.

Is a good example of him thinking on his feet, say.... using a teleprompter at a rodeo?

Yammers, who give's a rat's *ss if Obama is or is not a "Maverick". After this election, being a "Maverick" will be redefined as a dishonorable, unstable, ignorant liar.

It's a GOOD thing that he has been a true blue democrat as well. After this election, being a Republican will be redefined as a rabid, stupid hick.

Hey Yama,

I just saw your response. if you are still reading...

Obama always thinks on his feet. A typical example was when he called McCain out for misrepresenting his votes on veterans during his debate. Another example was his response to McCain's wrist band.

In the Senate Obama was often liberal. This is because of his intellectual bent, his sympathy for the disenfrachised, it does not mean he didn't fight the powers that be and act like a maverick. A maverick fights those in power, not his own party. Still, Obama cosponsored bills with Republicans to increase the transparency of government spending so that voters would know what their tax dollars go for (How many Americans know how much of their tax dollar goes to Halliburton et al and no bid contracts??? Much of that money has disappeared.)

Oh and he was against the war before it was popular.

I could go on.

Another thing that shows she is completely clueless, doesn't have any depth, and can only repeat tired cliches. John McCain has never lead a Brigade either. He was in the Navy. There aren't any Brigades in the Navy. There are squadrons, and fleets. Brigades are in the Army and Marine Corps.

I found these little blurbs:

""Bob Stumpf said McCain took over a squadron of about 75 planes in the mid-1970s, with about one-third of them out of service. In about 15 months, he said, McCain had all of the planes and pilots on a full training scheduled. "By force of his personality, he went around the squadron and turned it around. He took a ragamuffin outfit and turned it into something special.""

"But those Navy records also cast some doubt on the importance of a claim McCain makes in his autobiography – that he took bold steps to improve the readiness of the squadron. Some of McCain’s contemporaries don’t recall key parts of a management initiative that he describes in that book. And although the squadron was well-run under McCain, it appeared to be no better managed than before he arrived or after he left, according to interviews and records.

But there’s no doubt it was a big job. Running the squadron, with its 1,000 personnel and fleet of 75 jets, was like managing a small corporation."

Wiki has a short notation about McCain having been their leader for a brief time.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck is so much a "stepford wife" truly a blonde (when this was a derogatory remark, this is who it pointed to).

I always change the channel when this airhead is on.

Is this a show about people having different opinions or is this a show where liberals blow smoke up each others butt

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:10 PM on 10/03/2008

It's a show where Hasselbeck cannot tell the viewers WHY Palin would make a good President (if need be)
It was stated that since none have been president before, non had experience of that office. Hasselbeck disagreed, saying Palin has....but refused to state why.
