NEW YORK - How do you get kids to vote? Just say no.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Tobey Maguire, Eva Longoria Parker and other stars are using reverse psychology to get young people into voting booths on election day.

In a new public service announcement that hit YouTube and other online outlets Wednesday, DiCaprio says: "Please -- just don't vote." Others echo his plea: "Don't vote."

But the stars soon twist the message: Voting is a civic duty and the only way to effect change.

"I mean, seriously, ... after this whole video -- if you're not gonna vote, I don't even know what to say. ... You know you have to vote," says DiCaprio, who produced the PSA.

Also appearing: Ellen DeGeneres, Forest Whitaker, Dustin Hoffman, Demi Moore, Sarah Silverman, Jonah Hill, Ashton Kutcher, Courteney Cox, Laura Linney, Natalie Portman, Jamie Foxx, Usher, Kyra Sedgwick and will.i.am.

Yes, just what we need. More condescending rich people.

As a proud, tree-hugging, bleeding heart liberal, I beg you, Hollywood: stay the hell away from what's left of this election.

I mean, even just a quiet, Shakespearian reading of W's track record by Jim Varney would've been more enraging and motivating than this bollocks. I don't suppose taste and restraint takes you very far in southern California, though.

Just the facts ma'am. They are damning enough.

Anyone who uses the expression "bleeding heart liberal" is beyond hope, but I will post my comment anyway. The only "condescending rich people" there are around are the majority of the Republican party (remember, John McCain thinks you're not "rich" unless you have at least $5 million.) These actors gave their time freely to make this video in order to try to get the youth of America to care enough about their nation to get off their lazy asses, away from their computers, and VOTE. Hopefully they will get the message that voting McCain/McSame/McBush/Palin/Paining will only drive the nation further into the hole and further into disgrace among the rest of the world. Our only hope right now is Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Anyone who can't see that hasn't looked at the facts.

Tongue-in-cheek, heard of it?

You're last statement shows, however, that you agree with me completely.

Exactly buddy. Like I said: the facts alone are fine, you don't need to layer it with syrupy, self-important nonsense. Keep reading the truth about what's happened in the last 8 years, that'll will do.

And no, condescending rich people are on both sides of the coin, anyone who doesn't know that needs to get out of the house more often. "Beyond hope", indeed.

I don't think you are a liberal. If there is anyone out there that can get people to register, I don't care who they are. Why do some people think that well known people can't use their notoriety for some good.

If people only were influenced by facts and truth we wouldn't have the present administration or have the Disasta from Alaska even getting this close to the White House.

I thank each and every one of the people in this video (It was a little long) who lent themselves to do this and probably for free.

Only condescending rich people I see lurking around are Dubya and Cheney who likely made a killing in OIL this year! They and the the rest of their gang of old-white-conservatives will benefit greatly if young voters *don't* vote.

If reverse psychology can get young people to give a darn about voting in one of the most important elections ever, then make it so. Let the stars speak as they have in other elections. They have as much right as anyone to express their opinion.

I am a bleeding heart, tree-hugging liberal and I loved the video! I hope it works.

You hippie, I think this is a sound and positive message, and even though they don't say it, they want you to vote Obama, most celebs are liberals, and young people are more likely to listen to a celeb then a politician sad but true. Just the fact the kid from Superbad was in it with foul language was enough to sell me bravo I say.

Let your voice be heard, vote 3rd party. If you live in most states, like NY, CA, IL, TX your vote for President won't count. Your state electoral college votes have already been given to one party or the other. Swing voters in eight states will pick the President. The others are window dressing.
However, you have a chance to voice your dissatisfaction with the big 2 by voting 3rd party. Your voice will be heard in Washington as they see the number of people finally becoming tired of the contrived lack of choice between the two parties that continue to loot the people. The only way to be heard in this election is to vote 3rd party.

This presumes I'm dissatisfied. Which, really, I'm not.

While I agree with the concept of having 3 or even 4 parties, I am quite happy with the Dem choice available to me.

You are wrong. Even if you don't live in a swing state you must vote because your vote will affect the senate. The senate is really important. So every vote is important! Even if you live in a forever blue state.

Because young voters just love being condescended to.

Tell me, when are we going to roll out the "Vote or Die" campaign again?

I think this is an awesome video!

It is sad that we have become a nation who doesn't take any responsibility for "how the nation goes"....

It is sad that civics classes have become an option in so many highschools

I am a born again political junky and I am so happy that so many of are coming home to realize that we really do have the power to take back our Nation..... to bring it back to its roots and put us on a path of prosperity again....

GoBama/Biden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This may sound naive, although I think it's just less cynical....at least these people are making an attempt at encouraging (maybe educating?). Using whatever their celebrity powers are, for good - not for buying more stuff. No one is dictating how to vote, just urging people to take part in a process that should include everyone. That to me seems a lot less annoying than pessimists criticizing but offering no viable solutions other than fatalism. If only a handful of voters are swayed, then the contribution was worthwhile.
