Dont Vote

NEW YORK - How do you get kids to vote? Just say no.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Tobey Maguire, Eva Longoria Parker and other stars are using reverse psychology to get young people into voting booths on election day.

In a new public service announcement that hit YouTube and other online outlets Wednesday, DiCaprio says: "Please -- just don't vote." Others echo his plea: "Don't vote."

But the stars soon twist the message: Voting is a civic duty and the only way to effect change.

"I mean, seriously, ... after this whole video -- if you're not gonna vote, I don't even know what to say. ... You know you have to vote," says DiCaprio, who produced the PSA.

Also appearing: Ellen DeGeneres, Forest Whitaker, Dustin Hoffman, Demi Moore, Sarah Silverman, Jonah Hill, Ashton Kutcher, Courteney Cox, Laura Linney, Natalie Portman, Jamie Foxx, Usher, Kyra Sedgwick and will.i.am.

love the message, but it's maybe a little self-indulgent for the video to be FIVE MINUTES LONG!

The only reason it is so long is to give people to link over and REGISTER so...forgiveable :-)

ALL HOLLYWOOD ALL THE TIME....

We know who they are voting for....
It has been the liberals in Washington who have gotten rid of oversight committees and so
Hollywood continues to push the envelope...

Is there anything that the younger generation hasn't been exposed to....
Talk about 5 going on 15 yrs old.

If it isn't in the movies or TV, it is on the commercials. If a parent tries to protect their child from the
liberal education, some other child who gets to see all this stuff will inform them.

No wonder so many people are home schooling and keeping Hollywood out of their living rooms.

Like the scene in TERMINATOR where Arnold murders an entire station full of police officers?

I'm sure you know what I am talking about unless you think it is okay for some of the stuff
in the movies today that is in bad taste.

Nobody is talking about something that shows a moral to the story without being so
explicit about sex , bad language etc...I'm not talking about movies with a lesson for
people....We know it is good for the criminal to be caught, but all the extra curricular isn't necessary. It is only to get a rating so more Hollywood can make more money.

I don't care to look at somebody having sex and unless you don't know what sex is all about maybe you are interested, but most people (even married couples) aren't interested in watching someone else.

Keep something sacred in this liberal country....sex should be private and I think the people
who portray these parts in Hollywood and on TV would be ashamed to do this in front of other people.

DISENCHANTED AND DISGRUNTLED DEM, since the 2000 election was stolen. A 'political junkie' but armchair observer, with a 'give G the benefit of the doubt', up until after his 2001 Inauguration and my Layoff from a Fortune 500 Company after 10 years, when he came out promoting A Social Security Privitization/Ownership Society/Criminalization of Seniors for crossing Our Borders for Cheaper Prescription Drug Costs/Scheme!!! Then came his 'Shock & Awe'/'Mission Accomplished' campaigns for WMD, no wait Osama/Dead or Alive/O Never Mind/ Democratization of Iraq! Then, I BECAME REALLY STIRRED and kind of 'RAD'. I decided to join a Washington Protest March in Sept 2005, after 'The Katrina'/'Atta Boy Brownie Debacle'! Now, this Wallstreet Bailout? It, almost literally, MAKES ME PHYSICALLY SICK, to see where Dubya& His Have More Constituents (The Military Industrial Complex, Pharmaceutical, Insurance and Banking Industries) have taken Our Country to these last EIGHT YEARS: The Verge of BANKRUPTCY! It's not fair! And yet... STILL... THERE ARE THOSE, especially of The End Time Deceived Being Led to The Slaughter All The Day Long Herd, WHO REMAIN BLIND TO THESE TROJAN HORSES WHO'VE OVERTAKEN OUR SHIP OF AMERICA, AND EVEN ENTERTAIN 4 MORE YEARS OF THIS SAME AGENDA WITH 'MCSAME'? IT GRIEVES ME! 'Born Again Christians'/'Lovers of Israel', listen and consider: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-seitzman/hey-fellow-jews-take-this_b_130430.html (posted elsewhere, but thanks Michael)! I'm sick of how the GOP uses "liberal" as if it were a nasty word...

Here are dictionary.com's definitions of liberal. Nary a negative connotation to be had...

1. favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.
2. (often initial capital letter) noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.
3. of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism.
4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
6. of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.
7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.
8. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.
9. characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts: a liberal donor.
10. given freely or abundantly; generous: a liberal donation.
11. not strict or rigorous; free; not literal: a liberal interpretation of a rule.
12. of, pertaining to, or based on the liberal arts.
13. of, pertaining to, or befitting a freeman.

Um. Progressive, tolerant, free, generosity, free from prejudice or bigotry...

These all sound like GREAT qualities to me.

Good luck, I'm still trying to figure out how "intellectual" became an insult and "judgement" a character flaw.

Prejudice is an evil, but to excercise judgement is critical to any sane decision making process.

We seem to have slipped through a looking glass into a very odd world in which knee-jerk reactionism is lauded as a virtue and calm, rational, thoughtful consideration of an issue is decried as "elitism"... another term that's been unfairly blackened.

except that the voting process is so corrupted that you can't even be sure your vote counts. stop the drama. this commercial, again, speaks to the uninformed. so much for liberals caring about the country.

I'm becoming a united states citizen tomorrow. The deadline for voter registration in my state is Oct. 8th and this election is the first election that I can vote after 19 years being in this country. I can not even describe how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity. I want to say this to all the people who don't care about voting. Think, when people elected Bush what happened not just in the US, but in the world. How many people got killed and how many will be killed if we elect McCain. So, your vote will change the life and destiny of so many people around the world. That means you have to vote and really think about who you are voting for. I believe the people who vote for McCain, knowing his policies, If Iran gets attacked and thousands or millions die in this attack and then when Iran retaliates and more people die, are as responsible for these deaths as McCain himself. McCain is a military person. he killed so many people in Vietnam, he does not care if more people die. He scares me to death and you should be scared too. Think about the family who are living in peace right now and then if you vote for McCain and he wins, the same family will die or get dispersed from his home. Think how you are affecting the whole world and think hard.

Wow. Hollywood is playing a reverse psychology trick.

I wonder if that "middle class" - "joe six-pack" - "blue collar" demographic Hollywood patronizes will ever get it. (Note the sarcasm.)

What a contrived, pretentious display of vacuous vanity.

Stick to acting ladies and gentlemen.
I prefer the big screen, not your big mouths tinsel town.

Dinner time discussion in America:

I'm RIGHT and you're not because I like the color blue! NO! I'm right and you're not because I was BORN here! No, no, - that's not it, I'm RIGHT and you're NOT because I believe in family values and you're morally reprehensible! NO - YOU'RE ALL WRONG - I'm absolutely RIGHT because I like sports and it's all about sports, who gives a crap about all this other stuff. No, excuse me - that's not really it either - see I'm RIGHT because I understand GOD is the answer and you don't! No, it's okay that GOD is the answer, it's actually which of over 2000 particular spins on religion you take - each ONE of those is more RIGHT than the other. WAIT, I KNOW I'm right because it's all about CHOICE! No way buddy, it's not about CHOICE it's all about RULES and ORDER. No, that's not it - we need NO RULES - that's THE answer!
-----
FACT: We all thought the world was flat and anyone who shared their reasons why they thought that might not be true was ostracized or worse as some sort of "witch or demon".

FACT: Until about half a century ago we thought the ATOM was the smallest building block in the universe until we discovered protons, neutrons and electrons

FACT: Until just under a century ago it was perfectly legit to OWN other people as property

Apparently we haven't learned anything. *sigh*

At least their using their celebrity status to TRY and do some good in this world by getting people to vote -- for whatever party they so choose.

They get my applause and not my contempt. I certainly cannot say the same for luschmat who does nothing but spew negativity and venom on message boards.

Is there really something wrong with people trying to encourage others to vote? I think NOT. The GOP is just scared of these types of ads because the more people who register, the worse they'll do in the election. They think that these messages lean left solely because the Hollywood types are attached. That may very well be the case, but no one is stopping the right (or better yet "wrong") from producing such star-studded ads. Oh yeah. They only have Arnold and Chuck Norris. Oh yeah, and that genius Toby Keith.

Good ad. There are people who truly believe voting is a waste of time. I just heard someone say this on the radio this morning. It's sad. We have got the get these people to understand their vote does count.

It might be a waste of time. I just heard that the Ohio votes are being counted in Tennessee by voting machines owned by Sen. Bob (sleeze) Corker. Can this be ture? If so it explains how he beat Harold Ford. Say it isn't true. If it is true shouldn't it be illegal?

I am not sure it is good to tell them that voting is the only way to get change. What about civil disobedience, and consumer action. Also people shouldn't think the Presidency is more important than other offices, so I don't know why everyone focuses on it.
