NEW YORK - How do you get kids to vote? Just say no.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Tobey Maguire, Eva Longoria Parker and other stars are using reverse psychology to get young people into voting booths on election day.

In a new public service announcement that hit YouTube and other online outlets Wednesday, DiCaprio says: "Please -- just don't vote." Others echo his plea: "Don't vote."

But the stars soon twist the message: Voting is a civic duty and the only way to effect change.

"I mean, seriously, ... after this whole video -- if you're not gonna vote, I don't even know what to say. ... You know you have to vote," says DiCaprio, who produced the PSA.

Also appearing: Ellen DeGeneres, Forest Whitaker, Dustin Hoffman, Demi Moore, Sarah Silverman, Jonah Hill, Ashton Kutcher, Courteney Cox, Laura Linney, Natalie Portman, Jamie Foxx, Usher, Kyra Sedgwick and will.i.am.

I flew home from Europe once to go with my newly registered daughter to vote. It was a moment of family pride that we, as women, have the right to vote. We have the RIGHT!!! My great grandmother fought for that right for me and my daughter.

I hear you, Fellow Mom! I drove all the way up to my daughter's college, picked her up, and brought her home, then drove her back up to college the next day just so she could vote in our primary.

Civic participation IS a family value :-)

DON'T VOTE !!! It only encourages them...

If you don't vote because... you did not have time and picking up the dry cleaning was more important....
If you don't vote because ... you had to take the minivan to the mechanic for an oil change
If you don't vote because ... it was raining, snowing, hail, sleet, a stiff breeze
If you don't vote because ... it's Tuesday
If you don't vote because ... it's that time of the month
If you don't vote because ... the [YOUR FAVORITE TEAM] lost last night
If you don't vote because ... your boss will be mad if you vote and are a little late for work
If you don't vote because ... you don't know where your voting precinct is
If you don't vote because ... you seriously can't find your voter registration card
If you don't vote because ... [FILL IN A LAME EXCUSE]
If you don't vote because ... the voting machines are too complicated... with all those letters and numbers
If you don't vote because ... you might have to stand on a line next to people who might want to talk to you
If you don't vote because ... you did not know there was a Presidential election in November
If you don't vote because ... you just don't vote.. period

then... please consider leaving this country for any other... where you may not have the right to vote.. or you can vote as many times as the

Finally, they make a statement that makes sense.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:55 AM on 10/02/2008

Ask all these celebs ... "HOW MANY ELECTIONS HAVE YOU NOT VOTED IN?"

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:48 AM on 10/02/2008

i don't think that really matters now. How many elections have YOU not voted in?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:02 AM on 10/02/2008

I've already helped nearly 20 potential (D) voters to register in Michigan today. (It's 9am)

How many have you registered?

Why not show every day people doing the same ad. Seriously? Study after study shows that people don't care what celebs think. In fact, many people rebel because the see celebs as out of touch.

Study after study?? Magazine after magazine, papparatzi after papparatzi and movie after movie proves that millions of people care about what celebrities say and do. Furthermore, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt putting time and money on the line and actually holding and helping sick or needy people makes them just like us in the trenches.

What studies?

Celebrities have a certain pull and influence in our society, that's why they continue to endorse products, services and concepts, because it works.

I challenge you to present evidence of these numerous studies you're referring to.

'You know what happens to fibbers right?

If you are influenced by celebrity, then perhaps you should consider reading a book or finding better role models. As I said STUDY AFTER STUDY shows that friends and family have more influence than celebs. And for those of you who asked for studies, start with those below and let me know if you need some more:

Well those actors are helping Obama and their fans are the ones whos gonna vote for Obama.

The young vote is gonna be very high for Obama and hence their the ones who like to see their movies from action to suspense. And thats the voters that know alot about the internet and they do their fact checking themselves instead of letting the media analyze something or tell them what their thinking. After the debate I put it on KO which I new would rough up Mccain. Now my brother on the other hand wanted to put it on CNN to see what they was saying. BTW hes the reason I watch KO and Im the reason he watches RM! I new Obama won the debate and there was no need for me to listen to those people. So i just listened to Keith and Rachael! But sometimes they do a good job cause the other day I seen one of those CNN news man call Rudy out on hes bullshit about Mccain.

I had the pleasure recently to work on this video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9pqGxnrM1A ), aimed at getting young voters motivated to register and vote. Please, pass it on.

Get up. Get out. Get involved. Register and vote for real change in America.

yeah. i like this ad better, and though i have a feeling the "don't vote" one might appeal to some young sensibilities, i think its a bit top heavy on the 'don't' part before the reverse psych kicks in. peer perspective hits closer to home.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:31 AM on 10/02/2008

I agree. Quantum Science is real. But on the other hand, the mind doesn't register the words don't, stop, end, ect...Here's the rub. If I say END THE WAR - the mind envisions WAR. If I say STOP AIDS IN AFRICA - the mind envisions Aids in Africa. The importance of this? Well, if the mind envisions a thing, then it empowers that thing. Best to say BRING PEACE or HEAL AFRICA! These are clear images of the things we want.

DON'T VOTE will invoke a powerful image of voting. So the psych checks out favorably.

Stay calm...

This ad is infinitely more powerful than the annoying celeb ad. Note to Halle Barry; despite your over-acting, this ad will not be nominated for an Academy award.

Just as a bit of advise to newbies to the vote thingy.
Registration in most states closes on the 6th of October, which is a Monday. Getting a registration card is ez.

Court houses, post offices, some stores have them, call your county registrar or clerk and get the lo-down.

If you want to vote, be warned, the cut off date is zooming up!

And to those that don't know, there have been some busy bee's, cleaning up the voter rolls. To make sure you are still registered, call you county registrar to make certian. Especially if you are black or living in a black neighborhood. The vote cleaner-upper faries make a habit of whiping out whole swaths of black voters from the voter lists. just check.......please!!!

,,,and if you are not on the voter roll when you get to your polling place demand a provisional ballot and still vote. If your registration checks out later as valid your vote will count.

My problem is that I REALLY can't decide which unsatisfactory candidate to vote for. I will probably vote McCain just because I'm pro-life, but I can think of a lot of reasons I don't want him any more than I want Obama.

And I have really thought about it, I'm not a young kid, I am a lifelong Democrat senior citizen.

My indecision is becoming decision that if I vote I will vote for a third party, probably the Constitution Party.

I have a friend who says she's going to write in a candidate. To me, that is absolutely ridiculous, it's like not voting at all. Like it or not, we have two choices. Educate yourself and pick one. I find that people who say such things as "I don't like either of them: means: I'm racist and wont' vote for a black man. It's 2008, get over it.

Please consider the fact that Obama has studied and taught the constitution as a visiting professor in Chicago. Our rights as individuals will not be taken away or violated because he knows the constitution. If there are any questions you have regarding Obama's policies, this link right here: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ will take you directly to his stance on all of the issues.

Have a good day!

Do what I do; vote your conscience. If neither of these guys appeals to you, vote independent. If that doesn't appeal to you, write in "no suitable candidate available"

Many of my friends are voting Indy this year. We know we'll lose, but we want to send a message to all political parties: "It's our way, or the highway for you"

Imagine the Mainstream Media, if this year, fifteen percent of the overall vote goes Indy. Imagine the fear the two parties will feel, if in another four years, that could rise to twenty-five percent.

But let's not expect that kind of change soon in Washington. Revolutions are started in our own backyards.

If you want things to change, challenge the incumbents in your community. Neither party has enough cash to fight for every seat available. If we start locally, we'll grow like a tsunami, and take our country back from the two worst blights this Nation has ever experienced, the republican and democratic parties.

Those two parties are directly responsible for the state this nation is in today. They are the reason lobbyists OWN Washington. They are the reason a guy like George W can get elected in the first place. They are the reason the world hates us.

Washington is as corrupt as it can get; it could be no other way when every lobbyist knows that to buy an ENTIRE political party, all he really has to do is buy one politician.

I can come in and do your "house chores" while you make up your mind whether you want to vote or not.

Check out the term 'splitting" under psychiatry and see if that applies to you.

Good luck while I wait.

That was really cool!

I hope the young people out there will take this election seriously and participate in it because you have a lot more riding on this election than you might think...like your entire future, Iraq, Afganistan...and if McCain wins...Iran, Russia, Pakistan and whatever other countries he might decide to invade.

You young people would be his pawns...I mean soldiers.
