Since she was picked for the Veep spot, the press has often noted that Sarah Palin has "80%" approval ratings in Alaska. Just yesterday, John McCain told the Des Moines Register editorial board that she is "the most popular governor in the United States." But that may be outdated.

McClatchy reports today that her approval rating in her home state has tumbled to 68% -- still high but surely not the country's best. The poll by a local firm that works for both parties was taken Sept. 20-22. McClatchy writes: "Palin's popularity has swooned as new information about the local abuse-of-power investigation known as Troopergate has trickled out, and as national and local media pick over her track record as a governor and small-town mayor.

How could her numbers stay high when she ignores the ALASKA LEGAL SYSTEM!

Sure $4,000 in the mail over the last two years gave her a MONSTER BOOST!

But Alaskans now know more than they ever have about her including,

"MISUSE OF POWER-GATE"
"THE TRUTH ABOUT THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE"
"SALE OF STATE AIRPLANE TO A FRIENDLY BUSINESS MAN WHO DONATED TO HER ELECTION"
"THE PURE LACK OF DEPTH ON VIRTUALLY EVRY ISSUE"
"YOU CAN SEE RUSSIA FROM A NARROW SPOT IN ALASKA 800 miles from Anchorage"

That is a GOOD START on why the NUMBERS ARE DROPPING SO FAST!

There was an equivalent on the other side of the country. Ask Massachusetts its opinion of former governor and former candidate Romney.

68%......isn't that the percentage of home-schooled inhabitants in Alaska?

Having grown up in Alaska and having kith and kin who still call it home, here's how it seems to be shaking out:

On the one hand, Trooper Wooten probably deserved to be canned and you can't blame Sarah for using a little executive license to try to get rid of him (come on! wouldn't you if he threatened your family?)

On the other hand, Walt Monegan is a straight shooter and much respected in Alaska -- probably not the best idea to fire him in a tiff because he wouldn't do an ax job on your ex-brother-in-law. But it's pretty much a wash at this point -- Sarah moved forward with an 80% approval rating, probably due to the $1,200 stocking stuffer she handed out to all the Whos in Whoville, and promised to cooperate with an investigation.

The problem now would seem to be the McCain team of cheechako lawyers who have apparently hi-jacked the state government. Even state Republicans seem to be getting a little chafey -- expect them to become even more resentful as Palin's chance of becoming Vice President fade. Alaskans don't get a lot of attention (and a lot of them like it that way) -- but they don't like being made fun of and they particularly don't like having slick talkers from the lower 48 telling them how to handle their business.

Expect things to get very rowdy. And the "up to the minute", check out Mudflats at: http://mudflats.wordpress.com/

Do the residents in Little Diomede, Alaska also receive $ 1.200.00

CNN: Sarah Palin Has Never Seen Russia From Alaska

October 1, 2008 02:55 AM
Just when you thought the whole "I can see Russia from Alaska" thing couldn't get any funnier...CNN's Gary Tuchman delivers the goods: it turns out that Sarah Palin has never seen Russia from Alaska.
Tuchman went up to the part of Alaska from which you can actually see Russia, a remote island called Little Diomede located just 2.4 miles from it's Russian twin, Big Diomede.

It turns out Gary Tuchman's trip to Little Diomede sets him apart from Sarah Palin -- because she's never actually been there, nor has she set eyes on its neighbor in Russia.

Tuchman says that only 150 people live on Little Diomede, and that the town of Diomede has no streets and no cars. The poverty rate is over 40%, there is no television, and the only practical way to reach it is by helicopter. Anchorage (near Palin's hometown) is 550 miles away.

No Alaskan governor has ever visited Little Diomede, though indicted U.S. Senator Ted Stevens has made the trip. The town's residents barely knew who Palin was, and one of them didn't know she was the VP nominee.

Well, if the folks on Little Diomede are eligible for the PFD (that would be the Permanent Fund Dividend), they'd be eligible for the $1200 energy rebate. One thing's for sure, it's desolate and empty up there and it's just as empty and desolate on the other side. I don't know how much foreign policy gravitas you can acquire staring from one barren island to another, so you'd have to check that with John McCain. Growing up, I do know that, if you put your index fingers on the coil in the back of a transitor radio, you could hear "Radio Free Moscow" in Anchorage -- sounded a lot like NPR but backwards.

Alaskans are either as ignorant as the woman they elected Gov. , or they have figured out she is a fraud and are hoping to jettison her off to Washington.

The only people who look worse than McCain for backing Palin are certainly the voters of Alaska. They've exposed themselves to being an uninformed electorate, and I'm surprised that her approval numbers are still 68%. Even now after weeks of Palin's embarrassing record being exposed by national media the Alaskan voters clearly choose to remain ignorant.

Palin better dump McCain from the ticket , before he totally trashes her reputation.

They spent the $1200 she gave them, and now they're back to reality

Isn't that funny? The lower 48 got $600, Alaskans got $1200!

She had better high tail it back to Alaska. I have a feeling Mccain is gonna lose and when that happens there may be an impeachment awaiting her return to Alaska. I would suggest she bow out of the VP nomination and try to salvage her governorship.

Serious question, who IS the most popular Gov in the US?

Dunno... but a recent poll from 09-27-08 had Bobby Jindall at 77% with only 3% thinking he's doing a bad job.

The 80% approval rating is misleading; so is the 68% approval rating. Those are indicators of Alaskan's personal feelings, not indicators that they think she would be a good Vice President. The same poll that puts her at 68% approval also has Joe Biden favored in the state as a better choice for Vice President in every category except oil drilling.

In that light, the 68% approval rating--or, for that matter, the 80% rating--is a lie, insofar as it is only mentioned to obfuscate the fact that Alaskans don't think she is the best choice for VP. Representing facts in an effort to hide the truth is a form of lying. Apparently, so is campaigning for McCain.

This is no time to get complacent. I expect more dirty tricks in October--maybe the Rove apprentices will have an ad obama fathered a black child...just kidding. Seriously, you can bet there are people cloistered in a dark smokey room coming up with ideas to derail Obama's momentum. That is why I am spending two hours a day minimum writing letters to the editor and monitoring publications, and responding with facts when people are dissing Obama.

Geez, you mean you can't fire a competent public official if he doesn't carry out your own illegal personal agenda? What is this a democracy?

I guess that Alaska, described by Palin as 'a microcosm of America', is finding out what their guv is all about. She was probably much more circumspect in letting the facts be known while still confined to her home state but since being on the ticket the MSM has found out lots that was hidden in those deep snows.
