Reuters reports that Palin's "troubles" are mounting for John McCain. The GOP nominee now spends much of his time being asked to defend Palin's judgment and experience, even among conservatives.

Mocked by comedians, derided by prominent conservatives and reeling from flustered interviews with national media, Sarah Palin is proving a risky gamble in Republican John McCain's quest for the White House.

"Palin is Ready? Please" a headline in Newsweek said this week of the moose-hunting Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, capping a turbulent week in which Palin's fitness for the job came under growing scrutiny.

"Sarah Palin is utterly unqualified to be vice president," Newsweek International Editor Fareed Zakaria wrote.

"She is a feisty, charismatic politician who has done some good things in Alaska. But she has never spent a day thinking about any important national or international issue, and this is a hell of a time to start," he said.

Indeed, in recent days, McCain has:

-- Gotten testy with the Des Moines Register editorial board, describing Republicans who question Palin as "Georgetown cocktail party" people
-- Insisted to NPR that he has actually consulted Palin for foreign policy advice "many times"
-- Claimed that quoting Palin's public remarks on Pakisan was "gotcha journalism"
-- Lost much of his campaign staff to Palin debate prep

Democracy Alliance memo details Dem plan to “educate the idiots” and target minorities

In a confidential internal memorandum, the Colorado Democracy Alliance outlines a roster of “operatives” who worked for Democratic victory in the 2006 general election. The document outlines specific tasks for various members of the state’s liberal infrastructure, including a campaign to “educate the idiots,” assigned to the state’s AFL-CIO union. Among the operation’s intended targets: “minorities, GED’s, drop-outs.”

Yikes. No big deal to me, but how do we explain this one? It's a Rovian strategy to make us look bad. Must be.

OK folks,

So what surprise are we going to see tomorrow before or during the debate. There is sure to be one. Here is my brainstorming list:

1. Palin drops out before the debate
2. McCain campaign protests the debate because it is being moderated by Ifill.
3. Palin does extremely well -- because she is cheating
4. McCain campaign protests the debate afterwards because it was moderated by Ifill
5. Palin goes negative and starts digging up cultural and personal attacks against Biden

What is going to happen?

They can't- and won't drop her......legal reasons (early voting), plus the face-saving thing.

I am going with-they consider it a Palin win, because she said her name without stumbling. The bar is set so low that an earthworm would knock it over..let's face it.

I also think that the repubs are going to knock anything ifill does-it's already started..they are insisting she shouldn't moderate bcz of her book on Obama..so if SarahStupid doesn't look good, they will blame it on Ifill, "She's in the tank for Obama." (can we retire that stupid expression?)

Here's what i want to know...

what happens when sarah has to return to alaska--will the mccain people continue to shelter her in this ethical mess she's got herself in?

or do they pull their people and let her twist...?

I am thinking....the latter...

Biden is going to make one of his patented idiotic comments. He can't help himself. We all know that. Gwen Ifil is not going to be able to resist rolling her eyes at a comment by Palin. This will turn off everyone watching who has any semblance of objectivity. Sarah Palin is going to remain cool and calm and kick a**. End result, the media will and a whole host of uninformed bloggers will look like fools. Well better said, will look like bigger fools than they already appear.

Dear JoeStalin2008:

Is it me, or are you spinning the facts so hard that you are totally losing it? I will note with interest your suggestion that Biden will conduct himself on October 2, 2008, in a manner consistent with his "patented idiotic comments". Interesting projection.

However, you seem unable to grasp - assuming that the following is the logical deduction you were attempting to make - that if past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior, then it is Madame Palin who will end up looking like, ahem, a "fool".

To be more specific, based upon what we've seen of Palin thus far, she is likely to come across as, among other things: inarticulate, defensive, lacking in depth, evasive, programmed, sophomoric, disdainful, arrogant, and self-righteous.

But then, these are the essential qualities that people like you seek in a Vice-President, yes? Dude, say it ain't so!

2 AND 4. LOL

Miss Lola - McCain's camp will drop her off in Alaska, barely slow down for her to jump out and leave her high and dry to deal with her ethics mess.

I'll bet on your #2. and #4. for sure, and if I may take the liberty, another possibility
>They replace Ifill with Rick Warren and he questions Biden first, while Palin is backstage in
a special "Cone of silence".

According to the latest state polls, Obama practically wiped McC off the toss-up states. McC has no state defend. Palin is the only thing left for him to defend.

how can any sane individual claim she is ready to take over on day one knowing absolutely nothing about her because she is off limits. all we know is she can read a teleprompter, she sold a plane, she said no thanks to a bridge that congress said she couldn't have, she fired a chef, and she can see Russia from her land. i actually feel bad for republicans when they try to defend her. it's pretty embarrassing yet they still carry on. i think after telling one person that she's qualified because she can see russia i would just dig a hole and bury myself.

How do you keep Sarah Palin busy all day?
Put her in a round room and tell her to sit in the corner.

"Similar terms for the common family can be Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Public, Mr. & Mrs. John Q.
Citizen, or Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Taxpayer. Roughly equivalent, but more pejorative, are the names Joe Six-pack, Joe Blow, and Joe
Schmoe, implying a lower-class citizen..."

We are not "your Joe Six Pack", MS PALIN. We are AMERICANS.

We don't sit around in our underwear, drinking cheap beer, eating chips from a bag under the sofa cushion, scratching our a**es while practicing how to burp words.

How utterly offensive, CRASS and no class to lump and assume Americans without money or status are just that!. How offensive to talk to Americans like they are beneath YOU. If you think that LUMPING Americans into your perceived halfwit stereotype, with six dogs under a porch, washing machine under a carport, a ripped out bench car seat as a sofa, and an old RV as our master bedroom, is winning you and your running mate any points, YOU are the one out of touch.

Are you assuming that those in subsidized housing, living on disability or receiving some sort of living assistance waste their time, lives and what little bit of money they may have, live like this? Do you think we want our country to thrive so we can have more BEER money?

I will LMAO if, after McCain loses, Cindy runs off with Todd Palin.

Or better yet, she runs off with Levi Whatshisname.

No, Cindy runs off with Sarah, and then their families take them to their church so they can "cure" them of their homosexuality.

the Palin choice was obviously a desperate act geared to both solidify the right wing base while, hopefully, garnering the votes of women. It, at first blush, appeared masterful. However, the campaign apparently did a really, really bad jop vetting Palin. To paraphrase that often asked question about the vote to support the Iraq war, "if they had known then what they know now" surely they wouldn't have selected her.

However, McCain is now stuck with her and the embarassment of spending an increasing amount of his time defending her and trying to both correct and downplay her frequent blunders. I'm sure she nice to her mother and her sled dogs; but as a VP candidate she's the greatest disaster in our political history....including Dan Quayle (and that's really saying something).

It's too late to dump her, but, cheer up, at least the campaign can blame a loss on her candidacy and the "liberal press's unfair attacks on her."
