I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise's appearance has been minimized in the "Valkyrie" trailer, FoxNews reports. Scroll down to see the new one and the old side by side and see if you agree.

The trailer now starts with Cruise looking like Lawrence of Arabia in the desert right before a big explosion knocks him out.

I guess this from the big war scene that was filmed this summer in California. Historically incorrect, it shows why Cruise's character, Col. Claus Von Stauffenberg, spends the rest of the film wearing an eye patch and fumbling with a lame arm.

Now prominent in the "Valkyrie" promotion are this scene, and a sequence showing the bomb that's supposed to kill Hitler. Of course, what the trailer doesn't tell you is that the plot failed when the bomb explosion was blocked by a table. Hitler had his would be assassins executed the next day.

Well, I do think it's interesting that the second trailer starts out all about North Africa and the first one didn't even mention it! And it was pretty well publicized how much the Germans dislike Scientology and ergo, Tom Cruise.

But- Scientology aside- doesn't it bug anyone else that Tom Cruise still just SOUNDS like Tom Cruise? I mean, there is no accent or even an attempt ( at least in these trailers) to make his voice sound any different. He sounds like he just walked in off a beach in Malibu. shrug- it looks like they spent a lot of money on period window dressing, but it also looks like it's supposed to be a sort of WW2 era 'action' movie. and while Cruise has the whole action hero standard look and act down pat, I think it makes him a less than believable WW2 German officer. We'll see - I'll Netflix this, but I probably won't go to the movies to see it.

While I'm no fan of Cruise and his cukoo "religion", I'd say the movie looks pretty good. I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD.

It's good to know there were German high officials who saw how mad Hitler was and were willing to do something about it. Same thing with our upcoming presidential election; if we elect Barack Obama, hopefully people around the world will see that we are not all crazy Bush supporters. Our reputation has been in the gutter far too long, now.

Lame !
Anybody familiar with the Second World War knows this story well, and knowing Hollywood blockbusters, they will mangle the real story in order to make it more appealing to the lowest common denominator.
This would be a great pick for Sarah Palin though. She could check off Germany and Military Stuff on her foreign policy punch card, and she would also see a story she's never heard of before. A real win-win for her.
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the movie where Tom Cruise comes out of the closet.

Oh oh! Me too. Ever since Top Gun. Come to think of it, Sarah could watch a whole slew of Tom Cruisers to come off like she's prepared to be VP with her supposed 'gubernatorial debate experience."

It would be nice if people practised their religions istead of flaunting them.

(And Cruise is a master flaunter.)

this anti tom cruise hysteria is pretty funny.
it's the anti cruise contagion bug, coming to pop culture near you.
i don't think i caught the bug, because i can still think.
i would like to discover the source of the bug. the people that have it would surely point to
tommy as the source, but that's silly because people "choose". more that likely they choose to imitate.

Is it *hysteria" against Tom Cruise, or is it well reasoned and thoroughly justified loathing of the quack cult that Cruise is a devout member of?

The criticisms directed at $cientology are well and thoroughly documented, and supported by overwhelming empirical facts. That Cruise has chosen to be drawn into this quack cult and promote said quack cult is what puts people off, not some "hysteria" that is simply directed at Cruise himself.

The source of the 'bug" is $cientology itself, a cult designed to ensnare the vulnerable and fleece them for every dime.

Hail Xenu.

Very true! But Scientology is also no different than any other organized religion, church, or cult.

Tommy boy's sportin an amazing accent in this one. Fits right in with the rest.

Granted, none of the actors seem to be using a German accent, but most at least seem to be from the same continent.

No, on the contrary.
The main difference with the second trailer is it explains the plot better for those who are not in the know about this piece of WWII history -- Cruise's role is not minimized.

Having a deep interest in WWII history, I would love to see this film. Unfortunately Crazy Tom Cruise already ruined it simply by being involved. I'll pass.

Little Tommy should do a guest role on Dexter. I'd pay good money to see a power drill find its way into his head.
