Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise's appearance has been minimized in the "Valkyrie" trailer, FoxNews reports. Scroll down to see the new one and the old side by side and see if you agree.

The trailer now starts with Cruise looking like Lawrence of Arabia in the desert right before a big explosion knocks him out.

I guess this from the big war scene that was filmed this summer in California. Historically incorrect, it shows why Cruise's character, Col. Claus Von Stauffenberg, spends the rest of the film wearing an eye patch and fumbling with a lame arm.

Now prominent in the "Valkyrie" promotion are this scene, and a sequence showing the bomb that's supposed to kill Hitler. Of course, what the trailer doesn't tell you is that the plot failed when the bomb explosion was blocked by a table. Hitler had his would be assassins executed the next day.

Yet again, another deceptive title of an 'article.' This time it's perpetuating rumors that studio heads are fed-up with Tom Cruise . . . that he's a liability ostensibly because of his Scientology.

The evidence? The new trailer has 2 seconds less Tom Cruise than before.

Geez.

The business of snark; making hay where there is no hay. Destroy careers, ruin reputations all for the headlines. Independent minded Tom Cruise has been providing meat for years.

The original trailer for "W." made it look like a depressingly overdramatic flick about a drunk, while the new one makes it look like a sprightly comedy. Focus groups rule Hollywood.

I read the comments below this. Disclaimer... I absolutly do not have a "thing" for the movie star, Tom Cruise, but he is a decent Hollywood movie star. He is credible within his range which was exactly Paul Neuman's sweet spot....for instance.

Scientology is another matter. Too bad Tom Cruise didn't meet a kindly Buddhist monk before he got suckered in. It's no wonder Scientologists hate psychiatry; their targeted demographic are the same people, but, face it, introspection is the compitition for every religion. To whit, people living in the past who need "cleansing" and can not live in the moment for fear of the future.

At one time i myself thought of starting a religion. The suffering demographic is always available. But... as John Dean once famously said to Richard Nixon, "But, Sir, that would be WRONG!". Wrong, exploitive and realllllllly bad karma. Besides....? The answer is free. Google: "The Four Noble Truths". All the rest is bling.

The central tenet of Buddhism is introspection, the whole focus of meditation.

$cientology is no religion, but a scam (wolf) designed to ensnare the emotionally vulnerable and masquerading as a legitimate religion (sheep's clothing).

$cientology is no more religion that I am the pope.

The trailer is pretty damn good. The thing is, I really don't want to see the movie, not because of Tom Cruise or the subject matter, but because I know the ending is such a bloody downer (literally).

The Venn diagram of actor and movie star is mutually inclusive. I've proved you are wrong mathematically QED.

This has no interest for me.
I know how the story ends, Tom Cruise isn't German, and this FICTIONAL dramatization occured over 70 years ago!

Why Hollywood expects lots of people to buy tickets to see what is essentially a History Channel DocuDrama is beyond me.

But hey, I guess it's better than Gigli II...

Right.

I love people who get so interested in things they claim to have no interest in.

The second is more powerful. I know the historical story so it made me sort of sick to my stomach. Hitler had films made of the executions and watched them for his entertainment. A cold chill. I ask you this... When Bush and Cheney are on trial for war crimes, what will you tell your children you did to stop them?

Unfortunately, Bush and Cheney will never be tried so long as the United States essentially controls the definition of what constitutes a war crime. In Nuremberg a war crime was litterally anything the Nazis did that the United States didn't engage in as well (which is why no one took the fall for lives lost in the aerial bombing of Britain). The US still dominates the world to an incredible degree, and its owners are very protective of those who tend to their interests. Which means no American is getting tried for war crimes anytime soon.

You'll get more out of life by being swindled by a global scam, i.e. Scientology? How does that help? Save yourself tens of thousands of dollars. Hubbard was a hack who created a money making cult.

The new trailer has been cut down to be more effective. It's edits are quicker and the overall tone has more energy, and the title sequences are bolder. The movie looks better than I was imagining. This has Tom Cruise doing what he mostly does best. He's a serviceable actor surrounded by better actors that make him look good. Thaaaaaaaaaat's showbiz.

Cruise's problem on screen is that you're always aware he's acting. There's nothing natural in his method.

To make a film about Stauffenberg as some kind of hero is disgusting too. Sure, he planned to assassinate Hitler and tried to carry it out along with a bunch of other Germans but these guys wore the Nazi uniform and only tried getting rid of Hitler when they realized they were going to lose the war. They sieg heiled Hitler for years prior to the attempt on Hitler's life.

Even if your point about Stauffenberg is right, which is debatable (are we to vilify every soldier who served under Bush?), that makes him more of a hero. He would have had to recognize that he was wrong, which is hard to do, and risked is life and paid the ultimate price to do what was right. German hating is as despicable as Jew hating.

I agree with you that outing Hitler was driven by the fact the US and British allies would only accept unconditional surrender from Hitler, but did not trust Stalin especially Churchill. The plan was to kill Hitler, install a new government and try to negotiate surrender with the Western allies, whch would free up the western divisions to defend Germany’s eastern border, based on the argument that Germany must not be taken by the Communist. They are not wearing Nazi uniforms, but the standard Wermarth issue of the error. Party members wore so-called Nazi uniforms and the SS used the ominous deaths head insignia. The Waffen SS or armed SS, also wore Wermarth gray, with a camouflage battle dress as well as the deaths head insignia. There was much tension between the Wermarth and the Waffen SS, who did not fall in the regular army chain of command, but took their orders from Himmler. Hitler did not trust Wermarth officers since many of them descended from Prussian royalty and many were not party members.

Thank you! That needed to be said. Also- any who thinks tom cruise is a good actor really needs to study the craft or go see more theater. Either that or just admit that you really don't get the entertainment thing at all- this isn't a bad thing and might just turn out to be a redeeming quality! The entertainment business sold its souls a very long time ago and none of those people are anyone's friend.

The new trailer is just different., Tom is in nearly every scene in the old one and new. He is not minimized in any way at all. No one alive could watch the two trailers and say, Tom's a star in the first one and just an extra in the second. He is not minimized in any way at all.

Perhaps it's time to just judge the movie and stop worrying about Tom's religion?

That's where I take issue with this. When the Brits make films about frenchman or Germans etc, their British accents are never criticized but American actors doing the same thing but with American accents are held to the fire. It just smacks of elitism. Of course Tony Curtis, when young playing an arab said "My faddah, da Caliph!" with a Bronx accent ... well, there was a time LOL
