VP Debate Prep: Michigan Governor Granholm Pretending To Be Sarah Palin For Joe Biden

The New York Times has an article on the preparations Senator Joe Biden is taking for his debate tomorrow night with Sarah Palin:

One danger for Mr. Biden on Thursday is that his habit of speaking authoritatively, of saying he possesses the truth, will come across as overbearing or condescending, particularly toward someone like Ms. Palin, who lacks his credentials. To try to guard against sounding sexist, he is sparring in practice sessions with Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm of Michigan, who is playing the role of Ms. Palin.

The only other time a woman has appeared on the debate stage as part of a major-party ticket was in 1984, when Geraldine A. Ferraro, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, faced Vice President George Bush. One exchange might offer Mr. Biden a good lesson.

okay, so maybe I just don't get it... Governor Palin is a woman yes, but she is rinning to be the freakin VICE PRESIDENT OF AMERICA ... if your qualified to be the Vice President, then supposedly your qualified to be the PRESIDENT! right? And yet we can't speak harshly or be "condescending" or speak like we would to any man running for the same office??? IF SHE CAN"T TAKE THE HEAT SHE SHOULD GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN ... is that being sexist?? I really don't think so. Think of Margaret Thatcher, she took no prisoners when talking and I'm sure would have been offended if someone treated her as any less of the leader she was. McCain can accuse Obama of wanting to teach explicit sex to kids, McCain can accuse Obama of wanting to raise everyones taxes .. of being a muslim terrorist in disguise and consorting with the devil ... but by god you better be nice to the little lady... give me a break

I don't know how Granholm could pretend to be Palin because Granholm is very intelligent, educated, thoughtful, and well-spoken. Biden should be rehearsing with Tina Fey, who isn't stupid, but sure can act the part.

I disagree with many who say that Biden should hold back. Sarah Palin will either define the McCain-Palin candidacy or take that trip into the sewage system. Since the candidacy is already in the toilet let Machine Gun Joe have the honor of flushing the toilet.

If Joe doesn't put her in the tank, then in the next presidential debate Oboma can win by just pissing off McDuffus. Many folks will be put off by a public demonstration of his hair trigger temper. Maybe he will take off his shoe and pound the podium.

I think he'll hit and hit hard, but he'll aim high, as in right over Palin's head to McCain. He'll be polite and respectful to her face, but he'll pummel the person at the top of her ticket. It is clear she doesn't know McCain's record, she doesn't understand the issues... she's coming to this thing will nasty little b!!chy one liners with the mental equivalent of knock knock jokes.

the problem Palin will have with this "joe 6 pack" stuff is, Joe Biden doesn't come across as your typical senator. He's commutes back in forth on a train and isn't the most......er., eloquent speaker. He is also one of the most poor senators. He, like her, has a son in Iraq (as of today, I think) and he has "blue collar" appeal. The difference really is, he is on the bottom of the ticket with a young "fresh" guy with policies remarkably different than the last 8 years. She, on the other hand, is on the bottom of the ticket with someone whose policies embody 90% of the last 8 years.

Oh and, Joe has foreign policy experience and all that stuff!

They should have hired Christina Applegate for practice. She could have replayed Kelly Bundy as a way of giving Biden an approximation of this debate with the moose-shooter.

Speaking of Christina Applegate, I like her, when she played 'the girl' in an episode where she was on a sports game show. They stuffed her with facts and when she got down to the last question, she heard another fact and that one pushed out the answer to the final question and she failed to answer correctly. That is what is going to happen with aPalin.

The only problem I see with Governor Granholm standing in for Sarah Palin is that she is about 60 gazillion times smarter than Gov. Palin, and an ex-prosecutor besides. She may have to dumb things down considerably in order to give a realistic portrayal of that clueless bobblehead...

My whole family is low income, we lived in a double wide up until I was a senior in High School. We did the rodeo every year, and raised our own livestock. We drank beer (yes, in High School) and rode dirt bikes. And I can tell you not one person in my family thinks she is anything like us. My Mother hates her guts, and you should hear the stuff my sisters throw out about her. It would make a sailor blush; they think she is the biggest fake since Milli Vanilli (not to date myself). All of us are 100% behind Obama.

For anyone who thinks Miss S.arah will come out with a great performance, remember, she will be speaking on subjects which, until late August, she never even thought of, let alone has any working knowledge of. She will be doing the speaking off-the-cuff--no teleprompter. She's proven she is very unskilled at impromptu speaking about topics of national importance. She couldn't even name a newspaper she reads, for cryin' out loud.
