I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Biden gets choked up when talking about the struggles of American families and the trials he himself went through when his wife and young daughter were killed in a car accident.

"The notion that somehow because I am a man I don't know how to raise two kids on my own," he says, "I know what its like to raise a child where you are not sure he's going to make it."

At one point he had to hold back tears, take a breath and compose himself.

On the CNN dials of undecided voters in Ohio, both men and women rated the moment as high as possible.

Watch:

Palin is a phoney full of canned information

Biden is a real person who actually knows and understands the issues

Phony may not be the right word as she was trying to say everything she can from the boot camp... and expanding what narrator was saying... If you listen to it for the second time... which I did... you can pick it up a lot more...

Biden was masterful on every level and showed real passion and emotion. Sarah Palin looked and sound like she was running for president of her senior class. And that voice! Arghh.

What scared me - Biden to carry Obama's policy in god forbid situation, but Palin has her own agenda... which we are not sure of...

Contrast with Palin, who didn't even answer the friggin' question.

Note that she ducked at least three by my count. Gwen Ifill didn't hold her to a one of them. Working the ref worked.

It was the most touching moment of the night. The only thing that has the capacity to cut through the insincere BS is authenticity. This moment with Joe Biden was a stark reflection to Palin's fake persona and her AW SHUCKS JOE attitude.

Obama and Biden represent an authentic move to change. With Palin (and McCain) I do not see a pitbull in lipstick..... just a whole lot of Bull.

The object of these debates is not for you to be "touched." It's for you to be "informed." All this talk about how Biden's tragedy makes him a better person and a better candidate completely misses the point.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:12 AM on 10/03/2008

It absolutely misses nothing. Not only did he show he IS knowledable but that he also is real and genuine. People like to feel that they can trust someone not just to lead but to have their best interests in mind and understand what the average person is going through. McSame/Palin basically drone on and on....and on but have no real compassion or depth of understanding on any issue related to the regular guy.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:23 AM on 10/03/2008

Though I agree with your desire for real info, you're wrong about the debates not existing to provide "touching" moments and only existing to inform.

The job of voters in a democratic system is to inform themselves, individually, learning all they can about the issues that matter to them and the process as a whole before they cast their votes. Yes, the debates are an opportunity for candidates to inform voters of their positions, but campaign's are for that purpose in general. Debates are for digging up nuggets of truth about a candidate when they respond to something, sure, but campaigns do that in general.

Debates exist to provide the electorate with a production of clashing personalities, conflicting viewpoints represented by active disagreement by the debaters involved; in short, the debates are a mental-crossed-with-emotional spectacle that serves to forward the decision making processes of the voters. If you want straight information and colorless responses, read a position paper.

Odoreida ~ Biden did both.

He showed us he's human, passionate caring side AND his far superior knowledge of foreign and domestic policy affairs as well as his skill at being a great Repub-talking points debunker.

Palin did well merely because the bar was set so low for her that if she didn't fall on her face and didn't get that "moose-in-the-headlights-stare, she would pass.

However, she was anything *but* informative.

In addition to getting the name of the U.S. General in Afghanistan and the military strategy in that country WRONG, she tried and failed to spin McCain's record as a deregulator. Her repub spin didn't last a millisecond as Biden deflated them immediately, thus, Palin lost big time last night.

GObama/Biden '08/'12!

Odoreida, if the object of these debates was for me to be informed, they would include a fact checker for the malodorous BS that gets tossed during them. The format itself does not honor "Information".

Having said that.... I quite agree that my being touched by this moment does not make him a better candidate for vice president. His record does. His knowledge does. His action does. And his consistency in stating and living up to his values do.

My point was that Palin puts on and takes off a fake persona. Authenticity is the one thing that will show that up, and Biden provided that while Palin provided misinformation and the script she was given to say. All in her cutesy, folksy manner that is as face as a three sided dime.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:45 AM on 10/03/2008

No it doesnt

It shows that he understand my struggle and is not just saying it just because, but he really does

If folks voted on issues and being nformed, then McCain/Palin would not have gotten this far.

I'm not saying he doesn't miss his first wife and daughter, but he's not truthful. The person he keeps blaming for his wife's death, is not to blame. His wife was to blame. There was alcohol revealed to be in her blood, after tests were taken; not in the drivers. He needs to state the facts clearly and CORRECTLY (although this time I see he kept his mouth shut about blaming anyone. Could it be because a lawsuit is pending?)

Just because Sarah totes her children around with her doesn't make her a bad mother. If I were out there on the campaign trail, I would want MY children, MY family, with me. Who is to say that the baby wasn't sleeping during that boring debate? I agree that I do not like the young girl carting the baby around; why not the older girl? The girl toting him around was barely bigger than the baby.

The girls can get homework assignments ahead of time. Did you think maybe that's what they did? If Sarah's dad is traveling with them, as he was last night, did you think that maybe he is helping tutor them? HMMM, gives ya another perspective, eh?

What was the point of your post? Was it to say because his wife and child died and alcohol was involved he can't display emotion? Would that also mean that the wife of a man who committed suicide can't grieve? or truly miss him, even though he took his own life.

Sarah does not tote her kids around with her, they are bought in for special events. It was a very special night for her and I saw other small children there, so I don't see a problem with then seeing their mother debate.

eh? (been to Canada much)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:18 AM on 10/03/2008

Just goes to show how dumb some people can be. Those kids deserve to be in a stable environment, not jet setting around the country. They should be home grandma or auntie going to school everyday. The baby shouldn't even be out at that time of night, let alone at the debate. She is a horrible mother for parading those children around like a bunch of props! I am a mother and it absolutely disgusts me!

Well she has been a terrible parent and it shows.

One kid sent to Iraq because of discipline issues and one daughter "with child" out of wedlock. And not only that, she's a terrible candidate for VP. That's bad in any century!

I am a working mother and I completely support a woman's right to work or stay home but she is treating her children like props. Did you see Obama's kids at the debate? No because I am sure he had the sense to keep them home and out of the spotlight where they belong.

I have a brother with disabilities. So I go ape-sh*t when Palin talks about her special needs son -- because she CUT, yes CUT, the special ed budget in her state. Yes, there is a god.

According to factcheck:

"Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she increased funding and signed a bill that will triple per-pupil funding over three years for special needs students with high-cost requirements."

So kindly stop repeating this malicious crap.

Sarah Palin signed a budget to increase the funding for special needs students from 27K a year to 77K a year from 2008 thru 2011 - is that what you call a CUT?

It is commonly accepted that Libs have the priviledge to spin the truth, but in this case you're clearly misusing this priviledge.

His wife's death and fatality for his children then having to raise them, is still fresh. I loved how he said he's totally invested in HIS home (1) and that he's better off financially today.

If Sarah's children are in public school, why are they always with her? Doesn't their district have so many missed days before repeating a grade? They're with her because Sarah is a careerist and she doesn't want the same unsupervised home that Track and Bristol had, for her younger children.

Nah. It's because they're useful as stage props.

I love Joe Biden. He's real. I don't care how much he talks.

What really ticked me off was Sarah Palin's callous reply to Joe getting choked up. She went back to talking about taxes as if to say, "Whatever."

Senator Biden didn't spend 24/7 at home with his kids. He commuted to Washington daily. The kids were probably in bed on most nights when he got home.

You can't fake the kind of true emotion Joe showed tonight. It wasn't a sign of weakness, it was a sign of strength and hummanity. In a world filled with corrupt politicos, greedy monsters, people who fogot what this field is all about, Biden made us remember, its about family, and taking care of family. Listening to him speak about knowing the hardships single parents face, made me realize, we have 2 excellent men running for office, who will put us first, who put thier families first, who know the hard times we all have faced. Biden never needs to appologize to us for loving his family, his loss, standing by his kids in thier worst possible moments. He did what a real man should do. he set the bar high, for others. His speech showed compassion, strength, total understanding for the job at hand, and Palen missed her chance to show that same level of hummanity. It was a programmed, tight, fake presence we have come to expect from her. I admire Biden for the courage to speak passionately about his life, family, job. He is the man for office, Barack chose well. Bravo.

Hillary Clinton got choked up about her campaign. I don't doubt that she felt strongly at the time in NH, but it's not the same since she got choked up about her professional life.
