Washington Post:

Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden will speak Friday in Dover, Del., at the deployment ceremony for his 39-year-old son Beau, who is headed to Iraq as part of a unit of soldiers from the Delaware National Guard.

Biden aides said that the event was not political and that he was speaking as a father and senator. Beau Biden, who is Delaware's attorney general, is a member of the Army's Judge Advocate General Corps. In a press release, National Guard officials said he might serve as an army prosecutor. He will go to Fort Bliss, Tex., for training before heading to Iraq.

Beau, watch your back. Don't trust anyone. Lots of blackwater there posing as our guys. I am sure his father warned him of this as well. I pray for his speedy and safe return as I do for all the troops. God forbid, anything should happen, know Biden won't just let it go, will fight and demand answers and get to the truth. Something the Bush administration refused to do. Beau, be safe, and come home safely to your dad, he needs you. Peace.

Beau is a brilliant and talented legal mind. There is so much good he can do to help the troops and all of America with the transition to the Obama/Biden Administration

Be Safe, Beau!

All the best to Beau. I think of Joe and what he walked Beau through all those years ago - the difference was he could stand by his son's side and help him. Now Beau's off - like so many young men and women - and Joe has to stay here. He can't accompany his son through this particular danger. That must be so hard.

It must take every bit of bravery a person can muster to watch their child go off to war that it takes for the child to march away. God walk with both of them. (And any parent/child out there going through the same moment.)

I truly hope Beau comes home safe and sound. His testament to his father's character at the DNC was one of the most poignant things I've ever seen. If any family deserves protection, it is the Bidens.

Where are all the tirades about this being a political stunt that were posted on here when Palin did this. Oh, wait...that's totally different. LOL!!!!!!!! You guys crack me up!

Pup, I may strongly disagree with Palin on the Repub ticket. However, my heart goes out to Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden for sending their sons off to Iraq.

I feel for every parent whose child is sent to war. It must be hard to focus on any job praying and orrying over their loved ones.

Not everyone here is against her on this issue. I'm sure it was hard for her to speak at her son's ceremony.

May God keep them all safe and send them home to us all.

There is a little bit of a different story behind Palin's wayward son and you know it.

I hope they both sons come home safely - the 20 yr old and the 39 yr old.

Biden's wasn't a stunt. He was a member of the guards and they called him up. He and his dad didn't try to buy his way out of it, they bit thier lips and he went. Palen sent her son as the kid wasn't behaving and she thought it would do him good. Yeah Sarah, when he gets his legs or arms blown off, its an act of god right? That woman disgusts me. Biden proved his was no stunt tonight. You saw the pain in his eyes, as he spoke of family, his personal loss and time spent caring for his kids. You can't fake that. I applaud the Biden family for showing so much courage, grace and honor . Biden could have pulled strings to keep his son here, alive, he didn't choose to abuse his office or sacrifice of the troops who died or those who fight now. Biden is a great guy, would make a kick ass president and a hell of a father and husband. A stunt? I think not.

Beau Biden, as Attorney General of Delawarerm could easily have gotten a deferment. His going to Iraq in whatever posiition as a soldier shows me a lot. Honor! Something our current President lacks in spades! Something Joe Biden has always had!

Amen.
Maybe he'll throw the book at Blackwater, Halliburton, KBR, et al while he's there.

This is a great read about the Real John McCain. It's a little long but actually worth the time.

My prayers for the safe return of Beau as well as all of our service people. And my thanks for their sacrifice in service of our country. I hope that we can prove ourselves worthy of them.
I am passing this on from another post. It will make you even more proud of this country.
Andrew Sullivan writes and posts this amazing video. Please watch: A pretty amazing speech by the AFL-CIO's Richard Trumka. To see a white union man take on racism this way is very moving.
Something truly profound could be happening in this election. This could be the most important speech of this election year.

beau,
thank you for your selfless service to our country... for our part, we're going to work as hard as we can to make sure your father becomes vice president, so you can come home soon!

Godspeed.
