What if the machine gave you are receipt with an id number and votes on it, and then the results of the election were posted on the web, so that you could look up your id number and verify your vote in the final count.

What if there are a lot of people who are too poor to own a computer or not computer literate to check? A paper ballot and hand counting is still the best way!

A show of hands might work but for the Rethuglican method of counting them. Last night on Countdown, during the Worst Persons in the World segment, Keith featured a Faux Noise reporter named Brian Wilson, conducting a hands-up count among folks in a Scranton, PA restaurant: "All those for McCain raise your hands." (One guy halfheartedly raises his hand, but his wife pushes it back down.) "All those for Obama raise your hands." (All visible hands go up, including that guy and his wife.) "Reporter" says, "It's a tie."
Don't trust the Rethugs with ANYthing. VOTE in numbers strong enough to deny them the opportunity to steal this election!

Yes, darthdarcy, Diebold is now actually PREMIER ELECTIONS SYSTEMS. It is the same flawed system that stole the elction in 2000, and the same flawed system that will, if NOTHING IS DONE, steal the 2008 election.
If the public demands that the system be fixed now, having not agitated enough to get it done in the last eight years, they will be ignored.
The best and only thing that can be done is a groundswell movement to have a paper-trail on any and all voting machines, OR to DEMAND paper ballots in leiu of using the flawed electronic voting machines.
Just trusting the BUSH Administration, who gained power because nobody objected to their rise will not do. George W Bush would not be President now had the people risen up and DEMANDED a full, monitored re-count in 2000, as they were entitled.
