Manuel Uribe, World's Heaviest Man, Is Getting Married

MONTERREY, Mexico — The world's most obese man is getting hitched. Manuel Uribe says he will wed longtime girlfriend Claudia Solis on Oct. 26 in Monterrey, Mexico. The two will be married in a civil ceremony at a location still to be decided.

Uribe is unable to walk, and leaving his house means being towed through the streets on his specially made bed.

This year the Guinness Book of World Records declared Uribe, who tipped the scales at 1,230 pounds in 2006, the world's heaviest man.

The 43-year-old has shed about 550 pounds since with the help of Solis. The two met four years ago.

Uribe said Wednesday he will have a bite of wedding cake for photos, but won't eat any more because his diet prohibits it.

He's not worth a few million. The only "benefit" he's gotten for being the size he is is some media coverage, and doctors/health gurus willing to help him lose weight for free. But he has no endorsements, nothing.

He lives in a single room that faces and opens out to a poor, dusty street. The room has another room attached to it, and a kitchen. He lives in one of the poorest countries in the world. He has a job selling T-shirts from his room.

It's actual true love at work here, despite what the cynics like you think.

There will always be a woman somewhere for a man, no matter how fat, handicaped, disfigured, burned, etc because it is in their nature. I did not think it was the case with men before but I was proved wrong, it seems the same rule applies. Did you ever see the video of the fat woman running on a treadmill?

Gawd, it's disgusting that people allow themselves to get that fat. I don't care how "sweet" you are, it is a drain on society to be that damn lazy. I look around me (I live in GA), and I see mostly morbidly obese people. (I'm not talking 20 or 30 or even 50 pounds overweight, I'm talking morbidly obese.) For crying out loud, get up and MOVE, and stop eating so much! We are in a health crisis in this country, but no one is talking about that. Kids today are getting diseases that only old people should get, or they getting rare diseases and disorders, because all they do is sit in front of a computer screen, TV or game system, and all they eat is manufactured crap. There are KIDS out there now that weight over 200 pounds. There is something seriously WRONG with this picture. And all you can say is nice things about it?

OK. Lets see...the man has lost over 500lb??? What is wrong with you??????? I would give him a LOT of credit for losing as much as he has, rather then ridicule him for how large he may still be!!!!! I am a average size person, 140lb, 5'9 or so. Not fat by normal standards. However by the magazines standards I am completely overweight. I agree with you, we as a society have become fat and lazy. No two ways about that. But throwing pictures of Lindsay Lohan at 90lb at me, or showing me pics of the Olsen Twins at a combined 110 lb. together, that will not motivate me and I am sure its not going to motivate any one else!!!!!

Bottom line, don't put the man down, give him the credit he deserves!!! Good luck to him and his family and I sincerely hope he makes his goal and has a happy life!!!!!!!

Wow. I saw a documentary on this man and the woman, and her entire family turned against her when she fell in love with him. However, he really is a sweet-heart, a good-hearted man, and she really loves him. She takes care of him, which in his case is a lot of work. Cuts his hair, massages (which are medically necessary to help blood flow), etcetera.

Most of all, she's really one of the major helps in his losing weight... his family loves him I'm sure, but kept feeding him long after they should've been looking to get him some help. But after losing over 500lbs, it is obvious that Solis is really good for him.
