Sexist

Going into tonight's vice presidential debate, the chief concern among Democrats was that Sen. Joe Biden, whether accidentally or not, would somehow deliver a line against Sarah Palin that was deemed sexist.

Could John McCain just have beaten him to the punch?

At a town hall meeting in Denver late Thursday night, McCain addressed the predominantly female crowd (it was a women's town hall) with what was meant to be a comedic aside.

"My friends, I've had hundreds of town hall meetings around this country for many, many years and I've got to say, thanks to you and to you and to you this is one of the more impactful and emotional town hall meetings I've ever had. Maybe it's because it's a women's town hall."

Certainly, with the sensitivities surrounding race and gender in this campaign, off-the-cuff remarks like this have the potential to blow up. The McCain campaign will likely portray the comment as a joke, or perhaps even complimentary. But many women will undoubtedly see it as sexist and/or patronizing.

With a crack like that, is is one event where McCain needed to find the exit this time.

I guess it really depends on who said it...right?

Its shameful that the MSM doesn't report the news fairly. This was clearly sexist.

But JM will get a pass like he does on so many things......

And please note that every woman in there that laughed at that very sexist remark are the same women who protested against the Obama 'lipstick on a pig' comment made regarding JM's policies...not his running mate.

This is just shameful and the state of America.

If Obama had said this, it would be 24/7 news coverage. The McCain campaign would run attack ads and the Hillary demoncrats would have a field day.

"Impactful?" Who uses that word other than Palin? It sounds like something one would say about a tooth.

Yeah, and what about his continued use of "oversighted" to talk about his committee work? Is that some kind of Washington-ism? What's wrong with oversaw? Or in Palin's case, overseed.

When a person is promoting/selling something, he/she doesn't tell the potential customer; "Wow, you are reacting more favorably than almost all other sales presentations I have made in my career." That draws the attention away from the product and converts the audience into people who feel like they are being violated. McInane is trying to sell his Reblublican Blather to women and he should have catered to the nature of his audience transparently and with the pow(d)er of his convictions but not talk about the tactics.
The poor bozo really thinks he has been offered up as a candidate, when he is some kind of trojan horse, ahead of what?

Isn't this the man who volunteered his wife for the Miss Buffalo Chip pageant?

You're right. That was right after he called her a c*nt in front of their friends.

As a male, I can't imagine ever using that most demeaning term with anyone, in any setting. I've never even heard my male friends use it. What a mean little poor excuse of a man.

WTF was the sudden, CHEER and delighted aplause about?! Those women lit up like Christmas trees when he said that sexist line.

I guess by then he had charmed the pants off them and they were in his pocket.

You question the "maverick" mystic?!

Even an insult from "the maverick" is a kiss of greatness.

Gas pumps don't ask what your political affiliation is, nor do you get discounts on your light bill for being a Republican. We need people with substance to get this country back on track, someone with a plan. We expect more from our children, so why would we not expect more from someone who is competing for the 2nd highest position to lead the nation??

I wouldn't care if Mrs. Palin showed up naked to the debate, she was no "winner" last night. On January 20, 2009, the maverick, the baracuda, and the cowboy need to be watching Barack Obama and Joe Biden at the inauguration on television, just like the rest of us. We can excuse the cowboy to go home early because he's finished...

Maybe we can sip some beers together...WTF??!!

Oh, yeah... Country First!

The Crimes of Chaney Bush and McCain
The major crime of Bush Chaney was the complete disregard for the lives of others and the complete irresponsible waste of tax payer money and future debt. The “conservative” party of G.W. Bush McCain aggressively wasted TONS of United States Dollars with wild abandon almost to the point where they enjoyed the destruction of money. Blackwater. For Bush McCain to ever speak of saving tax payer money again is laughable. Chaney used military secrecy to hide his illegal activities and theft from any oversight.
If McCain were to be come president he would run down Chaney's rabbit hole and take over the waste and killing and never be seen again.

And don't forget the biggest crime of all is to blow up 2 buildings in NYC and blame it on a creep in a cave 10,000 miles away.

God why doesn't somebody tell him to lose the "my friends?" Even Republicans roll their eyes at that.

It seems that McCain is not exactly a proponent of the rights of women (or for that matter, homosexuals, people without financial privilege, or (god forbid) military servicepeople. Therefore I'm not surprised he would eschew the reaction of any woman, and call it "emotional." After what I've read and learned ( for example, his not supporting the Violence against Women Act), and his use of foul language about his wife(es), jokes about women being raped (told in mixed company-look it up on youtube), etc., I'm unsurprised. What DOES surprise me, though, is that anyone other than misogynists, racists, homophobes, or anyone who is not a white man in his 60's or 70's of financial means and limited humility or grace supports his candidacy. Even his former compatriots from Vietnam have spoken against his candidacy- that's quite telling.
And let's not forget his father was an Admiral, and we all know how dangerous a man with a "daddy complex" is when in office- ahem, GW Bush.
