Palin

Sarah Palin is touting the Surge, and America is apparently not that interested, according to CNN's reaction meter of Ohio uncommitted voters. Dial Line stays flat, flat, flat. Biden touts Obama's plan, the dial line shoots up. Especially at the idea of Iraqis taking responsibility. Women especially like the idea of the Iraqis spending their own money. Timetables get tepid support. Palin's accusation that Obama and Biden are waving the "white flag of surrender" sends the line plummeting.

The only persons I ever hear mention the word SURRENDER are republicans, mostly mccain & palin
and many of their clueless core.
They say that word.
I have not neard a Democart say it about Iraq.

Funny how they only say SURRENDER, we don't Funny. What does that mean or say about them?

Wasn't MAVERICK a con man...??
Funny about that too.

Or you can take the official first definition from the American Heritage Dictionary which states: "An unbranded range animal, especially a calf that has become separated from its mother, traditionally considered the property of the first person who brands it."

But I'm not sure that it applies any longer - she appears to have been "branded".

I had to laugh when she called them "a team of mavericks".
It's a pack of loners.

The original maverick was Samuel Maverick, a famously independent-minded Texas lawyer, cattle baron, and politician who would not brand his cattle. Maverick's great grandson, Maury Maverick, Jr., was the Texas representative who opposed the persecution of Communists under the McCarthy era, living up to his Maverick name.

Incidentally, Maverick's daughter, Fontaine Maverick said recently that the Mavericks are appalled that McCain "is giving away good governance to curry favor with the religious right."

Am I the only one who was driven crazy by Palin's excessive repetition of the word "also"? She uses it the way some speakers use "um" or "you know." I downloaded the entire transcript of the debate and counted the number of times she said "also." It was 46 times in a 90 minute debate -- that's more than once every two minutes.

She said "maverick" only 10 times, but at one point she used it four times in the same "sentence." (I hesitate to call any of her remarks an actual sentence, because she tends to ramble in a stream-of-consciousness manner, joining her disconnected thoughts with "also.")

Style is no substitute for substance, but I want my leaders to have both the wisdom to make the right decisions and the ability to effectively communicate. Is that too much to ask?

You BETCHA she's qualified to be VP. If she is so BLESSED by JOE SIX PACK and HOCKEY MOM's to allow her to serve this great country of ours. She's a MAVERICK and won't wave the WHITE FLAG of surrender (wink). The people on Main Street are HUNGRY for change as well as Alaska's OIL. Do you know she took on the GOOD OLE BOYS in Washington? DRILL BAY DRILL.

Palin shows she has nothing to offer. Same old Reagen mantra. Since she could not be bright, she offered up folksy-cute cliches the entire evening. And by the way, having a teacher relative in the family does not qualify one for VP (or President) and dealing with foreign leaders and rivals is not a kitchen table skill. The "white flag" unpatriotic slap follows exactly Hermann Goering's rationale that [to get the public to do your bidding] "... tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

I have no respect for someone who will
leave our kids to die indefinitely. As Palin states
"for as long as necessary". This is stupid foreign policy
or lack thereof, after 7 years of being there.

Palin does not worry about sending our men and women to be killed. She has no compassion, as you can tell by the type of mother she is. Dragging that poor DS baby around at 11pm. She won't even win "mother of the year"

She is a disgrace, no intelligent thinking American woman would vote for her.

I worked evenings when my son was a baby. He stayed up until midnight when I got home. Then we went to bed at the same time. It gave me more sleep (which a single mom needs). I am getting so tired of the nit picking about her ability as a mother. It really is getting old.

John can't figure out if we won or lost in Afghanistan or Iraq.

"Mission accomplished." vs. "We must win in Iraq"

"It will be a quick and easy war paid for by Iraqi oil." vs "We have to decide based on conditions on the ground, even if it takes 100 years for conditions to improve."

He even concludes that the surge has worked despite reports of insurgency in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He's clueless!

I noticed that in the McCain-Obama debate as well, and was as surprised as I was gratified. Very few are buying the "victory in Iraq" line. I don't know whether it's fatigue, or whether it's people understanding that this is not a "war," it's an occupation - and the only way to "win" an occupation is to leave.

Excellent. The first gigantic blunder was in responding to 9/11 as a "war" in the first place. It was a huge criminal act and the organizers should have been individually hunted down by the combined forces of the world's security agencies. Armies and air forces were way out of place. And then of course the invasion of Iraq - which had no connection to 9/11 at all, in spite of Bush's repeated sneaky hints and suggestions - was even further off target.

Can you even IMAGINE what the right wing would have done, had Michelle, the SPOUSE of a presidential candidate, given a "shout out" to her "peeps"?

How acceptable would this language, demeanor and these qualifications have been if Sarah LOOKED like Michelle? You know -- tall? They'd tar and feather her, I bet'cha.

Women should be insulted by her presence on the ticket. She is totally unqualified and is an unabashed air head. Mac and Cheese picked her solely because she is a woman and he dunderheadedly thought he could scoop up the Hillary vote. Both are pathetic.

After this election what next for Palin. My thoughts are republicans are going to drop her like a hot rock.

First she doesn't have the sophistication to run against Clinton in 2012 or the Washington crowd. Dog gonit ... you betcha ... darn right ... these quaint phrases only get you looked at oddly in the crowd she would need to lead a ticket.

Secondly she can't go back to Alaska ... my guess is more than a few got more than a good look at her and won't think she represented them very well.

So what next ...

I agree. I think whole process was probably very shocking for the people of Alaska. She'll probably go on to be a political commentator on Fox. I don't mean that as a joke, either. And ... she'll have a little time to perfect her quaint phrases for intelligible comments (hopefully). She’s attractive and appealing to the lowest common denominator … the Fox News viewer. So she’ll make a fortune there. You betcha!

Palin's presence is less an embarrassment and more of an insult to our intelligence. Palin is the perfect GOP Barbie-puppet and most of the country sees right through the sham. Fortunately, she doesn't belong to my party, we have Hillary. The stark contrast of the shrill babbling Palin to the eloquent, articulate (and knowledgeable) Hillary won't soon be forgotten by many.

Her and McCain and Bush and their cronies bandying about this accusation of "Surrender" or "White flag of fetal position" that they keep stating has just Pi__ed me off to no end.

When the Republicans and their S__tHo_e Cronies call a Military Withdrawal out of IRaq Equivalent to a Surrender, they are Denegrating all the US military soldiers in history that has ever withdrawn from a position or retreated.

These are all honorable men and telling the troops if they are ordered out and likely to reinforce Afghanistan, they are surrendering??? cmON!!

My Uncle Fought for this country in the US Marine Corps 1st Division in Korea.
He was wounded twice, purple heart, field promoted twice, and fought his way with his men out of the CHosin Resevoir under Negative 30 Degree F temps with basic normal weather gear from WWII.
Outnumbered 11-1 (10,000 to 900 approx), they retreated under fire battling their way out of being surrounded.
My uncle helped save his platoon by showing them to warm a pair of socks inside their coats and change every half hour to keep frostbite from occuring. He carried a guy that fell asleep in the snow that couldnt go on until the man recovered enough.
And GOD D___ it if those Traitor Republicans deserve to accuse my HERO uncle of surrendering because they withdrew from a position.
F them!
The GOP is ANTI TROOPS, ANTI Constitution, ANIT American, and ANTI humanity.

I think it was at Chosin that Chesty Puller was quoted as saying "Retreating? Hell, no, we've advancing in a different direction!" which was accurate there. And it's accurate here. Iraq is not, repeat not, a war. There is no "victory." If it's to help instead of hurt, what we want is a friendly regime. All we've done, all we're doing by staying there, is propping up an Iranian puppet regime. The one thing that unites Iraqis is their mutual desire that we leave. If, and only if we leave, with diplomacy, and with luck, we might yet have a friendly Iraqi regime that unites against Iran instead of against us.
