Palin

Sarah Palin is touting the Surge, and America is apparently not that interested, according to CNN's reaction meter of Ohio uncommitted voters. Dial Line stays flat, flat, flat. Biden touts Obama's plan, the dial line shoots up. Especially at the idea of Iraqis taking responsibility. Women especially like the idea of the Iraqis spending their own money. Timetables get tepid support. Palin's accusation that Obama and Biden are waving the "white flag of surrender" sends the line plummeting.

Question: Why is Joe Biden still running for the Senate?

So the Democratic Governor of Delaware gets to name a Democrat to fill his place in the Senate in 2010, of course. BTW: His Senatorial opponent is another feeble GOP also-ran with a uterus (and I can say this because I am woman).

Who will sit down on the other side of the table and sign the Articles of Surrender?
They have no Leader, they have no Army, they have no Country. We are shooting at an ever changing group of people. The words surrender and win will never apply to Iraq.

We can’t win and we can’t lose. All we can do is to shoot at them until we get tired of the killing or we run out of money.
When we come home, we will neither have won nor lost. We will only be poorer and the subject of World scorn. America has lost its center.

Surrender ? Explain that to me like I'm a four yr old. Don't you have to know a little bit about history to be a general ? For centuries, historians have been writing about certain cultures and tribes of people. Some nations haven't changed since forever. THEY LIKE IT THAT WAY. We couldn't win in Vietnam( our tough Marines up against 5' tall,100lb natives) and we won't win in Iraq. AND it took the Russians 10 yrs(also stupid) to realize they couldn't take Afganistan. If our generals knew a little history about the courage and bravery, that can only be born from centuries of struggle, that the Afgan fighters possess, they would know how arrogant and misguided this venture into Afganistan is going to be. Our 100yrs of military might will not conquer a 2000yr old civilization. But then, who am I to just want to live a peaceful life in the country I love? Let's just invade other countries, kill our brave young ones, who haven't even started to live, and murder million of innocents, who only want what I want.

I have a problem with GOP lies.
They look us in the eye and tell us something without blinking, then they wave the American flag and we the people fall in line.
Remember:
1. We have to send our sons and daughters to die looking for weapons of mass destruction. Hurry up pull out the flag and wave like hell!
2. Sedam Hussein was responsible for 9-11. Hurry up pull out the flag and wave like hell!
3. Iraqi oil will pay for the war. Hurry up pull out the flag and wave like hell!
4. Our economy is basically strong. Hurry up pull out the flag and wave like hell!
5. John McCain campaign statement that he is not able to use a computer because of his suffering as a prisoner of war.
a. July 13, 2008 New York Times interview john McCain said: “I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need.”

b. On Rachel Ray John McCain whipped up a batch of ribs. What different muscles are used to barbecue ribs that you would have to use on a keyboard?

It is time to look in their eyes – not blink – and say “Stop lying to us?”

Why does John, who has millions, collect social security each month from a system he says is broken?

He claims to be in excellent health, up to the demands of being president, yet receives a tax-free "disability pension" because he is permanently disabled.

Ever since McCain used that line -- "I know how to wins wars" -- my first reaction (and I continue to wonder about this) was, just how many wars has he won? To my knowledge, John McCain has not won any wars. Perhaps some day he will tell us. (Nah, surge does not count -- that war has not been won and like Vietnam is unwinable.)

Guess that means that since victory is elusive, he doesn't really know how to win it, eh, Einstein? Maybe the campaign should get a smarter spokesperson.

Ending your war efforts through transition is a changing of the guard, not a surrender. Furthermore, I don't think we will really know the impact of the surge until the coalition troop strength has been reduced to pre-surge levels. Has that been done yet?

I wanted her to crash and burn and go back to Alaska so we will never have to hear from her again. That didn't happen. Her performance (and it was a performance, sorta like a stand-up routine) was better than expected. But the real Sarah Palin cannot answer a question unless she has her answers prescripted and memorized.

No, she was better than Bush or McCain have ever been on delivery and staying on-message. Of course a lot of her answers made no sense and she frequently resorted to lies -- she's a Republican, after all.

My favorite Palin flub from last night:

"John McCain's maverick position that he's in, that's really prompt up to and indicated by the supporters that he has. (???!) Look at Lieberman, and Giuliani, and Romney, and Lingle, (???!) and all of us who come from such a diverse background of -- of policy and of partisanship, all coming together at this time, recognizing that HE IS THE MAN THAT WE NEED TO LEAVE -- lead..."

Really... it felt like Biden was debating the uncharming female version of Yogi Berra.

Palin often speaks of lowering taxes, and routinely brings up her tax reductions and fiscal successes in Alaska. Last night she mentioned eliminating property taxes and inventory taxes as the mayor. Property taxes tend to be the source of funding for municipalities, so I assume she is able to run her town and State with a significant amount of help from oil revenues. I am surprised that no one has contrasted the job of running a town or state with oil revenue, with running the country in the absence of a revenue stream derived from oil (or some other passive source). It is like an individual giving themselves a pat on the back for their financial success as a trust funder.

She also failed to mention and Biden failed to call her out on the fact that she left her hometown with 20 million in debt.

Right. $20M debt for a sports facility that was built on land to which the city had no clear title.

I also seem to remember (tho I don't have a cite) that Palin raised sales taxes to make up for revenues lost on other tax cuts. Does anyone have a link for this?

what palin got wrong is that the flag of surrender contemplated by the dems would under no circumstances be white. even eggshell or taupe would meet resistance. but the real big picture missed by the republicans is the ju-jitsu move. from day one, republicans should have accused democrats of their own, secret, policy to stay in iraq for decades- if not forever- while holding as much anti-war support as they could. because that's the truth. both parties are parties of permanent war and enslavement through taxation.

Enough is enough Palin says when Bu$h, Inc. is looked at or looked "back" at ... really, reThugs are still blaming Bill Clinton .. actually for 2 reThug terms! They take no responsibility for what is sadly their own complete failures!!!

Prologue is key ... so says Biden!!!

Interesting point, if somewhat schizoid. The past is prologue. So, that means we have at least 4 years of either a Carter-esque or Clintion-esque admiinistration.
