William F. Buckley Left Illegitimate Grandson Out Of His Will: "I Intentionally Make No Provisions For Said Jonathan, Who...Shall Be Deemed To Have Predeceased Me"

Before he died, William F. Buckley Jr. put his young grandson on the firing line.

The intellectual conservative icon - renowned for his erudition and use of uncommon words - excluded his son's illegitimate child from his massive estate, insisting the kid was dead in his eyes.

"I intentionally make no provision herein for said Jonathan, who for all purposes . . . shall be deemed to have predeceased me," Buckley's will says, according to the Hartford Courant.

The National Review founder and notable New Yorker instead left his entire estate - estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars - to his only child, Christopher Buckley, and Christopher's two older kids, Caitlin and William.

Jonathan, now 8, is the product of an Christopher's affair with book publicist Irina Woelfle.

In 1989, Mr. Buckley cam to speak at my college. I was a journalism student, a Reagan democrat, and the campus newspaper's go-to for conservative op-ed pieces and columns. I wanted to grow up to be WFB, my own PBS polical show, a syndicated column, 3 mos. a year to write books, publish my own magazine...all of it seemed so ideal.

But then the ideology fell apart for me. You can only shovel BS for so long before you start to smell too. I re-registered as a democrat. Started reading more left-leaning writers, and while I abandoned Buckley's party, I always had a soft spot for him.

Until now.

It was his money to do with as he pleased. His method of distributing it and his choice of words indicates his true heart. Hopefully, Ms. Woelfle has the ability to instill values that include knowing his worth is based on heart and not someone else's bitter actions.

Money sure does have the ability to color life black. So many people use it as a threat and hold it above their children's heads. It's disgusting to watch them pull wires, try to make people dance. It is just as sickening to see adults dancing as fast as they can to keep up with the music. Can you people even hear the music?
