ABC News:

"I said my prayers this morning, like I do every morning, so that I can understand and feel better about the vote that I cast," said House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, as the House prepared to vote -- again -- for the emergency economic rescue bill.

Growing emotional, his eyes moist, Boehner paused.

"But even if we pass this bill today," he continued, "let's not kid ourselves. We're in the midst of a recession. It's going to be a rough ride, but it will be a whole lot rougher ride if we don't pass this bill. I will say to all of you, when this bill passes today, remember those words 'In God we trust,' because we're going to need his help."

Boehner's that guy who cries and thumps his Bible on cue. Who CARES what he says about anything? None of it could possibly be anything except a con. He invokes God and brings on the tears in every public interaction. I find him DISGUSTING. Why can't people see this manipulation? HOW did he get elected???

So over the years, Congress gave tax breaks to corporations who moved manufacturing jobs overseas, and now John Boehner is becoming aware that we are in a recession?

What did he think was going to happen?

He was praying that he wouldn't spill any of that Jack when he reached for his first drink of the morning. Those shakes in the morning before the first drink are just hell.

Ya think?

What gave it away? The 700,000 jobs lost. Falling home prices. Decreasing consumer confidence.

Boehner has as much intelligence as John McCain.

The fundamentals of the economy are strong. Great incite!!!

While the nation burned, Congress partied. This man has a guilt complex, because he among others did not do their job.

We're not in a recession, we are in the beginning stages of a Great Depression.

I have it from a credible source that the Fed may soon declare a banking holiday where US banks nationwide will be shut down; meaning you will not be able to access any of your money, checking or savings, as the banks scramble to shore up their failing assets.

People, this is serious. WaMu going under isn't something that happens during a recession, it's what happened during the last great depression. The US banking system is insolvent and illiquid. It's on the edge of collapse, and no accounting rule trickery or bailouts will stop it.

Actually we are on our way into a New Dark Age. So "recession" is an extreme understatement that a character like Bush could start using any day.

DEPRESSION!!!!!!!!!! DEPRESSION!!!!!!!!!!DEPRESSION!!!!!!!! DEPRESSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, THE TRUTH IS THE GREATEST ENEMY OF THE STATE." -- Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945

The great economic historian Paul Bairoch found a positive association between protectionism and faster economic growth. He also said free trade policies lead to DEPRESSIONS while protectionism leads to RECOVERIES.

I am afraid to say this, but are entering a period of global depression. There is simply no way to avoid it except to give up free trade; bringing back a self-sufficient productive economy (manufacturing) which will put the brakes on "labor arbitraging" (i.e., the profit a manufacturer will enjoy when it hires work in cheap labor markets offshore such as China). Right now, labor arbitraging is killing this nation.

We do need to return to some protectionism now, but we are in debt up to our necks to China, our trading partner. If we put tariffs on their exports they won't lend us money to run our government.
