Indiana Jones Five

LA Times:

Harrison Ford said Friday that momentum is building for a fifth movie in the "Indiana Jones" franchise and that George Lucas is already cooking up a suitable plot for a heroic senior citizen with a penchant for whips and fedoras.

"It's crazy but great," the 66-year-old Ford said. "George is in think mode right now."

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" grossed $318 million in the U.S. alone and $770 million worldwide and is expected to be powerhouse seller on DVD and Blu-Ray when it arrives in stores Oct. 14. It was a film that many people in Hollywood assumed would never be made considering the difficulty in finding the right time and the right script to reunite Ford, Lucas and franchise director Steven Spielberg after the 1989 hit "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

Now, though, the latest success and the fact that the franchise's old machinery was revived has Ford thinking a fifth movie is not only a viable idea, but an attractive one.

"Think Mode"? If the last five George Lucas movies were rolled up into a ball and converted into a vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin would be the result.

Neither of these men needs the money, and there is no artistic reason to make any more Indiana Jones movies. Please, for the sake of the movie-going audience, bury this franchise.

There was a time, a generation ago, when the work of these men represented what was fresh and exciting in movies. I wish they would try to remember the wonderment of that time in their lives, but not by bringing Indiana Jones back from the dead. I can't believe that they have both run out of ideas, and now all they can think of to do is try to recreate something that they did decades ago.

Paul Newman continually recreated himself on and off screen, successfully, throughout his career. Mr. Ford might try to do the same.

They've run out of relics (except, of course, for the star himself) to quest after. "Indiana Jones and George Washington's Wooden Dentures"?

I was a huge fan. No more. The last one ended terribly. Leave this movie in its crypt.

I agree. Like Star Wars, it's degenerated into a bunch of computer graphics.

One can push nostalgia just so far. I think IJ has reached it limit with no. IV.

The only good thing about IJ IV was seeing Karen Allen (Marion Ravenwood) on screen again. Though even her role was underwritten, much like the entire script, and the stunts were phoned in and CG'ed.

IJ I - Superior in all ways.
IJ II - Ok, less attention to detail and a 'prequel'?
IJ III - Better, chickened out on the ending - true fans know what I mean.
IJ IV - Some good ideas with lazy execution.
And if lazy is all you got then stop! Mr. and Mrs. Jones deserves better.

Hey George, how about this story idea?

Indiana Jones comes upon a plot by which Right Wing American Neo-Fascists, in business and military, intend on using a vast hoard of gold they discovered in the Philippines, that was plundered from the whole of WWII occupied Asia and SEA by the Imperial Japanese and hidden there in elaborately protected vaults, to fund the overthrowing of the United States government in order to establish a New World Order based on elitist, white supremacist messianic principles.

You could call it "Indiana Jones and the Broken Trust" .... sound farfetched?

You are cute FB. I still think we should open the ark in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'- open it up --- - and confront evil.

Well, he's obviously ditching "Star Wars" as he's buried that so deep, Jar Jar Binx would suffocate while digging the hole... wait, nobody liked Jar Jar... would you believe, Paddedme or whatever she's called?

Whatever gifts Lucas once possessed, they are long gone.

I'd rather see a sequel to "Ishtar."

LOL. I second that. It was readily apparent with the 1st of the new SW trilogy that Lucas had lost all ability to write a compelling screenplay. I've never been more disappointed in a film in my life. It was AWFUL. And the next two were barely acceptable as well.

I'll have my eyes put out before I see anything else made by that pathetic, talentless Lucas.

I say, Make the Movie. It is also too bad that there was such a long delay before making IV. Wasted time, could have made 5 more.
