Obama In Paris

While Sasha Baron Cohen tried to steal the show at designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's Spring 2009 presentation during Paris Fashion Week, he failed to outdo Castelbajac's graphic Obama dress. The short yellow and black shift, displaying a picture of Barack's upper body, complete with bright and fun fingerless "yes" and "no" gloves, rocked the runway.

Obama has proved a main fashion industry facet this week in Paris. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, of Rodarte, sent a knit dress down the Sonia Rykiel anniversary runway that had "OBAMA" plastered across the chest (see below). Stella McCartney, a native Brit, even distributed notes at her Paris show telling guests to vote for Barack Obama.

Tell us what you think: How has Barack Obama managed to hold the attention of the fashion industry even all the way in Paris? Also, will these outfits still be "in" this spring, long after the next president has been elected?

Granted this is not Urban Outfitters but the Urban Outfitters in Wicker Park in Chicago has Obama t-shirts, Republican Party t-shirts and Democratic Party t-shirts. (Sorry, McCain is too old and Palin's style peaked in 1994) The Republican Party shirts have been on clearance since August. They can't give that s**t away.

He has captured the imagination of many, as the world was long waiting for an American leader who has seen the future. Barack's talk of negotiation, alternative energy sources, taking care of the planet, and his total embrace of current 21st century communications technology has resonated well among the youth the world over, and may be the spark to ignite new converts to democracy, as well as those who so desperately want to believe in America again. His party bravely presented a woman and a minority male as its candidates, and that speaks volumes for the Democrats. The party has seen and embraced the future, while the GOP is just that: Grand and OLD.

Obama style! Just like Obama, a man with ideas and style**

McCain, old, frumpy, and out of touch. His ideas have dried up along with his prune juice!

Hey, I could def rock that 2 piece white knit. Even if it were in a deep red or royal blue. I think the yellow with the Obama pic would be great for teens.

As somebody who has sat through several of his shows, I can tell you that J.C. de Castelbajac is not "a fashion designer." He's a talentless old hack with a penchant for shapeless clothing and ugly colors.

The Rodarte knitset ain't bad, in a found-it-on-a-market-stall kinda way. But as the writer notes, it's going to look very dated in about six weeks.

As for telling people who to vote for, McCartney's daughter should keep her opinions to herself. She's English and therefore ineligible for anything except a privately held opinion. If she really wants to contribute, she should send cash or hold a fundraiser and invite her rich pals.

The stages of indoctrination..

1. Youth Chorus.

2. Truth Squad .

3. Youth Brigade.

4. Uniforms.

so if there are no 1,2, and 3 then there is no indoctrination even if there is a 4? Maybe it's just a fashion show and maybe people just like Obama? Maybe you support a losing campaign?

Tell me the last time and place that kids were indoctrinated, please. I am not upset at Obama for this, but for adults that are condoning this behavior. The fashion show- just dumb and insignificant, I agee. But that's the icing on the cake. I guess you haven't seen the frat kids marching in fatigues and chanting Obama's name. If this was all for McCain I would be just as upset, believe me.

If you think I'm some right-wing nut job, then take a look at Missouri Governor Matt Blunt's comments about Obama's "Truth Squad", at the governor's link below:

It takes a whole lot of blind faith and questionable ethics to be a McCain fan when you're openly advertising being "fed up with smears". I suppose it's only being fed up with one side of them.

It is not overkill. It's fun. fashion is fun, about fun enjoying life, or
else we would all wear sackcloth or togas. Lighten up - and this
wouldn't be happening if it wasn't positive. Can't afford the runway stuff?
Get a t shirt, just about anywhere !

This just confirms that Obama is a "brand" more than just a "candidate." Obama the brand stands for something that people want. In it's broadest possible definition, Obama the brand is about possibilities and being inspired to do that which one didn't think they could. So, the Obama brand is a self-improvement brand, a self-esteem brand. But through the improvement of one comes the improvement of many. So the second part of brand Obama is the idea that we're all connected. If you view Obama as a brand, then it's easy to compare him to Starbucks, which isn't really just a coffee company (it's a lifestyle or experience), or to Apple, which isn't just a computer company (it's a lifestyle or experience), and so on (these are just examples, not endorsements). These brands -- or rather, all successful brands -- say something about you. Voting for Obama, buying Starbucks, buying Apple, etc. ... these choices say something about the individual, and for the Obama brand that "something" is far beyond mere politics.

He is far more than a 'rockstar' (whatever this is) . I personally do not care about 'rockstars' or 'celebs' and switch off TV whenever they appear with their empty heads.

A great scientist, or an inventor, or a great writer, or a prominent economist, or a serious politician (not a marionette, but real one) - these are people that should be more talked about, listen to, more appear on talk shows etc.
